New lead single from Little Big Town's sixth studio record is set to drop next Spring: "Little Big Town is getting to do some "Day Drinking" in 2014. That's the title of the lead single from their upcoming studio album, which they'll start recording next February or March.
LBT recently tweeted a photo of a recent writing session with the caption, "Once everyone gets #SOBER, lets all do a little #DAYDRINKING. Spring 2014." Though they're not giving too much away about "Day Drinking" just yet, the group's Karen Fairchild tells ABC News Radio they just couldn't keep their excitement about the song under wraps.
"We got back from writing, and, I don't know, we were just excited. We had written [the] song awhile ago," Karen says of the Twitter leak of "Day Drinking." "It's kind of, like, the cornerstone, to me, of building the record."Source: www.littlebigtown.com/story/news/ready-to-do-some-day-drinking-in-2014#.UqtSr_RDuSo

Interesting...especially if Parmalee releases "Day Drinkin'" as their next single.

So there's no hope in "Sober" doing anything else but Top 40? I guess we could call Karen Fairchild the defacto lead vocalist of Little Big Town now that Jimi's and Kimberly's lead vocals on their songs only makes Top 30 or Top 40 at least.

"Boondocks" was a co-lead by Jimmy and Karen (#9), and "Bring It On Home" was a Phillip lead (#4). Both of those mediabase peaks. But that was a while ago now. So maybe your right. But I believe "Sober" is not done yet. It sits at #35 on mediabase today with plently of room to grow. Now will Capitol continue to promote it hard, because they know they got a lead single waiting in the wings. We Shall see?

I'm not sure how much farther "Sober" is going to climb, but the way the announcement was made seems to indicate that they intend to keep pushing it for at least a few months yet. We can probably expect this new single in like March or April 2014 at the earliest, so I don't think "Sober" is done just yet.

Where did YSOTB peak? Sober deserved a lot more. :/ "Sober" is still climbing, albeit very slowly. It's #37 on Mediabase right now. Even the source article for the "Day Drinking" release says that it won't come out until the spring, so it's quite possible that "Sober" could hang around for a few weeks yet, maybe even 2-3 months.

They tweeted the following cryptic message earlier, perhaps alluding to the premiere of this song? I have been told the song is scheduled to be released digitally next week. Also, they tweeted three weeks ago that some "big announcement" was coming shortly.

That was an awesome teaser! Seems like it will be a type of song that will build off the success/familiarity of "Pontoon" and "Tornado". I loved the ship-wrecked pontoon with the boondocks sign on it, and the tornado approaching that house was cool. I wonder if the sound from 0:25 onward with all the whistling is a tiny little hint of what "Day Drinking" will sound like?

They lost all momentum by releasing YSOTB. That song was ok but totally an album track, not suited to be a single. Excited for this though as I love LBT!

Hate to say it, but I agree with this...to some extent. I do believe YSOTB was single-worthy, though, as it was one of my absolute favorites off of the album; I just think it was released too soon in the era. I personally would've switched "Sober" and YSOTB around during the cycle, but we may have gotten similar results by doing that, so who knows?

Such a shame that LBT lost momentum due to YSOB; it's my favorite single ever from them, hands-down. I thought for sure after the massive success of "Pontoon" they would FINALLY be in the clutches of radio for good. "Sober" may have done slightly better, but considering LBT's frustrating/odd past with chart success, anything could have happened.

Oh wow...thanks for posting the preview @DiegoMarcondes_!! This sounds really good and really cool! LBT definitely didn't disappoint me here! I can't wait to hear the full thing. I just love the production and the whistling in this one! :)

This song was exactly what I was expecting and I'm very happy about that. I'm not always a fan of whistling in songs but I think it works very well here and the vocals and production were great as always with LBT. Hopefully this will follow the success of "Pontoon" and "Tornado" and get them back to the top 10.

I'm not too crazy about it, but I'm hoping for its success. Little Big Town are among the most consistent bands around. I enjoy the whistles in this quite a bit. It reminds me of how several pop songs from a few years back incorporated the whistling ("The Lazy Song," "Moves Like Jagger," "I Wanna Go"). This song will probably grow on me in time; even a less than stellar LBT song is better than most of what's on the radio.

If someone have a link to get to listen to it, please share with me!
In Brazil I can't purchase the song yet.

I miss the good ol' days when Little Big Town was more about harmonies and less about production.

I miss the good ol' days when Little Big Town was more about harmonies and less about production. You mean the days when they could barely get a hit? Cause songs like "Little White Church" and "Boondocks" were very much production-based. Jay Joyce is an innovative producer (and musician, you can hear his guitar work all over Miranda's "Platinum"). He brings new interesting sounds to the band and every artist he works with (Though you had to dig deep with headphones to hear it on the stuff he did with Thomas Rhett)

This is so catchy, but it seems like their trying to recreate the success of "Pontoon" with this production, theme, and once again featuring Karen on lead vocals. "Boondocks," and "Little White Church" were LBT's biggest chart hits before "Pontoon," so I disagree they "couldn't get a hit"
They've had a few hits and a spotty relationship with radio.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't want to see LBT go down the " been there, done that" road. Their sound is so unique that I would hate to see them chase trends just for the sake of a hit.
Anyway, I'm predicting this will smash hard.

Catchy... I like.
I feel the production is a little over the top in the beginning with the marching band. I mean... wtf does a marching band have to do with "Day Drinkin"? Nothing. Ohh... there it again in the bridge/chorus thingy. Yikes.
Agreed about Joyce being awesome and super innovative... but he's approaching the point of just being weird to be weird. Production still has to serve the song. LBT sound great as always though.
this will be a hit.
