One of my least favorite songs on the album.
Would have much rather them gone with Ghost Town or Life of the Party or Sure Feels Right.

I'm on the front page of his website, and I don't see any conformation? Just some old tweets. I'm not trying to prove you wrong but all I got right now is a country station's website. Is there any other conformation? :)

I was really REALLY hoping for "Ghost Town".
That would have been an instant contender for best single of the year for me.

That video has been out for a good month. Not sure if that's enough confirmation. I really hope this isn't the 2nd Single. It's Winter. Lol.

It says that it's the 2nd single on that site.

The timing is not that off for a summer tune. It would be January before it's released and probably not very high in rotation until March when most schools start spring break and the beach starts entering peoples minds.

I don't know, "Ghost Town" has been getting quite a few spins, usually that doesn't happen unless it's a single.

From now on, when a new album is released, I'm going to go through it and pick out my absolute least favorite song. Odds are, it'll end up being a single.
This song is just...no. No, no, no.

I don't think this is definitely the second single yet. I'm not even sure RCA has released any official single decision. I sure hope Jake won't try another summer single out-of-season. That didn't work out well at all with DOG and I think that even though "Beachin'" would likely peak around May if it were released in January as the next single, Jake should try to go with something else for his next song, since his album contains such a better variety of material than two fairly typical summer singles would lead casual radio listeners to believe. Three "summer-ish" songs in a row isn't a good idea in my opinion and I don't know how enthusiastic radio would be after the disappointment of Jake's last summer single.
The site that posted the video obviously misunderstood the release of "Beachin'"'s video as a single confirmation. Jake released the video for "Ghost Town" as well. It was supposed to be some sort of video trilogy promotion to gain some more excitement around the album release. The lanuage used on the site is definitely inaccurate ("Jake Owen has released the second single from his upcoming Days of Gold album") so my guess would be that whoever posted this didn't catch wind of the video trilogy plan and just interpreted a video release as a single confirmation. Maybe we should close this thread until an official source confirms the next single?

Hopefully, this one will get Jake Owen back to the top. He should do a duet with Blake Shelton called Some Beachin'.

While I'd have gone w/1972 or something like that, this one will probably do pretty well.

Seems odd to wait until February on the adds date for this given the way Days of Gold under-performed then left in a hurry, but I guess January is pretty stacked, so on the other hand, I could see them wanting to avoid any possible overshadowing that may come from going up against bigger names on adds date.

That does seem really late. It doesn't really make sense to me, because now they have a brand new album out there with only a plummeting underperfoming single to promote it.

So far this entire era is underwhelming me. This song makes me cringe and will be an instant station-changer, and I didn't particularly love Days of Gold (I actually think it is much better performed by The Cadillac Three, which is saying a lot given how much I don't care for their music). There are only a handful of songs I really love on this album, so I haven't ponied up the money to buy it (being unemployed helps with that, ha). I would have much preferred Ghost Town. Meh.

I actually haven't even bothered to listen to it, and I ended up buying and really liking Barefoot Blue Jean Night. That's how much I've disliked "Days Of Gold"/lost interest in Jake.

The Feburary add date makes this a bit more justified, but it still should have been "Ghost Town". Then go with "Beachin" in the spring. I think it's a odd move for someone like Jake to wait two months for another single. But I think "Beachin" will do fairly well for him. Personally I find the verses really irritating. The chorus is fine and has a nice vibe and imagery to it, but those verses are too bothersome for my tastes. I will be waiting for "Ghost Town" to be released so I enjoy Jake again on the radio.

The verses remind me a lot of "Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins. I just heard this for the first time tonight, and I'm not impressed. There's nothing about this that sets it apart from every other faceless male country singer out there right now. I can't see the album selling well, with no single to promote it for its first two months of release, and then this being what finally gets released.

