Outstanding album...can't go wrong with the next single (unless it's Y'ant To or Hee Haw)
"Smile On Mine" would be the logical choice, to me. Or "Hard To Be Cool".

I think "Hard to be Cool" would be the obvious choice for next single. It's extremely radio friendly and has the same charm that Joe Nichols has been known for. There are other good choices on the album though (Crickets would be a cool choice). I just feel "Hard to be Cool" would have the best shot of another #1.

I agree with sabre14 here...this song looks like a virtual lock to hit #1. It was the 2nd greatest gainer on Billboard this past week with a gain of over 4.1 million and an increase of 901 spins. Those are absolutely huge numbers and I just don't see anything keeping this from #1. Stranger things have happened, I suppose, but I'm already about 90% certain that this will hit #1. Jake Owen and Chris Young are next in line to hit #1, but Joe should hit #1 near the end of this month, or perhaps early August at the latest. I wouldn't be surprised if Joe gets 2-3 weeks at #1, too. Unless Billy Currington can make it all the way to #1, Joe has a good chance to spend more than a week on top, with The Band Perry looking about ready to peak, and Brad, Lee, Dierks, and Tim more than 10 million back (and Brad isn't moving very quickly at all, either).

I wouldn't count out "Whiskey in my Water" yet also. It's been a very slow but steady climber. There's also a chance that Joe could pass Tyler, and Tyler could get his 1 week at #1 after. It will be interesting to see how Tyler and his team react to Joe's rising airplay.

Yeah, I definitely think Tyler has a good chance to get to #1 too (at least on Mediabase), but I just left him out of my post because I wasn't sure whether he'd peak before or after Joe does (thus why I only mentioned Jake and Chris as being next in line for #1, since they're definitely ahead of Joe). :)

Footlights all the way for next single haha but seriously I think crickets would be a good choice for single but with the direction some labels have been going with singles don't be surprised if the humorous "Hee Haw" is released as a single next.

This is one of the hottest things on the chart; there's no doubt in my mind it's going No. 1. Especially when we've seen so many singles go No. 1 that probably shouldn't have due to manipulation these last few years, I don't see how this one could miss since it's absolutely smashing.

I'm going to comment blind on this one without reading any previous forum comments to sway my opinion. This song is so pleasing melodically and Joe's voice gives it the perfect sound to my ears. It makes me want to sing along and I generally love songs that make me want to sing along. But I have a few issues with the lyrics.
1. If a girl isn't in "painted on jeans" then she's in a sundress. Now admittedly, "climbed down off of them four wheels" could mean a pick up truck and likely it does when the next line mentions tailgates, but the visual cue I get from "hay field" and climbing off of four wheels is either someone getting off a tractor or off a four wheeler (more likely tractor because she is climbing down) because you don't usually "climb" down off of a pick up truck unless you're in the bed. So I'm picturing a girl climbing off a tractor or four wheeler and I just want to shake my head thinking she is wearing a sundress doing that.
2. "Whatever your thinking that's what I'm thinking". This comes across as charming if this were a long time together couple. Kind of like when you are really in love with someone and you want to go along with whatever the other person wants because you want them to have fun and make them happy for a special night out in the hay field. But this couple just met. Right now. It comes off kind of creepy to me.
3. If I just met some guy and he said he liked what I was drinking and he liked what music I was listening to and then later found out he was just doing that to be nice, DEAL BREAKER. Give me honesty every time. Gosh that is so sleazy.
4. They JUST met. You don't go down to the river to cool off when you JUST met. We all know what the meaning is behind that and it ain't so innocent. Geez Louise get to know each other first.
Other than that I like the song and it really does make me want to sing along. :) :) :)

Haha I kid, you're right, while Joe does veil it, this song is as sleazy as songs like "Get Me Some of That" and others, because he's literally just agreeing to whatever she says with presumably "cooling off" as the end-game, whereas GMSOT is at least up-front about his intentions lol.

So do we call that "soft-bro country" then? ;) I noticed that too. This is a channel changer for me so I got my full first listen the other day and thought the same thing.

I didn't know that lyric about cooling off in the river was indicative of sex. I thought it was literal, and I still think it is even with this idea now brought to my attention. I imagine them maybe going skinny dipping or something as the most scandalous take on that lyric, but that's just how I view it.

I never thought the "cool off" line was about sex. I just imagine it was two people after a couple of drinks and hitting it off well, and the girl said "hey let's go somewhere cool and get away from everything else". In fact, the ending of the song implies he got invited home with her or that they had sex, not the river part.

