I've heard mixed reviews for Dwight's new one but I've loved every one of his albums so I doubt I'd find this one weak, he's really consistent. Glad you liked it, I'll probably pick it up in the next two weeks or so. Steve Earle has always been hit or miss with me so I'm iffy on him usually but this one got good reviews and his last two albums were actually my two favorite from him so I'm hoping this one'll continue the streak! My one question to you is about The Lone Bellow's album. I liked the first one but didn't love it, found it a bit sleepy. Is this one an improvement? I have it high on my list because of the recommendations from others so far but if it's really similar to their first album I'll move it down my list a bit. Dwight's is short but definently really good, there really isn't a lot of "depth" per se on the album, but it's still a very enjoyable listen, especially if you're already a Dwight fan :) Steve Earle is a personal favorite of mine so I'm biased towards it admittedly, but I truly believe it to be a great work. Though I didn't really like "The Low Highway" so your view might be different. I've never personally heard the Lone Bellow's debut, but I have read from several critics (who didn't like their debut) that it was a huge step up. The harmonies, to me, are phenomenal and the songwriting is top notch. I would check out "Marietta", "Call To War", "Telluride" and "Heaven Don't Call Me Home" as those were my personal favs, and also showcase the diversity in sound on the album. I wish I could be more help on this, but this is the first year that I've explored most of the "underground/alt" section of country. Hope this helped :)

There's a thrift shop in my hometown called Bethesda's. They usually sell their CD's for $2. However, they had a recent 75% sale on all forms of media. So, I went a little crazy and bought 9 country CD's for a total of $4.50 when, all together, they would've totaled $18.
First, the one non-Bethesda purchase:
Brooks & Dunn - If You See Her
Now, the Bethesda purchases (7 out of 9 being tomatoes):
Reba Self-titled (1988) Sweet Sixteen
Julianne Hough - Self-titled
Martina McBride - Waking Up Laughing
Kathy Mattea - Walking Away A Winner
Pam Tillis - Sweetheart's Dance
Wynonna - New Day Dawning (includes the EP by the Judds called "Big Bang Boogie")
Vince Gill When I Call Your Name High Lonesome Sound

I bought Sonic Ranch by Whitey Morgan from Bandcamp this morning. Also In The Throes by John Moreland. I missed that one back when it was released and it seems to have gone out of print on CD (already have High on Tulsa Heat on CD). I'll be listening to these later today, as well as Hold My Beer by Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers. Basically first time ever listening to any of these guys.

^ I loved Burnin' Daylight. "Say Yes" remains one of my favorite songs of the 90's.
Shane McAnally, wow that brings back memories. "Are Your Eyes Still Blue" was great but I was never a huge fan of "Say Anything."

"Are Your Eyes Still Blue" was great but I was never a huge fan of "Say Anything." I've had the "Are Your Eyes Still Blue" single for years now and love it but always wanted the album, finally found it for less than $30 lol The Burnin' Daylight album I have it but it won't copy to my computer so It's just going to be a physical only...which is bad cause I almost only listen digitally. I suggest to check out the Keith Gattis album, it was really strong and I bought it on a whim. :) Also not for everybody but those who like the more rootsy sounds should definitely check out Rhiannon's album strong strong song selection!

I found John Anderson's "Solid Ground" and Mark Chesnutt's "Too Cold At Home" at a garage sale today for 50 cents each! Two very fine albums. Solid Ground is nearly as good Seminole Wind in my opinion. "Wish I Could Have Been There" and "Nashville Tears" are fantastic tunes. And "Money in the Bank" is, while silly, one of those tunes I can never not crank up and sing along to. Chesnutt's debut is really good too. The second half doesn't quite match the first, but those first five tracks are all stone-cold classics from the neotraditional era.

Just picked up two CD's at my local library. BR5-49 - Big Backyard Beat Show Mark Chesnutt - Wings I'm not familiar with that particular BR5-49 album (although I like what I've heard from them a lot), but that Chesnutt album is an unsung classic. Tracks like "As the Honky Tonk Turns", "Pride's Not Hard to Swallow", "I Think I Finally Broken Mine", and "I May Be a Fool" are just killer. It didn't have much chart success, but in terms of quality, it's close to being his best IMO.
