I love this. It's extremely catchy and that opening whistle tune is fantastic. This'll get them another hit on radio for sure. I can see this performing as well "Pontoon". I miss the good ol' days when Little Big Town was more about harmonies and less about production. ...you mean "Sober," the single right before this one? lol

I miss the good ol' days when Little Big Town was more about harmonies and less about production. "Kiss Goodbye" is still one of my favorites.

They definitely have a new 'sound' to them since they got Jay Joyce as their producer, but I think the new production sounds have only added to their overall sound, rather than taking away from it. "Sober" and "Your Side Of The Bed" both showcased their harmonies but I think 3 of my absolute favorites from the Tornado album-- "Leavin' In Your Eyes", "Can't Go Back", and "Night Owl"--all showcased their harmonies even better. Of course, CBG or NO wouldn't have stood a chance at radio, but I still think LIYE could've gone at least top 20. Anyway, "Day Drinking" sounds so cool to me and I don't think they had to sacrifice any of their talents or quality to make a catchy song. It's still really 'fresh' sounding and has just such a cool and unique vibe.

I'm loving this one a lot, though I'm not surprised since LBT is my favorite band in country music. The whistle is great -- kind of gives me pirate vibes -- and it definitely reminds me of the high strung production sound on "Pontoon" that helped make it stand out so much. "Day Drinking" sounds great imo and I'm expecting it to be a big hit for them; I'm predicting it'll perform on par with "Pontoon," though perhaps not quite *that* well. But definitely more along the lines of that one than the bulk of their other singles. This is so catchy, but it seems like their trying to recreate the success of "Pontoon" with this production, theme, and once again featuring Karen on lead vocals. Well, considering how well that did for them compared to how their singles had been faring before, I can't blame them. But as much this feels like another "Pontoon," it doesn't read like a blatant copy at all and it's a great song. I actually might wind up liking this one more than "Pontoon" because I'm digging the whistle on this. Stylistically, I wouldn't say this is any different than when Carrie released "Good Girl" as the lead from Blown Away and how though it's similar to her previous lead-off ("Cowboy Casanova"), it was a fresh track all the same (just as an example).

It's a fun and catchy song and a perfect single for the summer months. Love the verse and the arrangement in the chorus is really catchy. Their vocals sound great on this, as usual. I'm actually not that big of fan of the whistling, but I can handle it and it does go along with the light-hearted summery vibe the song has going on. I'm confident that this will smash for them, which I'm all for, because LBT is the best and they deserve all the success they can get. The more you listen to this, the more it grows on you and gets stuck in your head. Although I agree I think the idea was to create another "Pontoon", this song still has a fresh sound to it like others have said. It doesn't sound like everything else you hear on the radio and it still sounds unique to LBT's style. Which, by the way, I don't think has changed much overall. "Tornado", "Sober", and "Your Side of The Bed" are all VERY LBT sounding and the whole album Tornado is as well. I just think they're finding ways to keep their sound alive while recording songs that are more radio friendly and accessible to a wide audience, at least as far as their lead singles are concerned, and I think that's a smart thing to do. I want them to keep having the success they deserve; the more success they have, the more likely they'll be able to keep putting out new music and albums for their fans. And I certainly want LBT to continue putting out music for a long, long, LONG time to come!

Oh, I don't blame them for going this route, but I guess I wouldn't expect them to do something so similar to a previous single because they've always done their own thing. I've grown to really like them over the past several years, though, and this has "summer smash" written all over it. And I'm also sure this will grow on me upon a few more listens.

Clear Channel deal...once an hour at most CC stations yesterday. It was a bit more of a 'moderate' CC deal though as instead of 900+ spins and 7-8 million AI on Mediabase today, "Day Drinking" enters with 5.9 million and 621 spins. Basically the same CC deal that the new Brantley Gilbert song got. I wish they hadn't done it though...we'll see an ugly update a week from today, and this song won't move up much from week 1 to week 2. I'd rather see a strong, natural start than a bunch of once-an-hour spins. Anyway, thanks to the inflated first-day spins, this will probably debut on Billboard close to or higher than where "Sober" and "Your Side Of The Bed" peaked. Crazy how corporate radio works, right?

Wasn't aware of that. Your post is the first to mention Clear Channel in the thread. I thought I'd said it but I just checked and I actually mentioned it on the first page of the Jana Kramer - "Love" thread: LBT's song will probably go up ahead of Jana's so even if they both go for adds the same day that shouldn't work against either song. The 6AM release for "Day Drinking" has me worried it'll be a Clear Channel debut... A Tuesday delivery to radio is a bit odd (most songs go out on Mondays) and the early morning release had me thinking it would be a CC thing. We've seen some of the songs with CC deals get released on Mondays or Fridays too, but it was the early morning release that tipped me off, so to speak. Anyway, just looking at today's update, it's pretty obvious. Yesterday was its very first day at radio and it shows up on Mediabase ( here) at #46 already with 621 spins and 5.952 million in audience, all in one day? Most songs don't gain that much in a week, and here we have "Day Drinking" with a huge number on day 1. A brand new single from a big name like Kenny or Carrie or Jason (etc) might have big numbers like that after the first full week at radio, but never the first day at radio (unless of course their songs got the CC deal as well). Furthermore, if you actually login at AllAccess and check out the leaders report for DD ( here), there's an uncanny amount of stations that all played this exactly 13 times yesterday (and a few that played it even more). And all those stations are Clear Channel ones. I imagine that most stations probably started playing this right away during their morning shows (which would be right after the song was sent out to radio), and then played it at the top of each hour 'til about 7 or 8PM (that would be roughly 13 hours, equating to 13 spins). Other CC stations probably played it once an hour thru midnight, hence we have a few stations with higher numbers--18 spins at KASE in Austin, 17 at WNOE in New Orleans, 16 at KSSN Little Rock, etc...all Clear Channel stations.

I'll have to listen to the studio version and let myself get used to it a bit, but after last night's performance I'm pretty "meh" on this one. LBT can do better than this. There's nothing really new or innovative about this track, it just feels like Pontoon Part II, except not as good.

This is a fun song, with a massive hook, but it's not nearly as hip or clever as Pontoon. But honestly, no matter what they released, it would have a tough time living up to Pontoon.

Looking at jhomes87's predictions thread, I see where she accurately predicted Little Big Town to be ahead of Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood. Kudos!

Oh it will recover but man this took a bad hit today on Mediabase, I know this is probably not allowed but here goes nothing. All I will say is some songs should not get Clear Channel treatment and here is one for example. Down 13 spots after debuting 1 week ago.

I like this, but I don't love it. I was hoping to like it more than I do. I agree that the heavy production takes away from the song, rather than adds to it. I have no doubt that it'll be a big hit for them though. It'll take a big hit on Monday's chart, but should be able to recover nicely the following week.

Great melody and creative production. Loving it. The whistle hook is one of the catchiest things I've heard on country radio since Love Done Gone.

Love the video! Fit the song to a tee and was a well-executed effort. I really liked the opening scene with the traffic jam. It served as a nice twist, because the latter half of the video was more predictable.

I like this but I do think it's unfortunate that they are being pigeon-holed into a certain style thematically since that seems to be the only place they truly find success.
But even repetitive LBT is better than most everything else in life so I'm good.
