I've been listening to this so much the past few days:
I'm usually one of those fans who live for the big Mariah vocals--belting, vibrato, long notes, the whole nine yards, but after MCIIY and MIAM delivered so much on that front, I wouldn't mind if the new album was rather subdued vocally for the most part. I don't mean Charmbracelet whisperfest, hell naw; more like, a lot of head voice, falsetto, her sultry lower register...those kind of vocals. Unless her voice gets so powerful by the end of the Chanteuse tour, that she wants to take advantage of that in the studio. Idk. Plus, another thing- I wouldn't mind a few R&B jams in that retro 90's vibe. Smooth, lush and seductive...
(Sidenote, I know it's technically too early to listen to Christmas music, but her take on that song isn't even that Christmass-y. lol)

I will need to listen to that full concert so I can FINALLY hear Cry. Maybe THEN I will be satisfied. Edit: I should have known that she would not sing that song live. Ugh. Whatever. In the concert I posted? I heard some noticeably different notes than the album version?

I know other threads claim to own Xmas Queen but i live here on earth where opinions without facts are meaningless. Let the holiday dominance continue! 1994- End of Time. #BornIsTheQueen her vocals are just so sublime on Christmas songs and her lush vocal arrangements and feelings of joy just usher in the holiday season. Don't fight it embrace it!

Jenglisbe, I remember loving that second quote you posted way back in the day...but seeing it now, I dont really like the 'ugly can't get pretty' part. I feel like Mariah's less touched up beauty of the debut and emotions eras is something I appreciate more than the look she took on in, for example, the Rainbow Glitter and Chambracelet eras. I loved her curly mixed girl hair and her small frame.
To each their own I guess.

"Thirsty" is decent, but it really sticks out on the album for me in that it sounds a lot more modern/current than most of the songs on the album. It's really noticeable considering it's placed between the Motown throwback "#Beautiful" and the retro "Make It Look Good." That is the only part of the tracklist I'd change.
The MIAM songs I have on repeat are: "Cry." "Faded" "Dedicated" "#Beautiful" "Make It Look Good" "You Don't Know What To Do" "Supernatural" "Camouflage"

^^^^ Yassss for the "Charmbracelet" shout out!! That album is a gem! It was actually the "Through The Rain" single. I guess it's that gone from Mariah's memory.... "That's one of my friend's favorites." Lol. She did it again.

I think if Mariah would've held off on releasing the new album and TOURED first she would've had much bigger sales and a better era. (Like Beyonce did after superbowl and before she dropped her CD). That way once MC released the album all the news outlets would've had her fresh in their minds and she would've have created all types of good will. She could've even featured a few songs on the tour, nothing that would give it all away but at least #B, and Meteorite. It sounds backwards but these days things are the opposite way they used to be. It would've also erased all the negative American Idol vibes. Then once the tour was over she could've released the album through Lyor Cohen and Kevin Lile's outside the box label 300. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/300_Entertainment

I love the way she loves her fans. Other artists should take note. You can tell she genuinely does it because she enjoys it not begrudgingly. UGH. I'm with Coco...I would sell my friend's first born to even be in the same room as her. I have made eye contact and have her bend down and flutter her hand at me. It was surreal.

I don't know how she does it, if that was me, I would flipped my ponytail and kept on walking. But that is the difference between me and her, I'm a flash in the pan who wants to be her and has no foundation underneath me and she is a divine legend. No fucking comparison!

Joseph Kahn @josephkahn · 5h 5 hours ago Instead of plastic surgery everyone take a tip from Mariah: have lighting guy walk around with a key light in front of you everywhere.
