She's been recording new R&B material too, so I doubt she's recording a 100% Disclosure produced album.

Yes, I may be somewhat of an elitist but that is besides the point. It's because you're letting your personal opinion of other genres lead to blind snobbery. You're grouping a downbeat house act in with cheesy club techno, which is the equivalent of how you're annoyed that Billboard counts songs like "The Monster" on the R&B chart. Usher and Mary are in completely different places in their careers now. Usher is still on pop radio's radar; he has more pressure to crank out multi-format hits (and more potential for fallout for choosing a "side"). Mary hasn't really been a crossover artist since about 2006. She's not even an automatic hitmaker at urban radio anymore. She's a veteran act who's at the point in her career where she's more focused on legacy than hits. Therefore, she can make quality music without boundaries; I have a new found respect for her for collaborating with an upcoming act ahead of the curve. The result is SO Mary (so much soul!) but sonically different than any of her previous work. For the first time in a long time she sounds fresh. Disclosure is not the generic dancepop on Pop radio that Usher put out with "Scream." Their throwback, atmospheric beats allow Mary to stand out while Usher's generic Shellback & Max Martin mold made him blend in with everyone else anonymously. They're two completely different situations to me, both politically and musically. Now as for an entire album, that may be overload, but I'm certainly pleased to see that Disclosure will be involved with a track or two. It'll be a refreshing change of pace to hear Mary's super soul soaring over some moody neo-house beats. Pretty sure she'll attract the attention of brand new fans, something she hasn't done with her past few efforts, and that'll be a wonderful thing as she cements her legacy as our generations most versatile soul singer.

I'd totally listen to a whole Mary J/Disclosure album and probably love the shit out of tbh. "F for You" is great in its own right, but the TEED remix of it and now the Mary remix of it are amazing. Her vocals just take the song into a whole different dimension really.

I feel like anyone debating Mary's genre changes doesn't know a lot about her to begin with. She's been doing cross-genre collabos since the beginning of her career. She's won Grammy's in Rap, Pop, R&B, and Gospel. She's worked with everyone from Eric Clapton to DMX to Justin Bieber. She's recorded in pretty much every genre but country--although she did appear on a CMA special last month, performing with Jennifer Nettles. She always back to her R&B roots. I don't know why anyone would be in a tizzy over this.
I've never heard of these guys, but this remix is hot--which only furthers my confusion on why anyone would be mad at this...

I love it (but part of me hopes you don't because it's already difficult enough to get tickets to their NYC DJ sets before it sells out these days).

She's recording with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.. Finally.. Thank God. They've produced some of her best music IMO.

R. Kelly is pushing for a "King and Queen" album with Mary. If that happens, I will pretty much be done with her.

If you're against it because of his status as a known child predator, then I understand.
But if it ends up happening, I think it could either be really good or really bad creatively. If they strip it down and create an album full of soulful contemporary R&B music, it could be great. If it's just another Black Panties with content from Mary, I wouldn't be here for it at all.

I think it's hypocritical and disgusting for someone who likes to present herself as a symbol of a strength and survivor of domestic abuse and child molestation to partner up with someone who is a known child molester and predator to women in general. I wouldn't be mad at a song or 2. But a tour is too much. I've seen Mary and R. Kelly live, and their shows are like polar opposites. Mary is screaming about empowerment and change, and R. Kelly groans out his pre-school sex anthems with a boner on stage [no exaggeration, I saw his hard peen on stage last year]. I'm sure that a joint album between them would be GOOD, but I don't think I could take Mary seriously anymore if that happened.

I really want her to do more with Tricky and The-Dream. They had something to do with all my favorites from her recent efforts... GROWN WOMAN, KITCHEN, JUST FINE, COME TO ME (PEACE), EMPTY PRAYERS, etc.

If she comes out with a hot bop like 'Just Fine' with a hot video, she may get a big hit.
No buzz singles this time Mary, go straight to the point!

Is she still touring right now? No. She's recording and has no performances lined up except Essence Fest in July.
