Erotica has always been one of my least favorite Madonna albums. Although it did give us one of her most beautiful, lush and timeless ballads RAIN. Deeper and Deeper was also a great dance track. Nothing else from the album really does anything for me.

P!nk has some really nice comments about the queen. Starts around 5 minute mark.

Funny how Billboard is celebrating the anniversary yet they ignored Butterfly last month and Erotica was not even a number one album.
The article is nice but nothing really new, those two mentioned tracks leaked a couple of years back. Fun stuff about Did You Do It?, you can blame her for the inclusion (I always liked it though).

The biggest piece of info I got from the i-D retrospective (the majority of which is in the Billboard one too) is that she recorded Rain and This Used To Be My Playground on the same day. That's kinda impressive, given how she's always compartmentalized the latter as completely separate from this album.

This Used To Be My Playground is so underrated, especially by Madonna herself. Ugh.

This Used To Be My Playground is so underrated, especially by Madonna herself. Ugh. YES! I agree! It's my favorite Madonna ballad! Such beautiful lyrics and excellent vocals! The melody and hook are A++ here. And it's associated with her best film and performance. I find this far superior to Take a Bow. I wonder if she will ever perform this in tour? I know she has never performed it in concert and it always gets left off gh collections BUT has Madonna actually ever said anything good or bad about the song?

Take a Bow isn't in contention for best ballad, imo. But Live to Tell is. I have such an emotional attachment to TUTBMP, cuz I was on the senior committee team in high school who were in charge of the slideshow for graduation, and the music to go along with it. I got them to agree on having TUTBMP for the opening number. It ended up turning out fantastic and fit quite appropriately with the pictures of the last 4 years. It was a great project to work on, and I took it pretty serious. Live to Tell is just a smidgen under TUTBMP, but both are Top 2 for sure. Then Oh Father.

That's cool! TUTBMP is a great song for graduation kind of things!
I agree LTT ranks highly with me also. I really never cared for TAB much, I only brought it up bc it is "technically" her biggest billboard hit. I really like Oh Father also. I also have a soft spot for Love Dont Live Here Anymore (i think that video is the most beautiful Madonna has ever looked).

I maintain that Erotica is not my favorite M album, but it was a very critical release, one I couldn't imagine her career without. it helped seal her legacy as the undisputed Shaker-upper of the System and someone who dared to veer from conventional, mainstream thought, especially for a pop artist.
Ms. Alecia Moore is a big fan of the Queen- remember that video of her as a kid performing "Oh Father"? When she said early on that she wanted to make the world "forget Madonna" and color it pink, it was the ultimate compliment, meaning it was that level that she wanted to reach.

I know she has never performed it in concert and it always gets left off gh collections BUT has Madonna actually ever said anything good or bad about the song? She was asked once why it wasn't included in any compilation and responded with an "ugh". On another, separate occasion she referred to it as the best example of an "assignment song". She's definitely not fond of it.

Well my other favorite song of Madonna's is Cherish and I know she called that one "retarded"....so i guess I won't be hearing my two favs in my lifetime! But who knows! She came back around to Like a Virgin. And I sure NEVER thought I would see the day Mariah would perform Someday again, so it could happen! Maybe they will do a 25yr League of Their Own reunion or something at some point. I would love to see the Rockford Peaches reunite!

Some of the League cast members have gotten together for various events over the years- but it would be highly surprising if M attended one of them.
When M was on Rosie O'Donnell's show in 1997, they played "Playground" as M came out and Rosie asked her if she knew what song it was.

It's awesome! What's your thoughts on TUTBMPG? This may sound silly....but are there any remixes of it out there?

The summer of TUTBMP was magical. A bridge between the Like a Prayer/Immaculate Collection era & Erotica. You really had to be there!

Ah I love Erotica. One of my favorite albums of hers. I cannot imagine how jarring it must have been to hear after LAP/Vogue though. Someone at her absolute pinnacle who is then clearly like cool... let's push shall we.

harvie- TUTBMP is lovely. I've always enjoyed it.
HEAD- yes. While she had been pushing buttons for years, the Erotica/Sex double whammy probably was too much for some.
Looks like TIC is $4.99 on iTunes- has it been that since Friday?

M needs something along the lines of Frozen for her next lead single. Something so stunning and different, but still with strong pop sensibilities, that it can't be ignored.

^That article was posted on the prior page. :)
Thanks to sale pricing at iTunes ($4.99), The Immaculate Collection re-entered Top Album Sales at No. 77*, and Catalog Album Sales at 11*- on the latter chart, it marks its 291st week in the sales top 50. Combined with its initial 141-week run on the album sales chart, that makes 432 combined weeks.

I was thinking about our girl's tours. While we can all agree she doesn't really have a stinker tour in the bunch, they each pull you in for various reasons. For me, in ranking her tours, I always look at the opening number and what blew me away from the start. Of course, as technology progressed, it enabled her to have more and more elaborate openings, so I took into consideration song choice, visual spectacle, and energy. As Madonna said in one of her 80s interviews about her tours, "You gotta have a great beginning, a great middle, and the best ending."
In my list, the last two were really pushed down based on song choice. I thought she could have chosen more well known faves to open the show. For #6, while it wasn't a big assault on the senses opening, it really set the tone of the show and the delivery was terrific.
So in just ranking her opening numbers, my list would be as follows:
1)Confessions Tour - Future Lovers 2)Reinvention Tour - Vogue 3)Blond Ambition - Express Yourself 4)The Girlie Show - Erotica 5)MDNA Tour - Girl Gone Wild 6)Drowned World Tour - Drowned World / Substitute for Love 7)Who's That Girl World Tour - Open Your Heart 8)The Virgin Tour - Dress You Up 9)Sticky and Sweet Tour - Candy Shoppe 10)Rebel Heart Tour - Iconic

I just came across this live performance of "Runaway Lover" from the Music promo tour when she visited London's Brixton Academy.

Cleveland.com ranked the current Rock Hall inductees (209 performers). www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2017/11/rock_roll_hall_of_fame_a_defin.html18. MadonnaYou could make the case Madonna is the most influential female artist of all time. Her creativity and ambition reinvented pop music for future performers of both genders. Madonna was also one of the key figures (along with Michael Jackson) in the MTV generation that would make visual storytelling nearly as important as the music it celebrated.

Second only to Aretha, not a bad place to be. Though sort of typical that the industry celebrates men way more than women.

Indeed- just look at the number of female inductees compared to male.