This probably won't peak until May or June. My guess is that "Ghost Town" will be the 3rd single, to complete the video 'trilogy'. Starts off with "Days Of Gold" in which the guy gets the girl, then they're just havin' a groovy ol' time on the beach in "Beachin'", but afterwards, she's gone, and he's left in a "Ghost Town"...everything reminds him of her and all the good times they had. I actually quite like this song, and I really loved "Days Of Gold". "Ghost Town" is my favorite of the 3, though. A lot of the other songs will probably have to grow on me. With this particular album, the single choices feel a little more obvious to me...after listening through once, I had both "Beachin'" and "Ghost Town" pegged as singles (and that was before I realized they'd already made a video trilogy consisting of those two + "Days Of Gold"), with "Drivin' All Night" the other 'big' choice.

I think I might be alone here, but I think the video trilogy idea was a bad one. First of all, it corners them to not change their original plans on "Beachin" being second and "Ghost Town" being third. I think it's evident that "Days Of Gold" did not go quite as planned. So they decided to wait till Feburary to have "Beachin" come out so it would coincide with the spring when it peaks. That's another reason this is not the best of strategies. We have to wait five more weeks for the add date, and two months after "Days Of Gold" peaked. I understand it's a pretty stacked January, but Jake I believe is a big enough artist now to not have that particular obstacle affect him. Plus the simple fact of having the "Beachin" video be out there for about three months before it's released and the "Ghost Town" video be out there for around 7 or 8 months before it hits radio. Maybe the novelty of these singles might wear off for the average listener because of the videos. If they wanted to do a trilogy, that's fine. But why would you put all of them out there at the same time?...Ok I think I know. It might be that the trilogy was so cool and unique they couldn't bear waiting that amount of time. I for one think patience would have been the best course of action here. "Beachin" will still go top ten at least cause it is a major label with a proven hit maker, but I think they aren't putting these singles in the best position to succeed.

^I agree with just about everything in your above post, but I think that it might be best to wait on "Beachin'" until we get closer to spring rather than throwing it out at the very beginning of the new year when it's still the beginning of winter. Jake Owen's last out-of-season summer song didn't work out well and so maybe they think a February release would seem more appropriate for a beach song. However, I also agree that the best course of action would be to release "Ghost Town" in January, but obviously the way the video trilogy was set up makes this not feasible.
I do think "Beachin'" will make it higher up the charts than DOG, but I'm really skeptical to say it will get Jake all the way back to #1. I guess it depends on how the sales numbers turn out.

I like the idea of "Beachin'" second and "Ghost Town" third. It took me a bit to warm up to it, but I like that idea. As for the videos, none of them exactly have a lot of views right now, because most people wait to hear a song on the radio before they go look up the video. Billy Currington released the "We Are Tonight" video very early as well--it was an exclusive release when the album came out. That was different since they pulled the video and only recently re-released it, but still somewhat similar.
I still think Jake is in a good position to have a big 2014. The album didn't open to the best numbers, but he'll be out on tour with Jason Aldean, and Jake has a good chance to score a couple of big hit singles next year.

Ironically this was the song that came on first when I turned on my Sirius/XM this morning when I got in my car...It was 16 degrees and 5 inches of snow . I still think it should have been "Ghost Town" second.

I'm already beyond tired of it.

That's pretty strange for radio stations to be jumping on this so quickly considering it's the beginning of winter, the song doesn't impact until February, and radio was less than enthusiastic about Jake's last summer song. I guess this will be a decent hit on the charts. It does seem less polarizing than "Days of Gold" and perhaps the chorus is a little more memorable. However, I personally would definitely prefer DOG over this summer-themed song.

churchchoir, this is totally normal for The Highway, since they're satellite. They currently have both Brad/Dierks "Outstanding in Our Field" and Hunter Hayes' "Light Me Up" in regular rotation, and do not seem to be playing the actual current singles from either artist. They jumped on Dierks' 5150 when "Home" was still climbing as well. Basically, they have the freedom to play whatever, so they do.

I've had about enough "Tippin Point" by Dallas Smith and "Raised On It" by Sam Hunt. Carriekins is right. The Highway is great in that there are no commercials, and you kinda get spoiled by it, but because of that they play songs like "Beachin" so much, that I end up getting sick of it before it is even officially released to terrestrial radio.
