Artist: Luke Bryan Song: "Play It Again" (4th single from Crash My Party) [LISTEN HERE] (YouTube) Songwriters: Dallas Davidson and Ashley Gorley Impact Date: TBA (Capitol Nashville) Source:
I guess I'm used to songs taking months and months to peak, because it seems like "Drink A Beer" was JUST released. This was one of my favorites off the album and I see this flying up the charts and easily making the top 5.

This is decent. Far from the best on the album. Easy #1.

Would've preferred Roller Coaster, but I do like this song alright. He's so popular right now I'm not sure it'd matter what he put out, it'd catch like wildfire.

I think "Drink A Beer" is one of the best songs he has ever recorded, let alone released as a single.

Of all Luke's songs, Drink A Beer, is the worse to me and I usually like all his songs!!

Apparently Capitol Records doesn't think that "Drink A Beer" will be a multi-week #1 thus the rush job of getting a new song out. Seems like Capitol has not promoted singles very much either with Darius Rucker's "Radio" and Lady Antebellum's "Goodbye Town" falling far short than it was expected.

I said it in the upcoming singles thread, but this one is the standout smash from me on the album although I like Roller Coaster better. The "She was like oh my god this is my song" line is going to hit like wildfire. Totally expect this one to race up the charts and then hopefully we can get Roller Coaster and something else - probably Beer In the Headlights - to close to the era. I think they go 6 deep with how fast these singles are gonna go up the charts.

Luke merely said in a concert that this would be his next single. It is not being released yet, lol. As for the other 2 songs mentioned, "Radio" still hit #3 and "Goodbye Town" peaked at #11. That's 2 songs out of all Capitol releases that "fell far short than expected". Their batting average isn't quite 1.000, but it's close.

The female market that has fallen in love with his "assets" (see what I did there) is gonna eat this song up. As a guy I like it pretty well too though. 6 songs deep on this album is something I expect. The album is full of songs that could do well at radio. I wouldn't be shocked if Dirt Road Diary was released too (a little different but still bro-country enough to be a safe bet at radio).

What I kind of meant was who predetermines the singles that are going to be released, the singer, the record label, the fans, or all three? I felt like that "Radio" should have been #1 and "Goodbye Town" should have been Top 10 but I probably don't have control of what happened to these two songs on the chart. That is what I meant by falling far short of expectations.

This song doesn't really hold my interest. It has a decent enough melody and it's Luke so it's going to do just fine for him, but I find this really mediocre. And I'm actually one of the few on this board that likes quite a bit of his music.

I had to agree with that NY Times review! Luke is turning into a Taylor Swift performer. You might want to listen to them, but not watch their performances. If I had not ever experienced a Swift performance I might would have been a fan of hers and it's beginning to be that way with Luke. I love entertainment but not dramatics or showing out with a cockiness. His gyrating is a huge turn off to me as is Swift's head banging and her other dramas.
Can't comment on the song in question, because I haven't heard it yet. It won't be long though because my radio station jumps on a Luke song faster than lightning! One of the DJs at my station knows his Mother and omg, she calls in or they call her and pick her to death. She's a chain smoking, working class woman who just retired pretty recently. She kept on working even after Luke became really popular. She is rather comical.

I can't wait to start hearing this on the radio. This is the best single yet from Crash My Party imo. The chorus is just infectious -- I got gooesbumps just now when the first one kicked in -- and the melody is so strong. This will be another huge hit (and not only because it's sung by Luke Bryan).

...this sounds the exact same as everything else on radio, the lyrics mirror over half of the hits from the past 13 months, and it offers absolutely nothing new to the Luke Bryan catalog, which has gotten tremendously poor in the last 2 years.
Glad to see that some people are enjoying this. I'm sure it'll be another multi-week #1 for him.

I really enjoy this song in terms of melody and imagery of the lyrics as well as Luke's vocals. However, sometimes the parts where the girl "lights up" upon hearing the song are a little weird for me. For instance, it is almost as if she's having an awful time "sitting out under the stars" right up until she gets to hear the song. I know that's not what the writers were going for, but that's another way (for me) to interpret the lyrics.
Anyway, I can see this becoming a huge hit and a concert favorite with the ultimate sing-along line "Oh my God, this is my song".

With some people's warm response to this on here, I was expecting it to be a good song or at least catchy, but I was yet again, extremely disappointed by Mr. Bryan. It is in fact my favorite single from this album era though (but let's be honest, he set himself up with that one after the last 3 releases), but it is still nothing good in my opinion. This is a less catchy and less interesting version of "Drunk On You" essentially.

This song is already #25 on the iTunes country chart, and that's without any substantial airplay. And "That's My Kind Of Night" is still at #20.
PIA is selling better than current singles by Thompson Square, Randy Houser, Danielle Bradbery, Brad Paisley, Justin Moore, Hunter Hayes, Sara Evans, and Tim McGraw. That's just crazy!

I am still hoping he will release "I See You" before the album is done, that's my favorite song. I guess this is pretty good too.

I can't help but laugh a little at this point. The beginning verse and chorus of "Play It Again" is ridiculous to me. A guy sees a girl sitting on the back of the truck and they kiss and are falling in love in probably 10, 20 minutes tops. Don't get me wrong, I've seen relationships start up pretty quick where I grew up, but nothing quite like that. I don't despise this like "That's My Kind Of Night" or "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)", but it just feels so old by this point in terms of the subject.
I agree with those that feel this will be huge though. That opening line of the chorus to me IS the song. "Oh my God, this is my song" might end up being the favorite lyric of the spring and early summer for many country listeners out there. Overall I expect this to fly up the charts just as quick as "Drink A Beer" did. I just pray that "Roller Coaster", the only song on this album I truly love follows.

My issue with the believability of the lyrics is that we are expected to believe that this girl heard a song that she liked on the radio, and so she sat there all night waiting for it to come back on. Why didn't she just Shazam it and look it up on YouTube? (Oh, and even if she didn't do that, this is modern day country radio we're talking about...we all know that the song would have come back on in the next 75-90 minutes ;)).
I actually don't mind the song though. It wasn't my choice for the single (that would have been "We Run This Town"), but the melody of "Play It Again" is infectious. I have no doubt that it will shoot right to the top of the charts. Country radio loves playing songs about itself. I just wish that the lyrics weren't so contrived, but overall it's not bad.

That's not have I understand the lyrics. This is how I take it. This is just a hypothetical situation, FYI. You're 18 and you have a few weeks left of school before you graduate. You're driving your friends around town and soaking up the first few warms days of the spring. Your windows are down, you're with your four best friends and all of a sudden that one song you all love comes on. It doesn't matter that you all have it on your iPhones/iPods. It's on the radio right now and that is all that matters. You hear the first couple notes and everyone simultaneously screams, "THIS IS MY SONG!" That is how I take it. I don't take it as someone who doesn't know the song. They know it but they still love it and can still jam to it. And Sabre (sorry about Ryan Miller, btw) usually I agree with you but I don't think they mean falling in love like "I'm going to marry you" in love. It's like, you meet a girl and she's a 90s country music fan and loves hockey. Your initial thought is like, "OMG I can fall in love with this girl!"

Doesn't matter how many times you listen to a song on your device, it's always 100x better when it comes on the radio.

It takes me back to when I first started to listen to country and I would listen to the radio for hours to hear my favorite songs. This was of course before Spotify, Pandora, and probably YouTube and iTunes, but nothing has changed, I still freak out when my favorite song comes on. Like a lot of you have said I hope Roller Coaster follows this song. Still my favorite on the album. Then close out the album with Dirt Road Diaries.
