There's no way Mercury will let this die after one bad update. Stranger things have happened (I've seen some weird chart runs over the past few years) but I think we need to give this another couple days to see how this rebounds.

I was hoping this would at least go top 30 or top 25, but it doesn't seem there's been much effort to promote it. An ACM or CMT Awards performance sure would have helped. No music video either, not even a live one. Hopefully it's at least a part of the CMT Crossroads set.

Well, up until this past week it had really been surging, with strong gains and chart moves for 3-4 weeks, so I wouldn't say that there's been little effort to promote it. Mercury has done great with her...radio is just showing its resistance once again, because this isn't about trucks and beer, nor is it aimed at the "bro" demographic. And we can't blame Mercury for her lack of awards show performances. The ACM, if I recall correctly, asked Kacey to perform but basically told her she could only play for 90 seconds max, and rumor has it that they wanted her to play her song "Stupid" and nothing else, since that is probably the most uptempo song on her album. With FGL and Luke and others getting multiple, full performances, Kacey said no, and I really can't blame her. And then of course she did play at the CMT Awards but heaven forbid if they gave her a slot to perform one of her own songs. The Alan Jackson tribute was great, don't get me wrong, but she needs to be given a chance to perform her own songs as well, in addition to tribute performances. Finally, I think I heard that they were going to do a video for this one, but I can't remember where I read/saw that. In any case, her team is probably hesitant to do one if radio doesn't get on board. Videos cost money so they might not want to put one out until/unless this hits.

I'm not blaming Mercury, I'm just saying an awards show performance would have helped the song. I still think it's ridiculous that the ACMs told her she could only have half a performance slot despite being one of the most nominated artists of the night, meanwhile Luke, FGL, and others got multiple full performances, as you said. I say good on Kacey for declining such a ridiculous offer. A live video can be done cheaply. Of course I'd like to see a full music video, but if that's too costly for a fourth single that may or may not become a moderate hit, then a live video would at least be something to put up on YouTube and generate a bit more interest in the song. Hopefully the song can hang on for a little while until some top 30 house cleaning occurs.

When you're a newcomer like Kasey and mainly an opening act I think it's much harder to do a live video. Even the shows she does headline, I am sure they're in a small setting so that could be another issue.

Even the shows she does headline, I am sure they're in a small setting so that could be another issue. Not necessarily. Smaller folk/Americana artists like The Lone Bellow and The Civil Wars have done wonderful live videos that have been successful. This is a more general comment about music videos than about Kacey, but I think most music video budgets are absolutely ridiculous. Some of the most fantastic music videos have been made very inexpensively. Kacey's own "Merry Go Round" video was homemade, yet it has gotten award nominations and over 2.5 million views on YouTube. You don't need a huge budget to make a great video.

I want Kacey's album certified Gold with the RIAA so badly!
Sales last week were at 422,000.

She's performing "The Trailer Song" on the Tonight Show tonight. Looks like Mercury is moving on. I don't see that song doing any better. It's a tongue-in-cheek traditional Country song, total opposite of what radio wants. I like different. Radio hates it. Go figure.

I know she performed it at the Opry, but I didn't listen to it and I don't know where it's from. Anyway, that's ridiculous. She should be performing KITY. Ugh.

I've heard this song a little bit more the past week. And while I'm not a Kacey fan at all and I don't even particularly like this song a lot, I find I am drawn to it. When driving in my car, I generally can pull in 6 different country radio stations and I am a never ending station surfer. This song always makes me stop. Every time. It's like some kind of huge breath of fresh mountain air after breathing in the putrid city factory smoke of "This is How We Roll" or "Get Me Some of That".

My station just put this song on their listener survey-not that it means anything beyond they will start to play it.
Although still haven't heard it yet.

