I like this song, and he's definitely one of my favorite male voices right now. I'm too excited for the album.

About three years ago now, .indulgecountry recommended I check David out. I did, and I did like his voice and the two songs I heard, but I also did not care that much. My loss, holy. "Whatever She's Got" has been stuck in my head for weeks, and I went ahead and got the album because you can never go wrong with Little Big Town and Lee Ann Womack features. I like this song, though not nearly as much as "Whatever She's Got," and I sure hope this album does wonders for him like rsmatto thinks it could.

This album has jumped to #1 for me for 2014. 1) David Nail - I'm a Fire 2) Eric Church - The Outsiders 3) Eli Young Band - 10,000 Towns

No surprise. This album is awesome! But only 11 songs and I want to hear more! The Secret is definitely the standout ballad on this one.

Do you guys think he'll ever reach that A-list of male artists in country music? He has the greatest voice and puts out great music, I just don't hear anything on the album that would be a huge song for him (not because of quality).

I think "Kiss You Tonight" is a crucial single for David. His first two smashes in "Red Light" and "Let It Rain" only managed a semi-hit ("Turning Home") and a flop (The Sound Of A Million Dreams"). For David to reach that A level star status and maintain his momentum, "Kiss You Tonight" to me has to come close to the success of "Whatever She's Got". His album is fantastic, but as we saw with his previous album, if you're second single doesn't live up to the expectations, that I'm sure his label set out for with "Turning Home" and to a greater extent "Million Dreams"; he might be back to square one and might have to move on to another project. I'm A Fire is just to damn good to have that happen to him this time. Personally I do think "Kiss You Tonight" will succeed and reach the top 10 if not top 5, but I am a little nervous about this song. Especially on the brink of summertime.

Funny how "Whatever She's Got" has been a major hit for Nail, but with the timing of the album it almost seems like "Kiss You Tonight" should've been released first. Of course this is only based on the seasons (WSG being better for summer and KYT for winter...though I think WSG was released late last summer right?), I firmly believe WSG was the best choice for lead single off the album.

I'm not following the highlighted part? Reading it back, it is a bit confusing. I'm saying it's funny how WSG has been one of Nail's biggest hits and has him with a pretty large level of popularity with casual country fans (a lot of people I know love that song and have never heard another song by him), but with the summer coming it might have been better for WSG to have been released at the beginning of summer with it's themes and KYT towards the end of summer, like when WSG was released. Hope that clears things up for you...I'm a verbal person, I'm a "call me, don't text me" kinda guy, which translates to confusion when I put my thoughts into text lol.

"Whatever She's Got" was released to radio on May 28th of 2013 though. I think it's important to keep in mind that all, and I mean all of David's singles move painfully slow up the charts. "Whatever She's Got" spent nearly 40 weeks on the charts. "Let It Rain" spent roughly 50! weeks on the chart and "Red Light" spent over 40 weeks on the chart. Hell even "Turning Home" took forever just to be a top 20 single. I do see what you're saying though. "Kiss You Tonight" doesn't exactly scream summer friendly song but hopefully he can get himself back to back big hits for the first time.

I couldn't remembered when it was released, I forgot how long Nail's songs rise. Seems like it didn't get "popular" until after summer which is why I put it as a late summer release date. I'd love for this to be a big hit so we could see "Brand New Day" or "The Secret" get released. I think "The Secret" is a gamble and would need two successful songs before it to get released.

I like many think "The Secret" is a fantastic song, but even if he gets two successful singles in a row, I'd be shocked if MCA released it as a single at any point. "Countin' Cars", "Brand New Day", "Broke My Heart" and "When There Gone (Lyle County)" are the likely single options IMO.

I could see it being very polarizing one way or the other. Though none of the other four you mentioned would bother me if they got released (especially "Brand New Day or Countin' Cars").

Great song. Sounds a bit like a Mavericks song with a little James House thrown in.

I absolutely LOVE this song. I've always found David Nail to be somewhat overwrought in both his material and his singing style (I know I am super in the minority with this), and he was kinda not very nice once when I saw him in concert (and I tend to not be able to separate an artist's persona from their music - see also: Blake Shelton), but I previously really enjoyed "Red Light." But this song is just fantastic. I want to listen to it all the time.

I'm not trying to excuse your experience with the personality that goes along with the talent, but perhaps this article will provide insight into the reasoning behind the negative encounter that you mentioned. People - David Nail's 10 Year BattleWith myself being one of millions that have struggled with depression at one point or another, I can tell you that there are definitely days that you're more "on your game" than others. With public figures, regardless of the level of fame, I think sometimes it's hard for us as fans to separate the public facade from the private persona. With that said, these performers face some of the same personal struggles that we battle, but under a microscope since almost everything they do is fodder to the public. I found the article interesting when I read it earlier, and figured i could possibly offer some insight into your meeting with him in the past. I too, like the song, and hope it charges out of the gate a little stronger than some of his past material.

I've read it, and I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. I'm glad he's found a good place in life.
But that doesn't change the fact that I've found his previous singles to be overwrought and a bit over the top. So that, more than anything, has been why I've typically been largely indifferent to his body of work.

Wow where is this song on the daily mediabase? It's not even in the top 50 anymore :( Why can't David seem to score back to back hits? Maybe this'll climb slowly again like all his singles but it falling out of the top 50 is not a good sign.

I still have hope though that David can rebound because after all, this is the same artist who had the incredibly slow climbs of "Red Light", "Let It Rain" and "Whatever She's Got", but "Kiss You Tonight" should be moving quicker than it is. It seems like your asking for the world for this guy to have a fast moving single, or even getting back to back hits.

I thought the call out scores were good and it is selling reasonably well for its airplay (#80 country iTunes at this point)-strange. Hopefully just a temporary glitch for David

I'm disappointed to see this at the end of its road. I'm a very recent fan of David's, and as has been previously mentioned above David's album is probably one of the highlights of the year. From start to finish it is such a great album.

I'm disappointed to see this at the end of its road. I'm a very recent fan of David's, and as has been previously mentioned above David's album is probably one of the highlights of the year. From start to finish it is such a great album. This is definitely NOT at the end of its road. It's off to a slow start, but what song isn't? It's way too early to say this one is done. It just lost its bullet, sure, but it's only been on the chart for 7 weeks. And a 200k loss coupled with a loss of 46 spins is hardly an indicator that this is done. He's not a superstar. There are probably 5-10 artists who I would consider superstars, that will climb up the charts fast no matter what. But everybody else--probably 90% of the artists in Nashville--have to climb slower. That's just the way it is...they don't get almost-automatic top 20 rotation right out of the gate. It's a slow process, and David's current situation is no different than that of Love & Theft, Gloriana, Kacey Musgraves, Maggie Rose, Jon Pardi, Brothers Osborne, Easton Corbin, Parmalee, etc. It's simply way too early to say this is done, simply because it had one slightly negative week. This should make my case: the July 15, 2013, Billboard chart. At #46, in its 7th chart week, and without a bullet..."Whatever She's Got". On tonight's chart, at #45 in its 7th week, is "Kiss You Tonight", also without a bullet. I'm not saying KYT will do what WSG did, but a small loss in week #7 hardly means it's done.

^Thanks for the words of optimism. This week just didn't look good at all. This song and the rest of the album is just so amazing I would love nothing more than to see someone like David become the next superstar in country music a few years down the road. I'll breathe a sigh of relief :)
