She better get an album nomination! I don't think Mariah Carey deserves any Grammy nominations this time out. I was not impressed with her album and there are plenty more deserving artists out there who should be nominated this year.

I was rather impressed with her album and think it's one of the best R&B albums to be released in 2014. At the least, it's one of the few to be released that I can play from beginning to end without skipping a track due to disinterest.

She really deserves the album nom, and maybe even a win depending on who else is nominated, but she'll probably get paid dust.

At least nom for R&B album would be great. She hasn't been nominated since 2006 on any category, so it would be a nice change of pace.
Especially since this is her most acclaimed work upon release since the Butterfly album.

I think her best shots are for R&B Album, Traditional R&B and perhaps R&B Performance (in that order). If anything, "The Art of Letting Go" is the one I'm rooting for the most. I personally would have loved to see Make It Look Good for Traditional R&B, but I agree I think R&B categories are her best shot. If she got an AOY nod, I would be surprised because I think Beyonce is getting that slot for the R&B contender for AOY.

I'm here to share the wine! I mean, what Mimi stan doesn't like wine? If not you aren't a true stan. Cheers to Mariah and her happiness! Hope she does well with the award ceremonies in regards to the album because it's a very solid album!

"MILG" didn't have any promo whatsoever, so there was no chance it was getting pushed. Even if "TAOLG" tanked, she performed it several times and it had some exposure. I don't think it will get nominated, but it makes more sense to push it than an (admittedly great) album track from a flop album.

Guys, you NEED to watch this!!! This was her best "Emotions" performance in a long time! The whistles were killer and her chest voice sounds so good again. This video is just the best showcase of the improvement in her voice from that horrid first date. Mariah should've stayed and riffed, belted etc. with the band (her performance ends at the 3:22 mark).

She deserves any and all accolades for this masterpiece.

I really hope she gets at least a nom of some sort. Of all the pop albums released in the last year, Chanteuse is one of the few I keep coming back to. So many pop acts are releasing safe, generic music in hope of attaining hits. But Mariah's singing from an honest place that's translated into some really refreshing lyrics, melodies, and production. As a fan, I appreciate her generosity in being so genuine and vulnerable on record, and I think such work merits recognition.

You guys are setting yourself up for a huge disappointment. There are a lot of Mariah's work that needed to be nominated and won and Gramamys ignored them. Grammys is biased and will always be biased on Mariah. Emancipation should have won more awards, and even those that she won were not broadcasted. So no, I doubt she will be nominated at all.

Yeah, with Mariah, her nominations have always lined up with commercial success (and that's just the nominations, not wins).

if she wasn't nominated with "butterfly" the album then they won't probably nominate her for anything else. they rather nominate Katy Perry for VOCAL categories or Rihanna

This has been explained several times but the Vocal category at the Grammys has nothing to do with how well the singer sings.

Mariah always put her soul in her albums and use her emotions as an form of art, but she doesn't get credit for that. how Rihanna gets an best album grammy for that unapologetic record or Loud gets album of the year nomination it's beyond me

I'm not expecting her to win or even be nominated necessarily. I just think she's deserving because she puts so much more energy into her work than so many other "artists" who let labels, songwriters, and producers do all the work, then tout their albums as "personal" just because they nabbed a couple writing credits for royalties. Not that there's anything wrong with artists who don't write their own material. It's just a lot less believable when you listen to a song that literally any other act could have recorded. Mariah's records are different. "Cry." isn't just your average break-up ballad; it's clearly autobiographical. Even smash-worthy songs like "Thirsty" and "You Don't Know What To Do" come from a place that is uniquely her, and that is far too rare in today's musical landscape.

It sucks that Thirsty was never given a chance. It could have at least been a moderate hit on Rhythmic.

It sucks that Thirsty this whole project was never given a chance. It could have at least been a moderate success hit on Rhythmic. Fixed.

Amazing??? She sounds like one of the drunken fans at her shows doing Karaoke. I'd rather her not sing her old material if she's gonna do it like that.

This has been explained several times but the Vocal category at the Grammys has nothing to do with how well the singer sings. For the longest time the categories were titled "Vocal Performance." So, that does imply the quality of the vocal was to be considered. Clearly that didn't always happen, but in terms of how they named it, it was supposed to be considered. Since the combining of males and females and the name change, the category names no longer mention "performance."

I feel like the term "performance" was just used in the true sense of the word, with no indicator of talent involved.

I loved the extended part at the end of "Emotions" with the Funkadelic interpolation (when she was presumably backstage for a wardrobe change). So fun and full of energy! I wish she'd re-arrange the song even more if she's going to sing it now (other than just bringing the key down a notch). I don't think she sounds bad, but I don't think her vocals shine best with a song like "Emotions" that has a lot of quick register changes. The fans go nuts when she starts ad-libbing, improvising, and riffing. She should incorporate more of that into her performances instead of trying to stay so tried and true to the album versions. We get little teases of that here and there, but I think her shows would be even more enjoyable at this point if she weren't so concerned with sticking close to the originals.

The good news is that her vocals are improving just in time for holiday performances if she is planning any this year.

I still stand that those songs while they don't deserve a Grammy, the album as a whole was in fact on of the best R&B albums and deserves at bare minimum a nom. She better get an album nomination! I don't think Mariah Carey deserves any Grammy nominations this time out. I was not impressed with her album and there are plenty more deserving artists out there who should be nominated this year. actually nevermind , the legendary Get2nomey changed my mind. I'm glad that you think you deserve a opportunity to still express your thoughts to us.
