Alright, I will finally admit it... I LOVE this song! Sue me!
Chris' voice just immediately grabs me right off the bat. There is nothing generic about his voice whatsoever, it is just immediately recognizable and very pleasant. I honestly do not find this song boring whatsoever either. It is relatively simple, which is something that I seem to be loving more and more lately in songs like "Slow Me Down" and "Time Is Love" (which also happen to both be from artists whose voices immediately grab me). I also enjoy the sudden increase in instrumentation in the chorus. The volume change is not too sudden, but actually very tasteful in my opinion (of course maybe that is because my car stereo sucks, so it doesn't really blast music...haha). While it may not be as straight-up amazing as songs like "Tomorrow", it is definitely a good song, and I eagerly stop and listen every time I hear it.

While it may not be as straight-up amazing as songs like "Tomorrow", it is definitely a good song, and I eagerly stop and listen every time I hear it. You're right about his voice not generic. Don't think anyone will argue that. I just believe in order for his career to transition to a new level to match his skill set, he'll need to upgrade the song material. Not saying Chris is a bad song writer. After all, he's had a hand in some records that have performed very well like "Tomorrow" and "Gettin You Home." But, I wonder how he would do if he modeled the old George Strait approach to song selection by listening and choosing more from finished demos rather than collaborating with different groups or individuals. George had a very long and fruitful career recording the very best written country songs he could get his hands on which was not that hard to do when you're George Strait and you're willing as he did to place his total trust in the finished song. It's only in recent years after all the success he's had we've seen him take part in the writing process which he can afford to do when you're 60 and have had the run he's had. Chris Young should have no problem at this point of his career getting exposure to the very best real country material that wouldn't otherise see the light of day in the hands of other artists. When Vince Gill, who I consider one of the great country singers of my lifetime, gives a standing ovation following Young's ACM Honors tribute to George Jones last year, it only confirms in my mind the power of his talent. I'll be satisfied he's made it to the status he deserves when one of his singles is up for CMA or ACM "Song of the Year" and one of his projects is nominated for "Album of the Year." If that occurs, he'll win "Male Vocalist of the Year" which he should take home at some point in the future.

Chris is hands-down my male vocalist in Country music right now; his vocals on this are stellar.
I enjoy this one quite a bit, and hopefully it'll do well for Chris.

It's selling pretty good considering others, on the chart around it, aren't. Which proves -- to me at least -- that Ballads DO sell and do well when not by just the A-List top stars (Chris is still 2nd tier). Country should learn from Pop music's #1 song right now, John Legend's "All Of Me," that ballads from people who aren't top stars or more than 1 or two of them STILL are liked by fans.

I have a friend at WYRK and he said this song is one of the most requested they have had over the past few months. So even though I find this effort from Chris to be very average, most others are loving this one it seems. It is hard not to be a sucker for that excellent voice of his.

"Neon" tested great a couple years ago but radio didn't respond. Requests and solid digital sales have given this a boost where "Neon" single didn't have that. I think the video for this is among the best he's done as well. Looks like this has enough stream to rise to the top.

Nothing on the obvious websites or reports that I have seen. Just curious.

It says it is currently at #41, however, there is no sales info as they just track units sold via POS.

This song must be getting some major conversions this week. It gained more than 1 million yesterday and more than 1.2 million in today's update. :O
Chris finished last week at #16 on Billboard, and I think he can finish this week at #12...Eric, Keith, and Craig Morgan will all go recurrent, and Chris is on pace to pass The Band Perry...therefore, a +4 move.
Suffice it to say that this song is red hot right now. It's testing extremely well with listeners and it's selling very well also.

It is testing well with listeners because there is a connection to the lyric. I understand that the trend is to get engaged while he is singing this particular song at his shows. I have seen video proof of it. In addition, I have also heard that many people are using it as a wedding song. It is definitely resonating with the public. Glad to see these statistics.

This and Wake Up Loving You are two of my favorite songs on the radio right now along with I Got A Car and The South. I'm very glad to see this doing well and hope Chris can break out into an A level star. I just don't know if there is a song on this album that can do that for him.n

It's not the single I would have chosen, but as has been proven time and again, I'm not good at predicting hits. If he's got another hit on his hands -- and even better, didn't have to sell his soul to the "bro country" movement to do it -- then God bless the person who picked it!

