I love that Waltz/Woman performance so much. Except for the fact that her note at 0.27 is about as off key as I've ever heard her on a big television performance. I cringe every time. Everything around it either side is one of my favorite performances of hers ever.

I don't think it's off key, it's just a different note than Patty sings, but the note is on key.

Either way, god this performance is good.

Her first "while they were dancing" is sharp as fuq.

Her first "while they were dancing" is sharp as fuq. She definitely over-shot. It's not that jarring for me, but it's certainly the most noticeable flaw in a tremendous vocal performance. I am in awe of that G#5 in the bridge of Natural Woman-- the comparatively showy whistle note from Idol, though very impressive, is much less artistically relevant. I think this is a prime example of how Kelly's musical ear has matured, and transcended the stereotype of her origins.

^ Yeah, a lot of it might be the melody as well. But the combination of the two is very jarring to me.
Agree on the rest exactly.

I think it's the melody Jack. I don't believe it's off key, just different and that can be jarring when the original melody is so famous. I actually loved the way she changed it. I thought it sounded more mournful when sung that way.

I still watch that performance all the time. I'm so glad she did it at the Grammys and all her peers were reminded how talented she is. The tweets from that night were amazing.

Note still sounds overshot to me. I just put it through an autotune thingy and the note gets corrected where the ones either side do not.

Much better without that stan receiving 95 OMG texts in the background. BTW, I love seeing the waveform of this, because you can really see the buildup she does during the bridge. Masterclass. She is the Queen.

Haha, this is getting kind of funny and fun, but I opened 3 windows with the soundcloud that AllIEverWanted posted, then i went to the "they" at :29, 1:03 and at 1:20 and cued them all up and played them one after the other and they all sound identical to me.

It's definitely just a tad sharp, but not by much and isn't glaring to me. I actually think, if we're going to go there, the most imperfect part of that stunning performance is her odd, run-out-of-music combination of "natural" and "woman" in the last line. "Ooh like a naturwmun."

Someone please report this guy lol REPORTED Seriously though, how fun would it be to run a bunch of singers' live performances through a filter and compare how many notes get corrected for each of them? For an entire performance to only have one bum note (and one that isn't even that noticeable to the average* naked ear, at that) is pretty remarkable. *Jack must have dog ears, he don't count

"Songs should be positive, concept-driven top 40 smashes with big melodies and more soulful songs in the vein of Miseducation of Lauryn Hill."
Yes, they absolutely should.

Lauryn Hill soul-pop smashes....get ready Top 40 radio ! Do we know a timeline of when her country and pop records will be released ? With the baby due in May?, I can't see her promoting a first single till at least August/September which would put her in line for a Q4 release. I would not be surprised if she doesn't release the pop album until 2015. Without a doubt, she will be promoting the Christmas record in November/December. Thoughts ?

I have no idea what to expect with this. I sort of doubt she's going to do a traditional promo roll-out for the country album/EP. So that album could come out in the summer, and a first single late in 2014. I sort of like the November idea because she can promote the one song and the Christmas album, and then when things are dead in early 2015 she can come in with a full pop album. But the baby will still be so young I don't know how much time she'll even want to spend away from her.

I'm hoping for a dual promo campaign for both WIR and the new album. That way she wouldn't have to do the talk show round twice. I can see it already. Two KC albums in the top 10 in december!

just got me that she's releasing two albums in the (kinda near) future, which means (non-holiday album) 6 and 7 ! looks like she'll stick with RCA !? as much as I love EVERYTHING Kelly does, I'd like to hear her next pop album ASAP!!! but, since I want that era to be per to the fect, I guess I'll have to wait it out and maybe even let her release one country album before that

Is music gorilla a legit thing? Or is it kind of ratchet, like advertising a college on the radio?

Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is in my top 5 albums of all time, and some of those other 5 are taken by Kelly's albums. I just died. Not that I really expect her stuff to sound just like that but even just going for that sound is a good idea, in my opinion.
