A month or two ago we were questioning if this would go top 20. It is now top 10. Wow.

I just noticed that he sings "keep them baby blues wide open" in the first verse, and then the hook is "might wanna close your eyes for this". Come again?

I loathed "Carolina," but I like this one quite a bit. The guy singing it still makes this sound like a Daughtry song vocally, but at least the song sounds more country in its production and I love the melody. Not among my favorites, but a pleasant enough listen when it comes on the radio for sure. Kinda surprised as well that it's made it up the charts this far after looking like it was going to struggle to reach Top 20. But then again "Carolina" had a similarly slow go up the chart and didn't look like it was going nearly as far as it did for a good chunk of its chart run.

So this got the Mediabase top 10 this week, but just barely missed out on Billboard's (it's #11 due to Tim McGraw pulling ahead, and Florida Georgia Line staying on for another week).
It'll be interesting to see if this keeps going, or if Stoney Creek is happy with a top 10 showing on one of the charts. FGL will definitely leave next week, but Carrie Underwood is closing in from behind. Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney are coming up quickly just behind her as well. This week was probably their best chance at both top 10s, as it's the 39th week. We should know in a couple of days if the label is satisfied with a Mediabase top 10, or if they'll keep pushing.

I think Stoney Creek might keep pushing for another two or three weeks. I still believe this very well might be they final single from this album since both hit singles have taken so long to take off and the album itself isn't exactly blazing up the sales charts. I don't know if they can make it to the top 5 but I think that Stoney Creek wants a top 10 finish on both Mediabase and Billboard and will fight to keep this alive.

I'm quite certain that the label will keep this one going. They've had "top 10 and beyond" ads out every day in the daily Aircheck emails. I don't know if they can take this all the way to #1, but if David Nail's "Let It Rain" could get that high, then you never know. I do agree that they're likely to get passed by Carrie soon, and we also have Brad and Eric coming up really fast. But I don't think this one is done yet--I expect to see Big & Rich's "Look At You" collapse before Parmalee does.

"Close Your Eyes" did make the top 10 on Mediabase this week, but Brad and Carrie should surely pass Parmalee over the next week or two, meaning this may fall out of the top 10 on Mediabase and could take another two to three weeks to make the top 10 on Billboard. I still expect a peak around #5 or #6 for this song since Stoney Creek has proven itself to be "the little engine that could" with its past chart runs, but I could see this having a bullet as late as the first chart of 2015.

I can't place my finger on it... but this sounds almost exactly like another recent country hit, or a cocktail of a few of them... anyone else hearing it?
I can't get into this one, but for what it's worth, it is tolerable.

I can't get into this one, but for what it's worth, it is tolerable. I can't agree with your sentiments more. I heard this for the first time a couple weeks ago and all I heard was something about "leaning your pretty self on over" (and pretty sure I've heard that in a Jason Aldean song before). They lost all of my interest at "two tan legs for days dangling off the back" (again pretty sure we've heard a line like that a hundred times already). I again heard this on the radio today and was thinking to myself just how many more times over can they write about a pretty girl with two tan legs?

Well i think this is done. Now i'm no expert on this sorta thing but a quick glance on the mediabase charts shows this fell from #3 to #6 and is losing spins and all that. This song did great as far as i'm concerned, i thought this would die within the 26-30 range and it finishes top 5. That said, i'm looking forward to new music from them that doesn't take forever and a day to climb up the charts

This is a weird time of year though, and this song has fooled me before, so I'm not ready to say it's 100% finished. But I definitely agree that it's likely done.

Stoney Creek is going to let this go at this point. Eric leaped Parmalee and there's just no feasible way they will wait Tim, Brad, Kenny, Carrie, and Eric to try and get higher than they already have gotten, which is #3. They are down another 460k in audience today and lost close to that amount yesterday. This was a fantastic run though that I did not see coming. You know what's amazing is that Parmalee's previous single and future #1 "Carolina" was released in early 2013 so Parmalee went nearly two full years with their last two singles. They went nearly two and a half years if you want to count "Musta Had A Good Time" which is part of this album era. And I'm pretty sure this will be it from Feels Like Carolina, even though I heard "Already Callin You Mine" on The Highway a couple weeks ago. "Close Your Eyes" took far too long to peak and Stoney Creek probably knew that if they went all in on CYE, that would likely be all from the album.

I definitely hope Parmalee has a future on the country charts, they fill a nice role IMO. Never saw this song reaching the top 5 after so many weeks outside the top 30. But if there's a will there's a way, and Stoney Creek fought hard this one. Hopefully their next lead single can get up the charts around the 35 week mark, and not 50.

Very impressive that they got this into the top five. A few months ago I thought top 20 might be pushing it. I agree this is likely it for the album, but I do hope they can keep momentum going with their next lead single.

I just went back to look up some numbers. If you combine "Carolina's" chart weeks (48) and what "Close Your Eyes" has garnered thus far (46) they have spent a combined 94 weeks on the chart with their last two singles. "Musta Had A Good Time" went for adds in the summer of 2012. I fully expect them to end the era now but if by some small chance they decide to go with another single, this album era could go three full years from start to finish.

Haha wow, that's about as long as Come On Over, which had 11 American singles.

This is definitely done. They had some "max rotation" type of ads out in the daily Aircheck emails early in the week, but the daily updates seem to reflect that a decision was made sometime on Thursday to pull promotion of the song.
Monday 12/15: -44 spins, +319k audience Tuesday 12/16: +47 spins, +19k audience Wednesday 12/17: -7 spins, +217k audience Thursday 12/18: +6 spins, +167k audience Friday 12/19: +54 spins, +199k audience Saturday 12/20: -79 spins, -447k audience Sunday 12/21: -49 spins, -457k audience
It's somewhat rare for a song to get pulled in the middle of the week, but it definitely looks like the label people saw the writing on the wall Thursday evening; Tim and Brad were simply going too strong, and with Kenny, Carrie, and Eric all coming up so strongly, it definitely seems that Stoney Creek realized they wouldn't be able to get any higher than #4 (although their MB peak was #3 last Sunday).

SiriusXM's The Highway has been playing "Already Calling You Mine" lately, so that may be an indication of the band's next single. The Highway was first to play both Carolina and Close Your Eyes.

I'm also inclined to think that this tune is done; a #3 peak is certainly a noteworthy accomplishment for anybody, and especially for a new artist in an era of super-cautious MDs and tight playlists which are very detrimental to newcomers.

Last week's loss of 2,964 spins for this tune is the largest in the history of the Mediabase country chart, eclipsing the previous record of 2,628 spins set a few years ago by 'Come Wake Me Up' by Rascal Flatts.
Obviously the programming of country stations has changed radically since then to the extent that these two plunges took place in eras which are dramatically different and consequently not really comparable, but I thought I'd point this stat out to everyone nevertheless.

That is interesting.
What I find almost more interesting is how large the drop was this week considering how *slowly* it was falling in its first bulletless week, after Stoney Creek had apparently already pulled promotion.
