I've been trying to avoid this thread because I really don't have anything to say about this band or this song that hasn't already been said several times over, but I need to say this. I avoid listening to this song, but when I'm flipping through stations and happen to land on it, it seems to always be on that long rapping section and I find myself thinking "what the HECK am I listening to?" I know some people actually like the bro country thing, but this is a full on rap section and I just don't understand how country radio is taking this song so well, accepting it even. I'm sure it will hit number 1, but as a country fan the message that sends doesn't sit well with me.

I heard this on Clear Channel KNIX yesterday (I wasn't in control of the radio dial.. ;) ) and it was really weird because they edited out the entire 2nd verse of the song. It went first verse, chorus, then Luke. I found it very strange. Perhaps KNIX thinks the 2nd verse is too 'rap-like' but yet the rest of the song doesn't quite cross that line? I'm sure the tongue-in-cheek line about "riding high" doesn't vibe well with some stations either. The entire rap verse is just a hot mess. At least they haven't made a remix of this song with Nelly yet. It could always be worse.

^ I can't wait to hear that station's edit of "Ready Set Roll". Just the Microsoft Sam part at the beginning, "Ready set let's roll, ready set let's ride", end chord.

Stations are going after a demographic that is not true blue country. These crossover listeners are a much larger segment of the population than those who mainly like country music. That is unfortunate because it means that country music is losing its identity as a genre at least as far as mainstream radio is concerned. Ah, the death of a genre. So sad. Case in point. I have a friend who primarily listens to hard rock and classic rock. She loves country music when she is in the mood. She told me that she rarely goes to the country radio stations any more because the songs don't sound "country" any more. When she wants to listen to country music, she does not want to listen to pop or rap or rock. She was the one that used the line that country music is having an identity crisis and she said it makes her sad that this is the direction it seems to be heading even though her primary music she listens to is rock. I'm thankful that as I am driving in my car, I have 6 country stations that I can listen too on free radio. I jump around a lot to avoid songs like this one from FGL. It's a sad state of affairs if you ask me.

They're driving away all other kinds of country music fans in favor of one specific demographic, and I can't see that demographic being loyal to the genre for as long of a time as other country fans. Country radio is its own biggest enemy right now, and if the current trend continues it will keep driving itself into the ground.

Has anyone heard if they're going to release a 6th single yet? I don't see why they wouldn't, it's guaranteed to be at least top 5 at this point. I would love to see People Back Home or Dayum, Baby get released. Both of those would be perfect for their fan base (admittedly including me). People Back Home at least would be a slight change in topic, with at least a little meaning behind it, although they basically rap on that song too.

I don't know about a sixth single. All the stuff on the deluxe edition seems so much like rap/hip hop that I can see any deluxe release being polarizing. I really wish they would have released "Hell Raisin' Heat of the Summer" or "Here's to the Good Times" before moving on to the deluxe edition. I'm really not crazy about any of the new material.

There's a good chance the go 6 IMO.
As unlikely as it is, I would love to see a "People Back Home" release. Rap or not.

Both of those would be outstanding single choices. Honestly, all joking aside, I feel like almost any song from the non-deluxe album could reach #1 on country radio, and any song would still be a better choice than "This Is How We Roll." As far as their deluxe songs go, I think "Headphones" could easily be a Top 40 crossover hit if they marketed it the right way. Hate them or not, FLG have really figured out the formula for what sells.

This song sucks, but I must say I really enjoy "Headphones". Really catchy chorus. Also, I strongly dislike songs with rap in them, but I do like "People Back Home". Really cool sound to that song, with good lyrics. One of those 2 for the next single would be good.
It's a shame "Tell Me How You Like It/"Hell Raisin' Heat" won't see radio.

I don't wish to hear or see it, but I have to admit, them collaborating with Rihanna would probably be one of the top selling songs on iTunes for the year. I can only imagine how big it would be.

I just heard this on my HotAC station. I don't *think* the version I heard had Luke Bryan on it but I'm not sure. Anyway, my impression....this certainly isn't Cruising or whatever their first hit was called. That was an instant catchy song. I don't see big crossover success based on this song alone...name recognition may cause it to be a hit though. Interesting....
Also, no way this group is remotely country. Let's be honest. I caught part of their performance out at a big country festival in California on TV the other night. This is a rap/pop group with twang. I didn't care for their live act. It was the same thing song after song.

