Hi Dupe. Are you a licensed professional, by any chance? THANK YOU. I am so annoyed by people saying they "knew" she was bipolar. Oh, really? Did you sit with her in therapy for hours over a period of months while she openly discussed all of the issues she was facing? You don't get to see her doing various tv appearances and make a diagnosis about anything. I've been a die-hard stan since 1990 and while there were certainly times where I wondered if something was up with her, I definitely never assumed she was bipolar. Britney's behavior in 2007 gave us a lot more ammo (as we saw her way, way more than we've ever seen Mariah candidly) and I still never went as far as to diagnose her as bipolar. You don't look smart for alleging to have known something you never knew. Maybe "bipolar II disorder" wasn't obviously, but many of his had reasonable grounds to speculate something went on and was perhaps going on. 1. We knew that she has struggled with insomnia since at least the 90s. 2. She had some incidents in 2001 that can be seen as "manic" (but also other things). 3. We knew that in 2001 she had multiple visits to an in-patient psychiatric hospital. 4. She had fluctuations in both weight and demeanor/attitude that caused some to wonder if she was on medication. 5. Her brother said she had mental health issues. Not one of those things on its own means anything, per se, but those are all things that if you were around her should have caused suspicion. I deal with mental health issues in my job, and we are told to look for things in students like sleep issues, obvious changes in mood, etc. Having said that, of course no one should have made a diagnosis or acted like they "knew" the truth, but I agree it was obvious she was dealing with something. For all we know the people around her did say something. Or maybe they didn't. The main thing is that she now knows and accepts the diagnosis and is doing what she can to manage. Out of that hopefully more people are willing to seek help for themselves and/or people they know who are dealing with similar things.

I grew up with two bipolar siblings and a bipolar parent, so I have plenty of experience with it and I still wouldn’t say “I knew it!” (1 because I don’t know her personally, 2 I’m not a clinician, and 3 it’s tacky af, as if guessing someone’s mental illness correctly is some kind of contest to be won).

Who said anything about a contest ? We know that Stella was taking advantage of her condition while she was at the helm so saying her circle werent aware of her condition is not at all true. They knew perfectly well and used it to their advantage. Some fans have been claiming for years that there were things going on with Mariah, and they were always shot down by others who insisted she was fine and there was nothing to worry about. And now when it is revealed that Mariah has dealt with issues for years, and certain fans were able to see that from afar, you now have the nerve to call me tacky when all I ever wanted was for Mariah to get the help she CLEARLY needed. Sad yet predictable.

"My Life" is better, but they're both the musical equivalent of Microsoft Windows 95 clipart in terms of production.

I applaud her for coming forward with this. I doubt it was an easy decision but it was brave and honestly will help her personally. It sounds like she has been denying the diagnosis for some of the time. Not all these years since her diagnosis, but a good part it sounds like.
I'm hoping that her coming public with it helps her. I think that's why she did go public with it. She's been hiding it and maybe it's made things worse. I don't really think this was to counteract what any money hungry person would say. I think it was for her own self being. She's known of this for how long? 17 years and probably dealt with it for years before her diagnosis.

It explains Daydream's Grammy fight night and the wild bursts with Tommy. I'm sure Tommy's control and stressful behavior didn't help and probably set off her condition but if she wasn't prone to Bipolar in the first place, there may be a chance the two of them would still be married to this day. She fled to save her sanity. But was it her sanity that was getting in the way in the first place? She hasn't been able to have long lasting relationships at all. Be it family or friends. I remember when it was said that she kicked her long serving manager out of a moving car. The longest relationship I can gather is her and Trey Lorenz. I would love to hear what he has to say and how he has maintained himself on Mariah's good side all these years.

That isn’t exactly a fair assessment. We don’t know who she is friends with on a long term basis beyond what we see for ourselves which is a very small part of her life. She’s definitely still friends with Josephin, her roommate from the 80’s. You mentioned employees like Trey but there’s also Maryann who’s been with her since 1997. Same with Kris Buckle. Both of them have been very loyal to her and she to them. Then there’s Liron, who was first a fan and then they became friends over the years and they have been extremely close for years now. As for her family, we know the kind of people her brother and sister are but Mariah is so close with Alison’s son Shawn, Alison’s other son Michael always went to Aspen. Many of the people she has cut from her life were also present for years and maybe deserved to get cut if that’s what happened. Or else these long term employees left as a result of the arrival of the likes of Stella. So I don’t think it’s fair to say Mariah can’t sustain longterm relationships. It’s hard to trust people when you are a star of Mariah’s magnitude. We’ve seen what happens when she has trusted the wrong people.

How many superstars have a large group of long-term close friends? They say “It’s lonely at the top” for a reason.

The big question for me now is how medication (or lack of) affects her voice, breath control, etc?

How many people have a lot of people they stay friends with for 30 or more years? There’s also a difference in losing touch with someone and being on poor terms with someone.

They are primarily in her life because they are her employees. Same goes for Kris. Im not saying they arent friendly but they prob would not be in her life much unless they were on her books. And sorry but that whole Liron situation is just weird. Who hires some random fan off a website ? Also IMO her brother didnt do a lot wrong. He knew she needed help and was cut off so it maybe was his only way of reaching out to her. Pat is clearly out of her life. That is telling to me. Maybe his talking was finally the push that she needed to accept her problems. Mariah has been in denial for a long time and anyone who has tried to help her has been attacked. I remember many people pointing to her weight gain and loss cycle every few months as not being normal and definitely a sign that she was on medication or having other issues. But lambs used to try and shut anyone down with dumb comments about how Mariah has a right to enjoy her food, or Let the girl eat. Fans who expressed concern over her drinking were also attempted to be silenced with people claiming that Mariahs glasses are never empty and she doesnt have a drink issue. Its clear that all the yes people have just been blinded by their disturbing obsession to this woman and its clear that what Morgan said or what Damizza said in his interview way back in 2001 was 100 percent correct.

^ Again, people should be careful to ascribe every single detail of her life to her illness. People come in and out of peoples lives — who are we to really know what’s gone down in her relationships?
Mariah’s life has clearly been unstable since the beginning. The fact that she still has a friendship like Josephin says a lot, as does her ability to maintain her relationships with people like Trey, MaryAnn, and Kris. Sure, they’re technically employees, but they’re clearly Mich more than that at this point.
Plus, she still has a good relationship with Nick, who I’m sure has seen it all.
Let’s not be hasty and assume Mariah or her illness are responsible for everything that’s gone wrong in her life.

They met when she was in europe and the woman went to her show. Thats it. As i said if those people werent working for Mariah, they wouldnt see her. Nick is there because of the kids primarily.

I don’t think anyone can say who is and isn’t in her life other than those who have made it clear that she isn’t in their life, or those people she has made clear aren’t in her life. I don’t think there were too many people on here who haven’t shown concern over her behavior at times, but at the end of the day, it is her life and her job to own it and take care of it. Who can say what her life is like other than her? You can’t really know what her diet is like, how much she does drink, or medication she has or hasn’t been on? Mariah is very good at presenting a good face no matter the situation, so who know how bad or good a situation truly is or was for her.

Well, damn. Looks like you could write this damn memoir for Mariah herself, since you seemingly know the ins and outs of her life and relationships with other people.

You do know that Mariah isnt going to be the one actually writing the book right ? She will have a ghost writer. Also you should read the Damizza interview from 2001, its clearly pretty accurate what he said.