I'll blame it on all the bro-country I've been listening to. :)

I was just about to come in and say that the Billboard race looks extremely close this week. Thanks for posting the RTT info, Fanofctrymusic! Yesterday it was Chris Young tracking at #1, but today it's Joe. However, going off today's Mediabase update, there seems to be a very obvious push to get Tyler Farr to #1 there (MB) with either Joe or Chris taking the Billboard #1, although I suppose it's possible Tyler could come out on top there as well. It seems quite clear that Sony has applied the brakes to "Who I Am With You" in favor of "Whiskey In My Water", with the reasoning likely being that Tyler's song is running out of gas while Chris' song still has enough life left in it to keep climbing for another week or two. Joe Nichols is the wildcard here though...it looks like he and Red Bow might not play nicely along with Sony's plans. Lon Helton's co-hosting schedule is pretty interesting right now...Tyler Farr co-hosted this past weekend and Columbia put out a slightly different 'mix' of WIMW this week as well which definitely signifies that it's now-or-never week for Tyler; I expect he'll start to fall next week. Chris Young co-hosts the countdown this weekend, then it's Joe Nichols on the 19/20th followed by Billy Currington. Can they all spend time at #1? Probably on Mediabase, but I think we could see one or two of these songs top only Mediabase and not Billboard as well (Farr seems very likely to do just that).

Country No.1 Joe Nichols Yeah +131460 Florida Georgia Line Dirt If that were to hold until Monday, I will be able to add Joe Nichols as the 122nd artist in country music history with five #1s. Only a week after adding Jake Owen's name to the list.

Being sick and tired of the pushes to #1 (especially on MB) and as much as I like Chris as an artist and a person, I'm pulling for Joe to pull this one out. The whole "You take your turn, and then I'll take my turn" annoys the living you know what out of me. If I had to pick right now though, I'd give the edge to Chris with Tyler being a close second, and Joe being the least likely to get there this week on MB, and hopefully that will translate to BB as well just for some consistency.

Joe is far enough behind on Mediabase that it's highly unlikely he'll be #1 there come Sunday. Additionally he's a full 2 million behind Chris at Mediabase, which makes the RTT a bit surprising.
As of right now, I give Tyler Farr a 60% chance of being the MB #1 this week, with Chris Young having a 35% chance and Joe only a 5% chance. But Billboard is a different story. I'd say it's about 40-40 between Chris and Joe there, with Tyler Farr getting the remaining 20% chance.

Yeah (no pun intended) Joe's just a bit too far back to get there by Sunday with it already being Friday. I was hoping that the inevitable push from Columbia would never come, but sure enough "Whiskey In My Water" slowly stated to pick up steam as the days this week went on. Anything can happen tomorrow for Joe as crazier things have happened before chart wise, but you're right on him unlikely not getting #1 on MB this week. At the very least I want Chris to hold off Sony mate Tyler for that #1 on both, though I'm sure Columbia has done everything in their power to get Tyler to #1 on MB.

Footlights all the way for next single haha but seriously I think crickets would be a good choice for single but with the direction some labels have been going with singles don't be surprised if the humorous "Hee Haw" is released as a single next. Hee-Haw....God no. No, no, no! Love Joe Nichols' voice but that song is an absolute joke (and not a good one), especially compared to his previous work. The lyrics "I'll show you my hee-haw"- suggestive and gross! It's catchy but the lyrics make me uncomfortable. I've given the Crickets album a few listens and there aren't a ton of standouts, but I like "Hard To Be Cool", "Just Let me Fall in Love with you", "Better than Beautiful" and "Old School Country Song" as possible single choices. Here's hoping the label chooses something with more substance for the next single, especially following a generic sounding song like "yeah".

Even though they are my two favorite tracks remaining, I seriously doubt "Old School Country Song" or "Better Than Beautiful" will be released. Especially the former which I don't think they're even considering. To me they very well might play it safe again and send out either "Just Let Me Fall In Love With You", "Smile On Mine", "Hard To Be Cool" or "Baby You're In Love With Me". "Better Than Beautiful" would be awesome if they decided to really change it up, but I have trouble seeing that do to well at radio. "Crickets" is another I would like to see at radio but probably won't.

I'm really quite partial to "Love Has a Way," but I'd also approve of any of the first three tracks as a single choices. Pretty much anything on the album but "Y'ant To" and "Hee Haw" would be nice, though I agree some of the songs just wouldn't work particularly well at radio (Old School Country Song, Crickets, Better Than Beautiful, Billy Graham's Bible).

If Joe jumps from #5 to #1, would that be one of the biggest jumps in recent memory? Have there been any bigger jumps?

If Joe jumps from #5 to #1, would that be one of the biggest jumps in recent memory? Have there been any bigger jumps? Taylor jumped from #6 to #1 in December of 2007 with "Our Song". That was a pretty soft chart though which usually happens after such a long stay at the top with Kenny's "Don't Blink" and then Carrie's short stay with "So Small", so Joe's would be more impressive. Doesn't happen to often that songs jump from 5 or beyond.

Randy Houser's "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" jumped 5-1 last August. www.billboard.com/charts/2013-08-10/country-airplayThere have been some other instances of a 5-1 jump happening and even a few rare cases of a song outside the top 5 jumping to #1. The Houser example is the only recent one I can think of right now, though.

Listened to this album beginning to end again and I think with them scoring background back hits with contemporary style songs they might through out a more traditional sounding song as a third single and take a chance. It'd be nice to hear a song like Old School Country Song, Footlights, or Billy Graham's Bible on the radio but they may completely flop. Love Has A Way sounds like a likely choice though.
