The VEVO chart is in for last week. The total is huge, as expected, but very little of those views came from the US. Out of 57,606,304 only 5,223,728 came from the US. So, we likely won't see much moment on the Hot 100.

This interview worries me a bit. Shakira loves to give people what they don't expect. For this single we got ska/rock. Knowing she has a country song on her album, I bet she wants to release that next. All while the general public in the US wants a pop song from her. Hopefully they carefully select the 2nd single.

Agree. She has tested the waters with this ska/rock song nicely with a Rihanna feature. Now it's turn for the more predictable pop tune to pave the way for other riskier choices. I remember reading she had a dance rock song and video ready though (?). Unless they referred to this one, but I think it was another track. If it's pop enough I would be fine with that style for a second single.

Yeah, back in Nov they had planned to release a solo Shakira song that was rock/pop. Then they decided to delay things till Jan so they could release CRTFY instead. I'm guessing that's still a strong choice for 2nd single. I'd like for the country song to stay just an album track. Even if the song is great, the general public is not going to easily accept a country song coming from Shakira.
On a positive note, Shakira now has the 2nd most popular page in all of Facebook (#1 is Rihanna). She can use her social media advantage to give the 2nd single some immediate attention, specially the video. This time they need to release the video on a Monday so the entire week counts on Billboard. Shakira's followers won't all buy a single, but they will go watch a video. If they carefully organize the 2nd single, it could have a very strong first week. She'll be on the voice and she can use social media to instantly bring attention to the video.
It all comes down to song selection. CRTFY got some heavy early attention, the 2nd single likely will also. They just need to pick the right singles.

22 adds this week. 8 of the adds are for CHR/Pop (2 for Hot AC, 3 for Rhythmic), including one from a Top5 station! Another positive thing is that 7 out of the 8 pop adds are considered "real" adds by the AddBoard, meaning those stations played the song less than 10 times last week and added it this week!

BETTING ON THAT NEXT BIG HIT? Insider's tip: Shakira's "Can't Remember to Forget You," which arrived two weeks ago with a writhing-on-the-bed-in-tight-undergarments video co-starring Rihanna, could be 2014's first big song. Check out the metrics: nearly 111 million YouTube views; Number Three last week on Shazam's charts; more than 10 million Spotify streams; and a surge of 29 spots, to Number Three, on BigChampagne's Ultimate Chart. The song is charting well internationally, and it's a sure thing to break in the U.S. over the next few weeks.

I don't know why people are surprised by the performance at radio/retail - Women duets rarely have major success. If this has been recorded with say, Adam Levine, it would be in the H100 Top 5 and probably closer to Top 15 in radio. The video could've been just as steamy - it's not like Shaki and Adam don't have individual heat. I'm hoping we get a live performance on TV because I still like the song.

The song still has room to grow in the US. People often say "the video had 100M views in a week, people heard it." That sounds accurate, but what they are missing is that most of those views are from outside the US: First 2 days: 39,705,306 worldwide (6,567,943 from US) Following week: 57,606,304 worldwide (5,223,728 from US) The song could still grow in the US with more airplay. In the UK it's starting to take off: Week 1) #11 Week 2) #31 Week 3) #38 Week 4) #15 It's never once fallen out of the top 100 on iTunes and it's currently #15. This whole week it's been increasing, started week at 24 and has been moving upwards everyday. Its still #3 on iTunes worldwide: kworb.net/ww/#2 on iTunes in Europe: kworb.net/eu/and #5 on the Ultimate Chart: www.ultimatechart.comMaybe in the US it will also become a late hit, like most songs on the hot 100. On social media the song got Shakira to #1 on Billboards Social 50 and star count. CRTFY also made Shakira the #2 most popular page on Facebook (Rihanna is #1). With all that going on, I think it could still make a bigger impact in the US. Also, all the #1 WW iTunes hits on kworb have gone on to become huge hits in the US. This song should make a little more noise in the US. kworb.net/ww/1 Pharrell Williams - Happy 1(23) 2 Pitbull - Timber 1(21) 3 Shakira - Can't Remember To Forget You 1(2)7 Eminem - The Monster 1(51) 10 Avicii - Wake Me Up 1(17) 14 Daft Punk - Get Lucky 1(68) 15 One Direction - Story Of My Life 1(2) 16 Katy Perry - Roar 1(55) 25 Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines 1(37) 33 Lady Gaga - Do What U Want 1(2) 36 Rihanna - Diamonds 1(14) 39 P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason 1(23) 67 Adele - Someone Like You 1(51) 71 ADELE - Skyfall 1(11) 73 Rihanna - Stay 1(2) 80 Adele - Rolling In the Deep 1(1) 87 PSY - Gangnam Style 1(95) 103 will.i.am - Scream & Shout 1(36) 105 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Thrift Shop 1(3) 106 Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know 1(51) 118 Lady Gaga - Applause 1(4)

CRTFY was #1 on JoJos Top 9@9 and currently is. I wonder why KIIS doesn't play it more. www.kiisfm.com/pages/jojo_9at9/ The Top 9@9 1) Can\'t Remember to Forget You - Shakira + Rihanna 2) XO - Beyoncè 3) Dark Horse - Katy Perry + Juicy J 4) Talk Dirty - Jason Derulo 5) Sleeping With A Friend - Neon Trees 6) Say Something - A Great Big World + Christina Aguilera 7) Take Me Home - Cash Cash 8) Love Me Again - John Newman 9) Animals - Martin Garrix