For me at least the prospect of either FGL, Luke or Blake winding up as this year's most played artist at Mediabase makes me cringe after they finished 1st, 3rd & 4th respectively last year, with Tim finishing second and The Band Perry rounding out the top five.
Jason's mini-hiatus pending his new single and a new CD this fall will almost certainly take him out of the running for the 2014 airplay crown in spite of very steady recurrent airplay for 'When She Says Baby', which remains the number one single so far this year as this chart year reaches the midway point a week from Sunday.
However, Jason still has a shot at being declared Billboard's country artist of the year for 2014 which combines sales and airplay, but getting his new single to radio next month followed by a new CD in early September would appear to be a must for that possibility to become a reality, so stay tuned!

An ad in the BCU tonight requesting heavy rotation and for radio to "make history as they go for their 5th consecutive #1 single in Billboard!"
I can't remember...would that be the overall record for consecutive #1's to start a career, or is it just for a duo (since Brooks & Dunn sent their first 4 singles to #1)?
Meanwhile...Big Machine has a big 'Power Up for #1' ad out for Rascal Flatts' "Rewind" in tonight's Aircheck. My prediction is that RF gets a Big Machine-esque push to the top spot on Mediabase, but they have to settle for a #2 BB peak while FGL/Luke gets the Billboard #1, and then likely a 2nd week at #1 on BB and a week at #1 on MB once RF starts to plummet next week. After that, "Play It Again" should take over, and then probably "Automatic".
The BMLG probably had it all planned out and I'm sure they've got it all figured out, how to manipulate the MB chart so that RF gets to #1 there but only there, allowing for FGL to take home the Billboard #1.

This would be a new record for most number singles at the start of a career, which is pretty sad to put it mildly; this format used to be a haven for the finest songwriters in existence as well as for females, but it has definitely lost its way, making this current state of affairs as equally dismal as top 40 radio being dominated by drum machines and producers, not to mention a ton of marginal singers.

Will "This Is How We Roll" technically count as tying the record for five #1 hits from an album, even though it wasn't on the original CD, just the deluxe version released this year?
To me it seems like a re-release album shouldn't count any more than a greatest hits CD.

I wouldn't count it as tying Rodney Crowell's "five #1's from one album" record, since TIHWR is from a deluxe re-release. But the record in question is five #1's to start a career, and FGL will almost certainly get that. Blake Shelton, however, will tie the "five #1's from one album" record later this spring/summer, as I'm confident that "My Eyes" will hit the top spot.

Zac Brown Band came so close to starting their career with nine #1's in a row – I think "Whatever It Is" missed the top spot by about 1K AI. I guess there's always a slight chance that Blake gets a MB only #1, but that's probably just hopeful wishing on my part.

I like the part where Luke Bryan sings by himself! The only part of the song that actually sounded legitimately(well IMO of course) country! I have to agree that Luke's part isn't as bad. The so called rap part from FGL is just horrible! I listen to a wide range of music but 90% is country. Leave the rapping to the rappers!!!

Does anyone know why People Back Home is up to 78 on iTunes all genre chart? Was it performed on an awards show or something? I still feel like that would be a huge hit on radio.

It was performed for the ACM Presents: An All-Star Salute to the Troops special on CBS tonight. The show was taped in early April right after the ACM Awards in Vegas, but it didn't air 'til tonight. I didn't catch any of it but I saw on Facebook that FGL performed "People Back Home". I am not sure if FGL performed any other songs, but for PBH, Brian wore a black t-shirt with Florida outlined in white on it, and Tyler wore a t-shire with Georgia outlined on it.

Yeah FGL preformed People Back Home on the ACM Tribute to the Troops and I've got to be honest and say I really like it. Brian Kelly has a good voice and the rap verses actually fit. I would bet this to be their next single unless they wait for the new album.

Yes, and it was a good performance last night. I was surprised to see how many people in the audience were singing along, even to the rap verses - kind of unusual for an album cut. Brian does have a good voice - I enjoy the songs where they both sing, which is probably why I like Stay so much.
Should have been a single.
