I noticed that a lot of stations are still playing the heck out of "Carolina." Did SCR release Close Your Eyes too soon or is this normal? I know they're about to shoot a video for the new single, so maybe when that comes out radio will move on. It's pretty normal. "Carolina" was on the charts for a long time...a really 'slow burner', if you will, and so it'll be getting a good deal of recurrent airplay for quite a while yet. They're most likely in for another slow climb with "Close Your Eyes" but I do think this will turn out to be another pretty big hit. Sales are already trending well ahead of the airplay.

BBR artists always climb slow unless they're named Jason Aldean. Look at how slow T2's last few songs climbed.

"Carolina" took the better part of a year to peak so I'm guessing this will be another long climb.

I know most of you don't care what I have to say, so I promise this'll be my last post for a couple of days. Anyways, I agree this would be a slow climber but I figured they would be in the Top 40 by now. Do any of you guys see Parmalee having lasting success? They're still new artists and radio isn't exactly not playing it. It's just taking a while. It hasn't gotten the push from radio that Eric Paslay has, for example, but I stilly think this will hit top 20 at the very least.

I think this is doing pretty well and I think it's set up to be a pretty big hit. I also think BBR has done a great job building up a roster.

I want them to succeed. As long as they at least go top 20 I will be satisfied. Of course I want them to be better than that.

But "Real" was great as well and brings back memories for me when it was charting; I completely agree. BBR seems fully committed to James as an artist, so perhaps we'll get a new single from him sooner rather than later.

^ If BBR is so committed to him, then WHY DIDN'T THEY RELEASE HIS ALBUM WHEN HE ALMOST HAD A TOP 20 HIT?!?

I've said before they should have released his album when either "Real" or "Didn't I" peaked. Seems like many here were supportive of BBR's decision of not releasing his album, but to me if you put all that time and effort into making the album, radio tour's, single promotions, and concerts for James to perform at; wouldn't you want some kind of reward for your investment? But he's been there since 2009, and his last two singles were complete flops with "Walking Contradiction" and "Thank A Farmer". So the fact he's still on their roster is a positive.

"Real" is one of my favorites. Every time I make a CD of random country songs I always include it. I don't really remember "Didn't I" that much, but I agree that they invested all the effort for James not to release an album is bizarre. Thanks for the replies/discussions. I never sat there and looked at the chart runs of all Broken Bow artists. Most of them have a slow climb so now I am not surprised it isn't in the Top 40. The best way to describe "Didn't I" is it's his version of "Do I" by Luke Bryan. I think they came out generally at the same time too, not certain of that though. Now which one you prefer probably depends on whether you like slower song (LB's version) or a bit more mid tempo (Wesley's)

Broken Bow has a lot of artists who never gain much traction but just slug single after single up the charts, often without much digital support. I guess if you define lasting success as continuous airplay hits, then Parmalee should hang around for a while, but their record sales are pretty low, and imo that's what really determines how successful an act is. I can see them being like Randy Houser and getting an occasional big hit but otherwise never really gaetting their hands on the Big Mo.

This one is moving at a snails pace but still holding in there. I'm thinking a top 20 peak is the best they could hope for, anyone who knows more about the charts than I do care to make a peak prediction?

I'm thinking a top 20 peak is the best they could hope for, anyone who knows more about the charts than I do care to make a peak prediction? I do think the end might be near for Parmalee. To Stoney Creek's credit though, I believe they've done a great job keeping "Close Your Eyes" afloat the past month or two. If this was 2004 instead of 2014, I think you would have seen a peak of around #29-#30 or so. But most songs move up the chart at a rather slow steady pace these days. It's up over a million in audience this week and had a 2.6 million increase last week on MB. But it's spins gains on MB have been below 100 for a few weeks in a row here and it's now 28 weeks old now. The problem with moving as slow as they are moving (even though it's still moving) is that other songs have and will continue to leap frog them. I see Keith passing them next week and we still don't know where Blake's song will debut. Others like Maddie & Tae and Chase Bryant are prime for passing them over the next two to three weeks if they are able to hold on for that long. Top 20 is sill an outside shot but time is running out for them.

I agree, this has been treading water for quite some time, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it peak in the next few weeks, missing the top 20. This week's housecleaning should give it a new peak on Billboard, but it will also likely be passed by Keith Urban at least (and maybe Rascal Flatts, too). Then, like sabre14 said, there are a number of songs (including Maddie & Tae, Blake Shelton, etc.) that are just going to blow right past them. I think they'll end up peaking around #22 or #23.

Begun hearing this a bit on radio recently and I actually like this one. Their first two singles I didn't care for (Musta Had a Good Time was garbage, and Carolina was like a Daughtry knockoff masquerading as a country song), but this one works for me because it actually sounds like it's meant to be country. The vocals also strike me as less Daughtry-lite on this one as well for w/e reason, so that helps.

