You're fine 14887fan! See I point that out but I'll be the one dating things 2013 until like May. ha. But you know, I'm looking forward to the ACM's this coming year for some reason. Just the possibility of performances for some acts I enjoy and nominations for songs/artists I've enjoyed as well. It's odd for me to be looking forward to an award show that is in April right now. Usually I'm looking forward to the Grammy's but I'm not this year despite Kacey being nominated quite a bit.

I look forward to awards shows because of the nominations; they're usually half-right and half-insane, therefore leaving me plenty of room to judge and mock the associations, academies, etc. ;) But, with the ACMs this year, I don't think Carrie Underwood will be performing (the one I'd obviously be looking forward to the most) since there most definitely won't be any new material released between now and April by her, A, and B, she already performed a medley of the Blown Away singles at the CMAs in November. Unless she pulls another "Undo It"/"Walk This Way" collaborative performance with Steven Tyler, I don't know what she'd perform. Here's hoping David Nail gets a spot due to his breakout success with "Whatever She's Got"! I'd love to say that Kellie Pickler could get a spot now that she's under management and has been getting a lot more promo lately (despite no luck at radio, still......... . . [sense the anger]), but that's just overoptimism at its finest, lol.

ACM Announces New Artist of the Year Semi-Finalists; Fan Voting Begins January 21 NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR semi-finalists are: Lee Brice Brett Eldredge Tyler Farr Justin Moore Kip Moore Kacey Musgraves Thomas Rhett Parmalee blog.gactv.com/blog/2014/01/09/acm-announces-new-artist-of-the-year-semi-finalists-fan-voting-begins-january-21/How are Lee and Justin there? New? They have been around for years now! These award shows are such a joke. If I were Lee or Justin and I won I would say "Thanks for the award but I would have loved to receive it when I was actually new!" And Kacey Musgraves is the only woman, so they aren't doing the New Female vs New Male artist like they did last year. Seems to change every year.

And Kacey Musgraves is the only woman, so they aren't doing the New Female vs New Male artist like they did last year. Seems to change every year. They combined this year from the start rather than later on like it has been the past few years. It feels like the couldn't find two other females to put up against Kacey so they just combined everything for the sake of it as well as duo/groups to put up against Parmalee. When it comes to New Artist categories with award shows they tend to go for people who have broke out. But still I don't get how this is Lee's break out year. He had a big year a few years back with Love Like Crazy as well as his co-writes for others. Didn't Justin break through a few years ago as well with his songs? I ask because I am not a fan of Justin's and haven't ever paid mind to his songs outside of a few listens when he is on the radio here. But yeah, this basically happens every year. They put in one or two artist that they haven't really award before for New Artist. It doesn't shock me anymore when they do. ETA: The more I think about it the more I would think their labels put out something asking for consideration for that? I feel like I have seen some adverts unless those were for Grammy's asking for consideration for certain award. I assumed they were from ACM's with nominations happening soon. But still it's odd even if it doesn't shock me that they have a few that aren't exactly new and didn't exactly break through this past year.

Are they just going to keep sticking Lee Brice in this category until he actually wins?

NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR semi-finalists are:
Lee Brice - ...he was nominated 3 years ago. Brett Eldredge - ok. Tyler Farr - bleh. Justin Moore - uh? Kip Moore - ok. Kacey Musgraves - only. female. on. this. list. Thomas Rhett - oh. Parmalee - only. group. on. this. list.
I mean, I'm not her biggest fan, but not even Cassadee Pope could pull a nod? This is absurd. Lee Brice's nomination is just laughable.
But, did we expect any different? Last year, Thompson Square was nominated for Best New Vocal Duo/Group after they won Top Vocal Duo of the Year just one year before that, so.

Does the ACM choose the New Artist of the Year nominees or do the record labels submit them to the ACM? I just shook my head when I saw this list.

No idea why Lee Brice and Justin Moore were nominated. They've had hit after hit by now. Even Kip Moore is a tad on the old side considering there are so many brand new artists who have had breakout hits very recently. It seems like a waste to nominate established B-listers.
For those of you who were wondering about my random chart/Callout analysis post, that was posted in the wrong thread. Sorry about that! I've moved it to the "Wake Up Lovin' You" correct thread. I had multiple Pulse tabs open at once, apparently.

Lee Brice is not a new artist anymore. Why does he keep getting nominated?
And didn't Justin Moore release his debut album in like 2008? And he's on his 3rd? How the hell is he nominated?

I think Carrie will be performing. They'd be silly not to have her on, and she'll certainly be nominated for Female Vocalist... so she'd have a reason to be there. I just can't imagine Carrie not being there to perform, that would mark the first year in her career that she didn't perform at the ACMs if that were the case. I'm fairly sure she'll be performing... not sure what, but I'm almost positive she will.

I remember when Shelby Lynn won Best New Artist at the Grammys she said something like "Thank you for for this award in the 2nd decade of my career." I was rolling laughing how she called them out. I certainly would expect at least Justin to say something like that if he wins. "Six years into my career and on my 3rd album I'm finally the best new artist!"
I wonder when all the nominations are coming out.

I was just saying it came across as that the not having enough when yeah, they do have enough. I am well aware of that. I probably should have worded that better. Something unrelated: Any ideas what this ad is for? I have seen it the past few days in aircheck. Today's had the label on it so I was trying to figure out what is being teased.

If they really felt the need to do 8, here's what I'd have done:
Thomas Rhett Tyler Farr Parmalee Brett Eldredge Kacey Musgraves Cassadee Pope Kip Moore Cole Swindell
I get the male/female ratio being ridiculous, males have simply been more commercially successful. That said, I think the ACM's are looking for an excuse to exclude Pope, adding Justin and Lee.

Personally, since I would've kept the Top New Male/Top New Female/Top New Duo/Group format, I would've done... Male -Brett Eldredge -Kip Moore -Charlie Worsham Female -Kacey Musgraves -Cassadee Pope -Brandy Clark Duo/Group -The Henningsens -Parmalee -The Swon Brothers (...I guess. IDK who else would be a good fit.)

^ I don't know about Kacey. She lost last year to Jana. Kacey's hype has built monumentally in the past year. Plus, her album wasn't even released until 3 weeks before the ACMs aired, so she didn't have much of a shot in comparison to Jana, whom which had WYW's strength to build a case off of. Now, Jana's flatlined and Kacey has a much better chance with a much bigger fanbase this year. I'm thinking she'll take it. Being the lone female doesn't hurt, either. :shrugs: She'll get the obligatory FVOTY nom and nothing else, so I wouldn't even care if she didn't perform. At this point, Carrie's presence at awards shows that aren't fan-voted (sans Grammys, whom which still seem to see the strengths in Country music, although this year's nominations look like they've dropped the ball) is just to show everyone else that they all suck in comparison to her, except for at the CMAs where she also shows them that she can also host well to tag along with her vocal performances. She'll be at the ACMs, I'm sure, but I couldn't care less if she performed at this point. If she doesn't, that'll be the best excuse ever to not sit through another show hosted by puke 'Bluke'.
