"Its been a really, really messed up week. Seven days of torture, seven days of bitter..."? Sorry, couldn't resist referencing one of my favorite pop songs of the same title. Interesting he went to just being called John King instead of The John King Band and the single was either switched or the title changed from "Tonight's The Night"

Interesting he went to just being called John King instead of The John King Band and the single was either switched or the title changed from "Tonight's The Night" I thought that was going to be the title too. Kerr said as much in that interview. It really isn't a big deal about the title of the song, but I've heard many refer to him as The John King Band. Even on my Sirius/XM unit, it appears just simply John King, yet the lady who talks after the songs over says "Tell us what you think about The John King Band's "Tonight Tonight". So I'm still a little confused if he's just a solo artist or a band. I'll go with what the daily play mpe says though.

Heard this for the first time the other day (on the Highway) and must say I really dig it.

"Its been a really, really messed up week. Seven days of torture, seven days of bitter..."? Argh, don't remind me of that song...

John King is a co-writer on this.
They dropped the band facade. John King was always the artist. They were gonna do a Zac Brown Band sort of thing but thought better of it.

Black River should be able to rock this one right up into the mid 50's .... woohoo ....

I actually like this song a lot. John King's got some talent...some of his other stuff is pretty solid.
I wish they would have left the title "Tonight Tonight"...but that's just me.

I think this song is just kind of awful. It's repetitive and his voice does nothing for me- I feel nothing when I listen to this song, aside from annoyance. Haven't heard this on the radio yet and don't wish to. I don't know if this guy has much talent or not, but this song sure isn't showcasing it well if he does.

Not a fan of this, either. I haven't heard anything else from this guy, but he's quite attractive and the vocal on this song leads me to believe there is promise there. But lyrically and musically this song couldn't be more basic and uninteresting if it tried, right down to the silliness of "Tonight Tonight" as a song title.

Saw this charging into the top 50 today with a triple digit bullet. So let me guess, Sam Hunt 2.0?

Some radio friends of mine in Nashville just can't stop raving about him. Black River has had John signed for quite a while and his radio tour did make quite the impression. Gordon Kerr who's the CEO of Black River has talked about how much they've been working for his debut single to be successful and are fully on board with him as an artist. I didn't see the 141 bullet on MB coming today but I'm not surprised at all that he's off to a good start at country radio.

I wasn't aware that this came out in April, so the Sam Hunt 2.0 thing I said earlier doesn't apply. It is nice seeing a more natural debut from a radio tour than a "free gift."

I love how every now and then we get an act that so quietly sneaks into the neighborhood of the Top 40 that I can't even find enough resources to build a Wikipedia article on them. First Matt Kennon, then Kelleigh Bannen, now this guy, Chase Bryant, and Chasin' Crazy.

The co-owner of Black River is Terry Pegula who owns the Sabres and he brought John to be a performing act that night. A couple of the Sabres like Marcus Foligno and Zemgus Girgensons even got to perform "Sweet Home Alabama" with him and his band that night.

Hearing this song for the first time right now. It's definitely not anything new, but I like his voice and the song isn't too bad. I thought Black River let their promo staff go however, so that's unfortunate and not sure how that's going to affect this song just yet. I wouldn't mind hearing a few more from this guy though.

You must be confusing Back River with RPM, Bigger Picture, or HitShop who have halted radio promotion. Earlier this year, their Director of Radio Promotion left but they'll be fine. Black River is an independent label but they have a good amount of resources to work with much like BBR. The biggest problem is they aren't a household name as of yet. So far "Tonight, Tonight" is doing pretty well thus far, especially with the heavy chart competition right now, so the fact this is on the doorstep of the top 40 on MB and has not really struggled yet is a testament to their promotion staff.

Ahh ok, yeah, got them confused... for some reason I could have sworn Black River let their promo staff go as well but that sounds about right sabre; thanks for the clarification.

I think that this might close to done. It's down 56 spins and over 300k in audience since Sunday, plus it's over 20 weeks old. Looking at John's chart run, he has spent 9 straight weeks in that #43-#39 range on MB and has not had many adds over the past month with none coming this week. I would like to think that Black River would try they're best to rectify this song since they are fully invested in him and have planned this single launch for a year now, but it's really going to take some work. I'll wait to see how this song performs over the next couple days but it's not looking good.

Now I'm 100% certain this is done. I just did a Rate The Music survey on John's next single release. The choices were.
"On Your Lips" "When You Let Your Hair Down" "Leaning My Way" "Heatwave"
I gave the slight edge to "Leaning My Way" but "Heatwave" really stands out to me and would also be another one I could see them going with; though the fact we're in the middle of Fall is not the greatest timing, though the song is about a girl but the imagery would work better in the summertime.
I just pray it isn't "On Your Lips". I did not like that one at all really and hope to God that's not the one they choose (I tried to make my comments clear to them but I doubt my opinion will matter in the grand scheme of things). ;)