It's a tongue-in-cheek traditional Country song, total opposite of what radio wants. I like different. Radio hates it. Go figure. Is "The Trailer Song" a song that didn't make the album or something? Yes. It's a song that she's often played in her live show over the last couple of years, even before "Merry Go 'Round" came out, and quite a few people were shocked that it didn't make the album, especially given that the album was named Same Trailer Different Park. Obviously that's from a lyric in MGR, but "The Trailer Song" would've fit nicely on the album, I think. But perhaps they were too enamored with "My House", another song that references a trailer, and didn't want to have too many 'trailer' songs on the album. Anyway, TTS seems to be a very popular one with her core fan-base so I imagine many of them would like to see it on an album or at least on iTunes. I'm not sure if this means the label will be pushing it out as a single, though. "Keep It To Yourself" is back to a positive bullet on Mediabase as of today.

Glad that "The Trailer Song" will be available for the fans that want it without sacrificing the momentum that this current single has going for it, since I really want to see KITY succeed. Still would've loved TTS as a future single though, but I guess it makes more sense considering it would've been a bit strange to make her second record which I assume will not also have a title associated with trailers.

Oh, thank you thank you! I missed it last night, don't watch the talk shows. She did great, sounded and looked good (and Jimmy seemed to really like it)- song seemed a tad slowed down from the recorded version. It hasn't bounded up on iTunes much (#71), although I haven't noticed the late night talk shows result in huge gains for most artists. Hoping the positive bullet persists and if it can make top 20 will leap up in sales- there is a ways to go. Interesting that Follow Your Arrow still has good sales- #45 on Country-higher than some songs on sale, with higher airplay, etc. Nice gift to the fans, releasing the Trailer Song on iTunes. Don't forget to set your DVRs for CMT Crossroads tonight!

Since this was a, "Web Exclusive," I think this was only shown on the web. That would explain it not rising much on iTunes. :)

Not sure, I attended a concert last evening where Kacey appeared opening for Alison Krauss and Union Station and Willie Nelson. The venue was actually pretty full for Kacey's set both in the pavilion and people out on the lawn. She got a great response. It may not have hurt I suppose that it was a beautiful Saturday night after a week of rain, and people wanted to be outdoors at something fun. The whole concert was very well done for all three acts with very good sound quality. Unlike another big name country act whose show I attended two days earlier at the same location

That Crossroads episode was fantastic. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, and holy crap at that "Merry Go Round" duet. I need that as an mp3. Both Kacey and Katy sound immaculate on it.

I can't remember the last time I watched a Crossroads, but I was thoroughly thrilled with that one. Kacey and Katy really sounded great together. I'm not particularly fond of Katy Perry, but I actually was quite impressed with her performance.
Also, watching Kacey on the stage, she reminded me a lot of a new-age Loretta Lynn. From her looks to her "controversial" song topics and the way she performs like an old-time country singer: Kacey doesn't move around much on stage like many of today's stars like Miranda and Carrie, but it works. I do hope she gets a little more charisma though the more she performs, at least with like facial emoting, as I don't feel like she needs to run around or anything like that.

I'm excited to see what touring with Katy will do for Kacey's stage presence - that seems to be the biggest criticism of her. I personally don't mind her more laid-back performing style, but I can see why others would want her to be a little "bigger" on stage. I think she'll get there as she continues performing more and learning from other artists.
PS - does anybody have a youtube/vimeo link for "The Trailer Song" and "Keep It To Yourself" from Jimmy Fallon? The videos on the NBC website won't work for me, and I can't find them on youtube.

Really enjoyed that! I've always liked Katy Perry and this pairing just reinforced that. She's hilarious and supportive and she actually made me appreciate Kacey's songs even more. As the both of them have said, beneath all the hooks and anthems and pop sounds of Katy, her songwriting actually has a lot of substance and emotion. Kacey's stage presence will improve with experience. She just looks uncomfortable onstage but she'll be comfortable over time. She already has the songs and the voice. The presence will just be a bonus.

I couldn't find it via link or searching the name; but when I searched Kacey Musgraves I found it that way Yeah Kacey tweeted that they're having technical issues. Some people can use the link, some find it under her name, some find it under the title of the song. Oh, iTunes. Bless.
