Enough of her and these damn remakes! I haven't heard one remake by Mary that I actually enjoy and play often. Just isn't her forte. See That Boy Again is the closest to RAW Mary has been in years but something still sounds off. SMH
I actually enjoyed My Life II, reminds me of Mariah's Elusive with horrible singles (I love Don't Mind and Why) but actually good album tracks that reminds you why you like them in the first place. Midnight Drive and Feel Inside still gets rotation.
EDIT: I do like As & You're All I Need but moreso because of George and Method than Mary. Well You are in the minority. Alot of Mary covers are spot on and have become some of her signature songs. Hell almost everyone associate I'm Goin Down with Mary than Rose Royce. But to each it's on. Hun, I know to each its own because guess what.. I WROTE IT. Duh! I forgot about I'm Goin Down, One and Stairway To Heaven... those are actually great with replay value. I'm specifically talking about those lame ass Chaka covers and this latest mockery of Shalamar she released. She needs to wrory about creating great ORIGINAL material instead of shitting on the past.

I'm expecting a 25-35k debut but I'm sure the label will do what it takes to ensure Mary gets another Gold certification.

Decided to put in a random Mary album in my CD player and listen to it all the way through. I hadn't done that yet with "Love & Life" (would always skip tracks), so I was surprised to hear that as a whole, the album flows really well. Additionally, it doesn't sound dated to me, which is a plus. The only problem I have with it, is that looking back on it now, it does feel like there aren't that many single-worthy tracks, and I can see why they chose "Love @ 1st Sight" "Ooh!" "Not Today" and "It's a Wrap" (especially that last one).

I can see why they chose "Love @ 1st Sight" "Ooh!" Two criminally underrated singles that today stack up among my very favorite tracks of Mary's career. I didn't understand the criticism against them back at the time. In hindsight, I understand it even less. Classics.

They milked the ever loving shit out of her Christmas album so I imagine they'll do the same for this. That coupled with a few UAC hits and maybe a moderate Urban hit should get this to the 350-400k range for a certification.

LOL the conversation never began. All I did was comment on a thread. Angry over what? Lets remember who quoted who and have a SEAT!
-------------
Kiss and Make Up is the only song I use out of all the leaks. Pop & Oak are rapidly becoming my favorite producers of this decade. Nothing but quality. I can actually hear Monica sing (SLAY) this song tho and thats not shade.
-------------
I like most of Love & Life, her vocals are very messy but the conviction she gives and those BEATS cannot be denied. I still jam to the video version of Love @ 1st Sight and Not Today like its 2003. I loooove Its A Wrap (I thought Mary was gonna sing abit of this on that Mariah remix). When We and Don't Go catches my wig as well.

Not Today will forever be my sh!t! These songs are both great too, I agree. Definitely Mary's most underrated era.

I like this more than Growing Pains and Stronger... and more than I liked My Life II... on first listen (though I love that album now). Most of the tracks are very strong; there just aren't really an obvious singles other than "Suitcase". The two weakest tracks are the two bookends (that Shalamar cover is a karaoke mess).

The new magic number is 450,000. Before you say "But, the Christmas album is Gold and it has only sold 325k!" It's different for Christmas albums. They sell year after year and it will eventually sell 500k.

I am all for team Mary J. Blige + Tricky and The-Dream. I've said it before, but my favorite songs on the past 3 or 4 albums have been from them. They give her a good balance of age appropriate material that are still sound current enough to keep her relevant at radio. There are moments on this soundtrack that give me teases of the MARY album.
I am slightly interested in seeing the movie just to see how these songs are placed in it.

I need to listen to the soundtrack again. The first listen was pleasant but forgettable and I still feel like she phoned in most of these songs.

The video for either A NIGHT TO REMEMBER or SUITCASE is dropping tonight, and the other vid should be out by the end of the week.

Ugh. That cover. I agree with the person who said her covers are pretty bad for the most part. I liked her 90s covers, but most of them in the past decade or so have been pretty bad. Straight up karaoke covers.

Straight up karaoke covers. I think it's partly because she got so much flack when she was younger for jazzing up her remakes too much, so now she's very cut and paste with them, and in her eyes it's paying some kind of respect to the original. I don't have a problem with this particular remake though, because I don't like the original anyway.
