This album is so long. So far, "Cake" is my fave. I prefer his r&b side and can do without "hip hop" Trey, but I think I'll probably be purchasing this Tuesday.

Hard to Walk Away Serial Sneaky Damn Shooter, you usually give a little review Nah, I was just posting the Target tracks. I'm gonna listen to the album at the gym this evening and give my thoughts then. However, the overwhelming response I've been reading is "basic".

Trash.
Album sounds like one long song. It was hard listening to it all the way through. One trick pony but even his sex songs aren't catchy anymore.

I don't know what else people expect from him. He has a formula and it works. This album is no different. "Cake" and "Touchin, Lovin?" Those need to be released ASAP. "Disrespectful" is so wrong, it's right. Another solid album from Trey.

The fact that I like more than one song on it, already makes it better than Chapter V to me

Disrespectful Dead Wrong Smartphones Yes, No, Maybe Love Around the World
Trigga is a clip full of blanks. I didn't think he'd become this one-note and derivative.

i'm always wondering to whom people are rather listening when they dismiss Trey's music as overtly sexual. Which other male mainstream R&B artist is really touching subjects other than love and sex? Lyrically, they're all quite one-dimensional. Chapter V was bland production-wise, but i'll give this one a shot.

Now that I've had a chance to really listen to the album, I really like it. Much better than Chapter V.

i'm always wondering to whom people are rather listening when they dismiss Trey's music as overtly sexual. Which other male mainstream R&B artist is really touching subjects other than love and sex? Personally I never give much credence to the criticism that "so-and-so only sings about _______" because at least 95% of singers only sing about the same things over and over again. I think it's the go-to criticism people throw out when they're actually trying to say "The songs just are not good (or great) enough." Like, Taylor Swift gets this criticism constantly from detractors but clearly it must not be a problem because she stays selling albums. One of my faves, Kelly, is always being accused of only singing angry breakup songs, but if Kelly releases something else on par with SUBG or WDKY no one is going to care that it's another break-up song, it will be a hit. So would anyone really care that Trey is singing about sex and/or the club again if he put out a song on par with "Say Aah," "Neighbors Know My Name," or "Can't Be Friends"? Highly doubtful. But therein lies the problem. Trey hasn't released anything on the level of those songs since. So we fall back on dragging him for singing about the same old thing when we're really just annoyed that he hasn't found another way to sing about it. That is pretty much how I feel about most of Trigga. I don't care about the subject matter, but the lyrics and hooks are so dull and unoriginal I have no choice but to feel bored by most of it. I would say this is equal to Chapter V to me, unremarkable as a whole. There are a few bright spots on both albums, and it's not even like any of the songs are outright bad - they're just not good or great enough compared to his previous stuff. I will give credit to the production, which is excellent.

Cake Foreign Na Na Touchin Lovin Disrespectful Smartphones Change Your Mind
Album starts out strong but he loses my interest after the 7th song.
Chapter V was actually decent IMO.

Not sure how accurate it is, but according to Chart News' twitter account he's expected to debut with 85-95k.

Not sure how accurate it is, but according to Chart News' twitter account he's expected to debut with 85-95k. HITS estimated that amount, which isn't surprising considering the current sales climate, the performance of his singles and his opening week trajectory. I Gotta Make It debuted at #20 with 40k (400k to date). Trey Day debuted at #11 with 73k (350k to date). Ready debuted at #3 with 131k (1m to date). Passion, Pain & Pleasure debuted at #2 with 240k (900k to date). Chapter V debuted at #1 with 135k (401k to date).

The first few songs are really strong, and even though I enjoy Smart Phones, the rest of the album is just repetitive and boring.

NaNa Yes, No, Maybe YAS Change Your Mind
I think its time I turn my stan/fan card in for Trey and Keyshia Cole. I've realized the older I get (mid 20's), the less fond I am of ratchet&B and kiddy jingles. I'm really passionate about artistry and music designed with a purpose. Even fun songs can be built with musicality in mind. Yes, I love to get down & dirty at the club with my drank (whiskey, rum or tequila) but that is the only time I will entertain hood music. What I love about Ready and I Gotta Make It was the BALANCE of substance with the ratchet. Songs like Black Roses, Yo Side Of The Bed, Be Where You Are, Pair Of Wings & Gotta Go went hand & hand with Say Ahh, Invented Sex, LOL Smiley Face, All The Ifs and Ur Behind which made for great coming of age albums. But his last 2 albums have ALL been the same thing so where is the balance? This album sucks based on that premise alone. No balance and ZERO growth except on how to control that goat-like vibratto. SMH

He currently has an 80 on Metacritic! :o His previous high was a 71 with Passion, Pain & Pleasure. So weird that the score really doesn't seem to match the reaction to the album much. But then I remember Looking 4 Myself having a nice score too and obviously that wasn't reflective of how most people felt. I've listened to Trigga a few more times and still feel pretty meh about it, but I think I would bump it up over Chapter V rather than ranking them the same.

I meant to comment on his live show Sunday at the BET Experience and say that while he has improved live vocally, he needs to work on his showmanship. Pacing back and forth on stage for an hour and smiling at the crowd isn't enough (at least for people not mesmerized by his looks). I know he's not a dancer but that doesn't mean he can't be a more dynamic live performer. Chris Brown coming out towards the end was the highlight of the set and he didn't bust out into a dance break either.

The title is fitting for this album. I maybe in the minority here, but I really love the album. One thing that I am enjoying is the less ballads/slow songs on here. He shines when he does his singing rapping, imo. I still don't quite understand why "Na Na" was picked as the first single (it sounds better as an album track) and why that remix is even on the album? One of my least favorite is also "Change Your Mind", it just sounds dated. I hear the inspiration from Drake and Beyonce's latest on this one too. My favorites are "What's Best For You", "Y.A.S.", "Yes, No, Maybe", "Dead Wrong", "Touchin, Lovin", "All We Do", "I Know (Can't Get Back)", "Last Night", and "Smart Phones". I actually think this is strongest album since "Ready". He has many urban hits on this one. I hope the label actually invested in his single (I mean they have already done that) because this album could have legs for him. He may not have a Pop hit on here (maybe "Touchin") but he has a loyal following though.
