This is good. This is something I'd expect Jewel to sing. She even kind of sounds like Jewel.

This is really good, but I don't think it's going to be a big hit.

The song is nice, but I can't see it outperforming CRTFY.

Well, hopefully they learned from CRFTY and notice that they can't just put a song out there and expect it to become a hit on its own. Hype only goes so far, and this song would need to sell itself just based on the quality of the song, no gimmicks this time. This song will get some performances though, and its tied into the album release promo. I think this song has a shot. We'll see how radio responds to this...

We have to keep in mind that this will be much easier for Shakira to perform this on tv than CRTFY as this is a solo single.

The song is amazing and it seems to be getting a lot of praise and acclaim. I don't think it will translate to pop radio success though.
'Empire' would have been a great album title BTW.

I really like this song, it's just that I can't see it being a big hit. I'm already ready for Dare (La la la)

I don't see this song doing much of anything. I'm impressed Z100 wanted to touch it at all tbh.

Can they scrap this and release Dare (La La La) instead? I don't understand what they're thinking.

Can they scrap this and release Dare (La La La) instead? I don't understand what they're thinking. Dare sounds like a summer song and its tied to the world cup. "Empire" could take off similarity to "Wrecking Ball" & "Say Something." It doesn't need to be huge, just make some noise and hit the top 10, then she can move onto "Dare." People think "Empire" won't do much because they are thinking of CRTFY. That song had no promo, this one will, including a performance on the voice. It has a chance to take off. Its also definitely worth it to give it a chance because it would expose the general public to a new side of Shakira. "Dare" is what people expect from Shakira. It's the easy single for her. "Empire" could change the way the general public views Shakira. This is exactly what Shakira wants. A single that is not about dancing. Another reason to release this is that its getting an overwhelmingly positive response all over the net. I've never seen a Shakira song get such a strong early positive response. Its always mixed reviews for all her singles. If the song gets enough exposure, it most likely will take off, since people seem to be liking it. Read the comments on her youtube video, or anywhere on the net. youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYUrKOePLvsLast.fm: www.last.fm/music/Shakira/_/Empire

"Dare" is what people expect from Shakira. It's the easy single for her. Her only ballad hit on US mainstream radio is "Underneath Your Clothes". So I'm sure the average non-hispanic does not think of this as "easy Shakira".

"Empire" is more of a gamble, but a gamble that could pay off.

I like "Dare" a lot better but I'm sure with it being tied to the World Cup that it'll be release third over the summer, so I don't mind this going out first. It sounds like it could be a hit with the way some of the hits in the past year on CHR have been. It's also gotten a pretty good response so far, so I'm optimistic that it'll be a much bigger hit than CRTFY.

They plan on releasing several singles. Obviously plans can change. Empire, then Dare are obvious. But after that I'd release "You Don't Care About Me," then release "Medicine" on season 7 of The Voice. Those are the most likely singles, the only unknown is single #4. "You Don't Care About Me," "Chasing Shadows" and "Broken Record" would all make great 4th singles... maybe even "The One Thing." Most of the singles will have something special for promo: CRTFY = had Rhianna Empire = has season 6 of the voice Dare = has the world cup (summer is perfect for Dare) Single #4 = ? Medicine = has season 7 of the voiceSince you like country music alot, how do you think country radio would react to "Medicine?" The CMA's are on Nov 6, so that's perfect timing.

I like this but I don't see it doing much. That said it's a good choice until they release Dare which, worst case scenario, will be another Waka Waka (massive WW hit that the US more or less ignored).

If they have two flop singles in a row, what makes you think this album will make it until the summer? Lol
Chances of this flopping are high. It's no "Wrecking Ball." An ear candy mid tempo produced by Dr Luke with the hottest pop star of the moment naked in the video =/= an uneventful single by a singer who's already had one flop single this era, and hasn't had a hit single in the US since 2006. Shakira needs a hit, she doesn't need to "re-invent" her image. She did that with She Wolf. And she's done just fine by staying consistent for what, 20 years now? If people want something from her, why not give it to them? It might be tied to the World Cup, but Spring has sprung. It's the perfect opportunity to release an uptempo jam. Dare is gonna go to waste in the US if it's not released now.
I honestly don't see them releasing a third single here if this underperforms. And nobody really cares about the World Cup here anyway.

You're panicking a little too early, and you paint a picture of Shakira that isn't all that realistic. She hasn't had a big US hit in years, but her presence was felt with CRTFY. CRTFY wasn't a total loss. It went top 10 almost everywhere worldwide and in the US it stayed in the top 40 on iTunes for quite awhile. The video became a big viral hit. It almost took the record from "Wrecking Ball" and its currently the #2 video on VEVO still. It also made her rise to #1 on the social 50, she's currently #2 (Justin Beiber is #1, Miley Cyrus is #3). CRTFY also made Shakira the #1 person in all of facebook ( Rihanna is #2). Point being, the name recognition associated with "Shakira" is still pretty high at the moment. There's no reason to be sure this will flop, it might, it might not. It depends on the exposure the song gets. People seem to be liking it, if enough people know about it, it most likely will catch on. Shakira is also one of the top VEVO queens (she has 2.71B views on VEVO). The video will also give the song some attention. The video, The Voice performance and a little additional promo should push this song into the top 10 at least. She has the voice to promote the video and then perform the song. The song has plenty of potential. This isn't a CRTFY situation. She's not just going to put it out and hope it becomes a hit. It will have plenty of promo opportunities. But, I get what you're feeling. Till she has another big US radio hit, people will always be skeptical about a Shakira release. Or, we can all join Feim in a prayer circle, lol: vine.co/v/MbrwpI5jFW1

Definately not going to pull a WB or SS. This will have a chart run just like the song it tried to ape: Gorilla.
