She was hilarious and I loved her Instagram post. Brought back so many nostalgic feels!

The vocals she delivered had me praising God. That girl can deliver in ways that her peers can't even come close to. She really needs to do an album of stripped down soulful music. And her performance of HBS was so much better than the last one. She had so much energy on this performance and her vocals were so warm and controlled.

#14 now. What an honour to be the guest mentor and to have her song catalogue be the center of the show. As Jack indicated, tonight's performance was reminiscient of Kelly's last Grammy performance, and IMO, will be added to her list of best live performances to date. Speaking of, I have created a poll to see where this rendition stacks up to other high-profile covers, so please feel free to participate !

I wonder if they could only perform past singles... No Sober, Maybe, Cry, Addicted, Honestly, Save You, Irvine, Let Me Down?!?!

TTWLI and Beautiful Disaster were not singles.
You have to remember how young these kids are. They probably only know her singles from anything more than an album or two ago.

TTWLI was a single, but Beautiful Disaster wasn't.

I'm going to continue on with TTWLI. :) How about this performance? IMO it's the best televised performance of this song.

Her voice just soars in here. You can't watch this video with a poker face. Your eyebrows will most likely meet or your eyes will squint. I think this is how the term eargasm was born.

Yas Kelly!! I love this. I remember how big of a deal Mariah night on Idol back in 08 was for me, and this was just as big (well, not as big, but only because I don't watch Idol anymore). What a joy to see her catalog celebrated and her vocal chops praised by the judges even when she wasn't singing.
Get that legacy!

Anecdotal, but I think TTLWI is a lowkey favorite song choice for people. I heard it more than once when I auditioned for Idol one year. Should have been a bigger hit than it was...stupid Clear Channel.
Seeing Heartbeat Song leap on iTunes again only emphasizes my frustration that she didn't perform the song more before the album release. It's still near the bottom of my list of songs from the album (burned on me too quickly) but it's a good, likable song and there was no reason for it to not be another top 10 hit for her.

Like...I felt like J. Lo during Clark's performance. I was on the edge of my seat and almost fell off. There was a moment where he went off the rails a bit and verged towards the histrionics but he is EASILY the best contestant they have on this season. Let them keep praising that Black mohawked chick though. At Last was just... I thought I was going to have to get a defibrilator after it. I also forgot how much I love TTWLI. It was my favorite song, by FAR, from Thankful.

I have watched Kelly's performances last night a dozen times and I keep falling more and more in love with her. She is one in a million. So happy for her! Best voice in music right now bar none!

Went ahead and bought Clark's TTWLI on iTunes. So good. I really hope if she's adding any oldies into the setlist this summer, that she includes TTWLI.

forgive me kelly for i have sinned
she sounded great. def shut me up.
she didnt look cringe worthy. hair was looking great 180 turn from sunday night. yay hair extension. putting some efforts n thought into it made a huge difference. we know she doesnt care about how she looks, she doesnt have to, just hire people that do and have them do it for her.
thats how u do promo kelly gurl!

Thank god Kelly started using her head voice more, how sublime it is. I can't help but wonder if she'll throw out some whistle notes on this next tour, as she's clearly been pushing that facet of her voice lately. Someone needs to request "Emotions" this summer.

Despite her serving some Adele teas with her outfit (my friend pointed it out too), I can't remember the last time I was impressed by one of her performances. She nailed At Last. It was nice to get that from her.

Kellys performance of AT LAST last night was probably one of the best vocals to ever grace the idol stage. I push Kelly on my bf all the time and he likes her. but last night after AT LAST he looked at me and said "now that was amazing". Far and away one of Kellys best live vocals ever.
It was a wonderful celebration of Kelly and the show did a great job. I just wonder why they didnt mention the tour at all?

Does Kelly have a whistle register? Has she ever addressed that specifically, or just the "Natural Woman" note, which I've always maintained wasn't whistle but just her head voice. She used to have a more classically trained soprano voice, so I think she can just go that high in her head voice. The whistle octave can be much higher than that and is a different (and damaging) facet of your voice that not everyone has. For example, the ending notes of "Phantom of the Opera" are not whistle notes, they're head voice.

As far as I know she goes to a C6, which I think is within most sopranos' range. It doesn't make them more or less impressive, it's just a different register of singing, but given how they sound and Kelly's background, I've always assumed they were head voice, not whistle notes. Could be wrong.

Same register as the head voice notes in Heartbeat Song, for example. Half an octave lower than Natural Woman, which might not even qualify. Edit: Oh, you beat me to it! ^ Better put.

Kelly addressed on twitter once that she can hit whistle notes, she just chooses not to. She's said the one in "Natural Woman" was just a showcase of her range.

haha, I obviously posted that video ^ before I watched it. The wording of the part about possibly signing with Big Machine was a little misleading.
