I'm guessing that Miguel is a lock for a Grammy nomination for this album, along with D'Angelo (another experimental R&B album that fuses rock to soul successfully.) Also, I love how Pitchfork used to word "heady" to describe Miguel. It's almost as if I wrote that review, LOL. We won't bring D'Angelo in this. This does not touch that album (I know you aren't comparing them yet I see your approach).

His last album also had the assist of great producers and writers in Pop & Oak, Fisticuffs, Salaam Remi, Elle Varner, Jerry Duplessis, and Happy Perez. Maybe he's just not "there" yet to take in a whole project on his own which this is with 80% being all him. The exceptions are "...goingtohell" and "Hollywood Dreams" which has the assist of Cashmere Cat/Benny Blanco and Fisticuffs respectively. I'm assuming you didn't read the credits of this album because Pop & Oak, Fisticuffs, Happy Perez and Salaam Remi (and even Raphael Saadiq) all come back for this CD. It definitely sounds like Miguel steered them and not the other way around though, so I can see why you would inflate his involvement. We won't bring D'Angelo in this. This does not touch that album (I know you aren't comparing them yet I see your approach). Actually, I am. People complaining about lack of discernible melodies, hooks, "hits", etc. can look no further than critical darling D'Angelo. I love that album too but I'm not quite sure why Miguel is getting slammed for diving deeper into the psych-rock-funk or whatever stew when D'Angelo seems to be getting a pass. At least I can understand most of Miguel's lyrics.

It's a very soothing listen. It's the kind of album that's supposed to be played from start to finish. The lack of imidiate hooks can be forgiven by the fact that the music is still top notch.

No sales estimates for this? Hits didn't release any estimates for this week, and Billboard only gave an estimate for Meek Mill since he'll be #1. areyoureadytojump pointed out in the Hits thread that it's probably because this is going to be the 11 day tracking week before the global release starts. I don't expect Miguel's sales to be high, but I don't know how those extra four days will affect things.

For him to randomly sound off about that after delivering this underwhelming album is as stupid as it is petty.

I feel like he's trying to be the Kanye of the R&B world with those comments, but he's just coming across as a douchebag.

1. It's not CRAZY to say that Miguel > Frank Ocean but I personally disagree. 2. I appreciate his confidence and passion but no one asked. 3. I get that competition is a THING in hip hop but his comments ooze insecurity and desperation. 4. Why knock other artists unprovoked? Frank and Miguel make verrryyyy different music, despite both living in the R&B umbrella. Regardless who is better, Frank makes outstanding music and didn't say a peep about Miguel.
Miguel is a fantastic artist but his personality works against him.

I mean they both mouth off about some ridiculous s**t, so I don't know why Miguel is coming for him.
Personally, I've connected more with Ocean's music/messages than I have with anything Miguel has put out - I don't care how strongly he's been able to copy Prince.

Miguel is simply tired of the comparisons. He's absolutely right too. Both are self-serious egomaniac Scorpio men but at least one does the work. What does Frank do besides Hollywood hobnobbing and fight with people over VIP parking spots? Miguelito was also right when he said Frank's coming out overshadowed Channel Orange, an album that could never stand on its own merits. Sorry! Acclaim for Channel Orange was always strained--an album that sounded most of the time like the work of a Bryan Adams type filtered through an 'indie R&B' gauze.

He may just released a mediocre album, but his first two albums give him enough merit to boast what he said.

#2 with 39k per HITS. The chart will update again on Friday with 11-day numbers BUT this chart was finalized with sales registered Monday-Sunday.
All I Want Is You debuted at #109 with 11k but eventually peaked at #37 (424k to date).
Kaleidoscope Dream debuted at #3 with 71k but eventually peaked at #37 (535k to date).

Miguel is such a pressed sissy. I saw a statement earlier that said he was Frank Ocean's Keri Hilson.

As when the pawn... said, why throw shots if they're unprovoked? While I agree with Miguel that we ought not to compare apples to [channel] oranges, this rubs me the wrong way because 1.) there are artists who've accomplished more than Miguel both commercially and musically yet remain humble and 2.) Miguel's current album is my least favorite of his three BECAUSE, ironically, it's the bland, hookless brand of alt-R&B that instantly conjured memories of Frank's overrated set. So while (in the PAST!) I agree that Miguel's music's better, there's nicer ways to communicate confidence and these boasts don't apply to Wildheart anyway. I feel like he's trying to be the Kanye of the R&B world with those comments omg yes

l'm looking for the lies in Miguel's statement but I didn't find any. He's just tired of being compared to Frank musically (they do have similar personalities though)

lmao, what are these indignant responses here and elsewhere? The sacrosanct treatment of fake deep personified Frank Ocean, who put out a single album, is soooo weird to me! Neither but secretly Miguel.

Miguel makes it so hard to root for him. But until today's r&b scene gives me more from the male side, I'm stuck hoping for the best from his ass. (For the record, I don't disagree with him really, the comments were just uncalled for in general. There will always be comparisons; I would prefer Miguel to be confident/thick-skinned enough to not address them.) Miguel is such a pressed sissy. I saw a statement earlier that said he was Frank Ocean's Keri Hilson. lol. Not entirely accurate (on paper, Miguel is actually the one with more career notches under his belt so far, and he's the better singer/live performer too) but the attitude comparison is too spot on for me to not at least chuckle at that. Channel ORANGE wasn't bad but it was very backheavy and really needed to be chopped down by seven or eight tracks. The interludes added nothing, Pyramids needed to be split into two, and I could have done without a couple of the songs that are too forgettable for me to even bother naming right now. I want to say 'well maybe Wildheart's underperformance will humble Miguel a bit,' but the opening numbers aren't even drastically bad enough to call for embarrassment. I guess I'll have to wait on the project as a whole to flatline to see if it brings the pompadoured munchkin back down to the ground.

The whole Wildheart album and every thing he's been babbling about this year is fake deep to me.
I prefer Frank Ocean's music overall, but to each their own. Miguel is definitely one of the freshest out today and Kaleidoscope Dream was a masterpiece. There's nothing wrong with him (or anyone) preferring his work to Frank's. What's obnoxious and what's gotten people riled up is how he launched into this weird diatribe against Frank Ocean from nothing... Literally why did he say any of this? Because he was sick of comparisons? It was so hard to just ignore them and keep it moving? I don't really get the defense of him randomly attacking another artist for no reason just because you personally think said artist's work is overrated.

Fortunately, I have no problem tuning out artists' egotistical rantings and can focus on enjoying the music. Miguel has made one of my favorite albums of the year, thus far. Hell, it might even be my favorite but whatever. As stated earlier by several posters, I see no lies, as much as I love Channel Orange. Also, it's hard not to buy into your own hype when you are sitting pretty with outstanding critical acclaim.
