As much as I loved Christina, I agree with the others that it wasn't her best performance. Her voice sounded strained at times. I thought she did good singing I Have Nothing and Run To You, but I personally think they should have included JHUD and Deborah Cox in the tribute as well.

The IWALY performance was good up to the belt. She was tense and out of synch with the band. But it was a good performance considering 2017 Christina as far as vocals go.

Also, it looked like she couldn't fully open her mouth to belt with those new lips. Am I the only one who noticed this?

It could be. I know she loves the lowered larynx sound and the tongue tension but it seemed off. Especially when trying to sustain the G#4 in Run To You.

Her voice has definitely diminished but I thought it was a fine tribute.

Christina is one of those super polarizing artists due to her vocal style and personality. People always make what they want to of her performances. Those who love her heard a great performance last night, and those determined to hate her heard a shitty one.
Personally, I heard a couple bum notes and some timing issues, but I think those are forgivable. She gave a strong, impassioned vocal overall. No, she's not as vocally consistent as say Kelly, but even Kelly's head voice at the end of "Miss Independent" last night was a little off. Great singers are allowed to mess up once in a while - they're human. I don't understand people's need to absolutely trash Christina in particular. She has a unique instrument that's difficult to wield, and she's more than proven time and again she can make magic with it, both live and in studio.
Leave Xtina alone.

I guess Jennifer Hudson was busy cause that performance was not up to par for Whitney standards.

Great singers are, indeed, allowed to mess up every once in a while. But there's a significant difference between Kelly going flat for a second and then course-correcting during a head voice riff and years of substandard live vocal performances. Christina's voice is not so unique that it requires some additional superhuman power to control that's different from, say, any other singer on the planet. Singing is hard, singing Whitney is harder, and singing Whitney nearly two decades into your career as a live performer is even harder than that. The standards people use to judge Christina are those she has brought on herself, by both her own string of amazing live performances earlier in her career and her near-ceaseless PR campaign to dub herself as the greatest singer of her generation.

The performance was solid and she did try her best Xtina seemed like she was struggling, then again it's Whitney, her voice is just so unique and hard to recreate It was a solid tribute and not a terrible performance from Xtina
Xtina has had far far far worse performances

Can she not work with a vocal coach to see if she can bring some of it back? Did she do something that caused irreparable harm to her voice.

Pat Houston approved! She said the only opinion that matters is Christina and the family's. lol
I'm used to people ripping her vocals apart. I've been stanning since 1999 and it hasn't changed. When she gives her best vocals people focus on her looks. For example she nailed Arethas tribute at the Grammys but hardly anyone focused on that because she "slipped" and looked fat.
She brought fire and passion to Etta James funeral that and had the whole church in holy ghost, but people instead focused on her tanning lotion going down her legs.
She perhaps had to best vocals served on television when she did "Porgy" at the Grammys and "Lift Me Up" at hope for Haiti but no one talked about those because they were flawless.
The only performance the press and critiics unequivocally agree on is her James Brown tribute at the Grammys. Which not surprisingly Pulse hates.
I could go on and on but the point is as a fan we've learned to recognize her talent but always expect the worst. Had she nailed yesterday's performance (which IMO she did) people instead would be talking about her face and lips.
We get it now.

^Honestly, I expected nonstop weight comments when I saw her last night.
I happened to see the ladies on The Real talk about the performance today, and I agree with Loni Love that they likely put the camera on Pink's face to start something because they've had drama in the past, even though they've since gotten over it.
It reminds me of how whenever Mariah sings, they somehow find a way to get a camera on JLO (who actually is a snake, unlike Pink).

Had she nailed yesterday's performance (which IMO she did) people instead would be talking about her face and lips. We get it now. What you're describing is the internet--ceaseless commentary on all things that are happening, have happened, and will happen. This isn't unique to Christina at all. Hell, the initial reaction to an (actually) flawless, first-time collaboration between Pink and Kelly was met with disappointment from within their fan bases at the song choice and the lack of vocal showboating. "Porgy" was perfect and "Lift Me Up" was great, and people did talk about them. Lots. The internet was different back then, but LMU in particular was held up by Christina fans and acknowledged by others for a good long while just before and throughout the Bionic era. Not sure why your revisionist history does your fave such a disservice, but I guess it doesn't fit into this Christina-is-the-utlimate-victim narrative. You can think she nailed it yesterday--no one can take that away from you. But if you expect to a performance with missed and strained notes to not get dragged on a music forum that will clock a bitch for an off-kilter eyelash, you were setting yourself up for a rough morning.

It was expected the moment her performance was announced. On the other hand, I'm not quite sure what any of you are expecting when you drop shitbombs in an artist's thread. That'll get a stir going no matter who it is--Beyoncé, Kelly, etc.

Maybe my expectations are so low for Xtine but I'm just happy that she kept the grunting and the "HA!"s to a minimum and tried her best to do Whitney justice.

I am still very proud of her despite it obviously not being her most polished delivery. Though hoping this means she's eventually coming back.

I remember she had a few great performances of Say Something that people praised for the most part.
With her having to do those 3 huge songs in a row, this was always gonna be a disaster. They should have had 3 ladies, 1 for each song.

There a lot of valid points to consider in the last couple of posts, it seems like people are all for, (or against), the performance for sure. As much as I love Christina, I agree with dbhmr that Christina has brought a ton of her problems upon herself, whether it be for her vocal approach, her outfits, her attitude, etc. Her appearance probably would have been nitpicked no matter what, but I think it’s a bit ridiculous to make her out to be a victim, simply because people have high expectations when any artist is asked to pay tribute to a legendary vocalist. Of course she’s human and doesn’t deserve to be hated, but when you place yourself on a pedestal and sing like your s***t don’t stink while delivering mediocrity, well...yeah. The public is well-aware Christina can sing. If she just let her talent/tone shine instead of letting her “Look at me, I can sing!” instinct take over she would probably earn tons of favor that she doesn’t get when she performs like this. I love Christina and have since I was young, but she’s not above criticism. I don’t agree with every opinion in here, but I think people need to chill a bit & realize differing opinions aren’t always the “wrong” ones.

A friend of mine is a low-rent vocal coach and I used to get in fights with her all the time over Christina’s live performances back in the day. I would stan endlessly about her voice and such, and she would tell me that they were terrible and doing irreparable damage to her vocal chords.
I hate to admit that she was probably right.

She was a hot topic yesterday on the morning shows. This is probably the most press she’s received since...the Super Bowl mishap?. Now would be a good time to release something.