I give Stoney Creek credit for keeping this song alive for so long in the 20's and 30's which isn't an easy part of the chart to keep a single alive for so long. That top 20 peak finally came this week with "Close Your Eyes" reaching #20 on MB and #19 on Billboard. It should automatically move to #18 next week on MB with Lady A going recurrent and EYB falling below them - plus there's nobody withing shouting distance in points. Two months ago I did not see this having enough left to make the top 20, but I believe that the label saw they had a song that was testing pretty well and did not want to give up on it's eventual peak. It still has a bullet of 371 today and is up 129 spins and 1.2 million in audience since Sunday on MB.
At 33 weeks old, I don't see "Close Your Eyes" hanging on for a lot longer but Parmalee is certainly getting known for long chart runs with their last two singles.

At 33 weeks old, I don't see "Close Your Eyes" hanging on for a lot longer but Parmalee is certainly getting known for long chart runs with their last two singles. I'm not too surprised that this has hung in there. Stoney Creek has really invested in their artists and they seem to be facing reality head-on, that if you want to break a new artist it takes a slow chart run and lots of patience. BBR seems to know the harsh reality when it comes to 'breaking' new artists. Here's hoping "Another Day Gone" is coming up as the next single. I'm not sure if I see them going for another single, actually. It's only going to get harder and harder to get it up the charts. The album will be a year old soon and it hasn't sold much despite a Gold-certified #1 hit. It's hard for these new artists to release 3-4 singles per album especially if the singles' release dates are sometimes separated by as many as 40 weeks or more. "Carolina" had an adds date of February 4, 2013, and "Close Your Eyes" went for adds on February 3, 2014, so the gap there was a full year, and "Carolina" was essentially the album's lead single. If "Close Your Eyes" lasts through October or even well into November, they would face challenges with the release date for the next single. Do they do a late November/early December release, or do they wait to January/February again, in which case it would be almost a year since the release of "Close Your Eyes"? January is usually really busy with A-list releases as well.. With that said, I can see them doing one more single, it's just that I'm not sure if they will. I think the album is full of great tracks including "Another Day Gone", but as much as I love that song, I don't think it's the best choice for radio. I think "Already Callin' You Mine" would be their best bet as it has more of an engaging, singalong-type of melody. "Day Drinkin'" would've been great too but I highly doubt that they release that given that Little Big Town has "Day Drinking" on the charts right now (and I like LBT's song but Parmalee's is much better and catchier to my ears).

They did mention on The Highway, way back in 2013 that "Already Calling You Mine" was probably going to be a single in the near future. "Another Day Gone" is my favorite song on this album but I agree in Stoney Creek either going with the safest choice remaining or none at all. Perhaps the Thompson Square situation might scare them into not bothering with another release and hold off til a lead in Q1.

theboot.com/parmalee-interview-matt-thomas-close-your-eyes/Here's an article I remembered reading from a while back. At the end, Thomas (singer/guitarist) mentions that if it were up to him, they would release 'Dance', or possible 'Already Callin' You Mine'. Personally, this album seemed so radio-friendly to me, there are probably only a couple of bad single choices on the whole album. I can see both 'Dance' and 'Already Callin' You Mine' fitting in well with the rest of what's being played on the radio.

That having been said, I agree with jhomes87 that we could very well see a new single from a forthcoming release. I hate to say it but, given the lackluster album sales and the lengthy chart runs of the first two singles (I don't really count MBAGT), that might be the best option for the label and for the band.

Top 15 on today's kworb chart. I think this has a legitimate shot at the top 10 now. Tim and Brad will probably pass them soon, but with Cole going recurrent soon and Big and Rich within striking distance, there is a chance.

It really has been astonishing how long this album's life cycle has been for Parmalee. If you'd like to count "Musta Had A Good Time's" chart run, then you can date back to late 2012. But "Carolina" and "Close Your Eyes" alone have spent a combined 82 weeks on the chart.
I was wrong in thinking that Stoney Creek would relinquish this once it hit the top 20. I still think it's going to be difficult to reach the top 10 just because how far it's behind in audience and how old it is but Stoney Creek saw an opportunity here for "Close Your Eyes" to become another marathon chart run and radio is obeying their wishes by keeping this song in high rotation considering just how long ago this was released. I also am now fairly confident that the label has put all their eggs in "Close You Eyes'" basket and there will be no more singles from this Feels Like Carolina.

"Close Your Eyes" finishes at #10 on MB this week, marking Parmalee's second top 10 single. Kudos to Stoney Creek's promotion staff who have kept this alive since last Winter.