Country Airplay *** No. 1 (2 weeks)*** "Play It Again" Luke Bryan Greatest Gainer No. 10 "Who I Am With You" Chris Young Debut No. 48 "Something Bad" Miranda Lambert Duet With Carrie Underwood Debut No. 56 "Cold One" Eric Church Debut No. 57 "Like A Cowboy" Randy Houser
Billboard chart highlights confirm that this one is top 10, right at #10, which we'll see when the chart comes out tomorrow evening. I knew Chris had a huge week but I was expecting Lady A's "Bartender" to be the Greatest Gainer, and Chris the no. 2 best gainer, so I was a bit surprised to see WIAWY on the chart highlights.
Moving up to #10 means that Chris re-passed Blake Shelton...who else can say they've done that recently? He's also jumped ahead of The Band Perry and Craig Campbell. A 16-10 move for Chris..! *whistles*

Unfortunately the two (Chris, Blake) red hot boring songs (in my own humble opinion) ruined his chances. At least for this week.

I was as guilty as a lot of people in the thread saying this wouldn't move the needle as much as "Goodbye" or "Lonely Eyes" (and I still believe these songs are better written than WIAWY), I'd heard this track enough times since September to know it was undervalued. The performance he gave before Christmas on Celine Dion's "Home for the Holidays" Special was a positive indicator. This is a case where the singer really brings this to life. Next superstar in this genre is Chris Young who has the rare gift to take an average to ok song and make it great. Think what he could do with the very best written material.

Watch this single take off over the next few weeks. My first thought when I first heard this it was pretty average and nothing different than what we've heard before from other artists. I have to say, this might be undervalued. It's wearing very well over time and I think is among the next to break through and when it does, it's going to blow up big. This track has some power and heft than most would have believed. What an extraordinary voice and delivery which elevates an average written song to great heights. This guy's vocal talent is unmatched in today's country music.

Sounds like Chris Young is getting ready to collect chart topper #6 in his career. If that happens, I will be able to move him to #96 from #120 on the list of those with the most #1s.

Very unfortunate circumstances regarding a reported cut hand with a kitchen knife while preparing something to eat late Thursday night and coming at a critical time when he had a spot on the big stage at LP Feld. Ouch! That might have hurt worse than the cut hand to have to cancel from that gig. Here's to a speedy recovery with the hand and to the disappointment of that lost and very special opportunity to showcase his talent and his music.

I guess it was a serious cut to that damaged some tendons. Very unfortunate time for that to happen to Chris and I've said it already but I wish him a speedy recovery.

This has really grown on me. At first I thought it was fairly non-descript. Saw him in concert last week and was really amazed how much the audience got into this song, whereas other chart toppers like The Man I Want To Be didn't muster a third of the enthusiasm. I think this could go all the way to the top.

I've been a big Chris Young fan, but his last two singles have been very disappointing. Aw Naw was annoying and Who I Am With You puts me to sleep. I'll take it over many other songs, but it ultimately does nothing for me. Despite that, I'm not surprised this is doing extremely well and I wish Chris all the success in the world. As long as I get my "Lonely Eyes" or "Goodbye" release next, I'll jump back on the Chris Young train.

I was amazed at the two Riser shows I went to - people REALLY love this song. I do think he connects better to it live than in the studio version.

I also don't see anything stopping this wonderful song from reaching the top five next month, and #1 sometime in August, since Billy, Joe & Brad are all 800+ spins behind him.
It's conceivable that he can pass Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert sometime next week, and if the spin losses for 'Play It Again' continue to accelerate as we'd normally expect to occur, Chris could pass him by the end of this week.

San Antonio stations are playing this in high rotation now (at least it seems so), and it sounds great. We need more songs like this on the radio in my opinion.

Too bad "Neon" couldn't get this hot at radio...#bitter. I was surprised "Neon" didn't do better at radio as this also drew great response during live performance and tested as well on callout as "Who I Am With You" is doing now. The only difference was "Neon" was third single as opposed to this one being the second release. But the fourth single "I Can Take it From There" went top-five so go figure.

'Neon' should have definitely been a top-five smash IMHO: definitely one that a ton of radio stations whiffed on.

I was certainly looking forward to seeing Chris on the big stage this year while I was in Nashville this past week. It was an unfortunate accident and the timing couldn't have been worse, so I agree with you. A lot of people were upset he had to bow out on his scheduled appearances. Most were sympathetic but some were downright vicious. I hope Chris heals upcompletly and can rally from this and return to the stage as soon as possible. Here is an update on his condition: www.tennessean.com/story/entertainment/music/2014/06/09/chris-young-hand/10259835/
