Congrats JJ!! Super stoked for this album! I need something huge like "Foolish Games". I love her, but her country stuff just doesn't do it for me.

I know how much you love her, jj, so congrats! Very happy for you! Her voice can move me the way few others can. I have always supported her. I even have her lullaby album. The only one I am missing is her second Christmas album. I agree that she is better live. I will never forget when she did a random show in a Boston train station a few years ago. She started off playing guitar on the subway and finally, arrived at the station and played an acoustic show. I'm glad she is going back to her roots but I like ALL her music. She is very versatile.

Emily is awesome, I got it from a friend who had purchased the Jupiter single years ago. So stoked for this new album!

Emily is one of my favorite Jewel songs. The lyrics are so beautiful. "I wanna call names, I wanna throw things around...but no bar can buy forgiveness, another round..." or something like that. I forgot where I knew that song from but then I remembered I bought the Jupiter CD single because I looooved the single version. I actually preferred the single version over the album version.

I love her, but her country stuff just doesn't do it for me. I liked Jewel well enough before she went country, but it wasn't until then that I was truly interested and the only Jewel records I own are her two country ones. Both are fantastic and I wish she'd stuck with that style tbqh. Country is far and away my favorite musical genre so I'm biased, but she put out some really great stuff on Perfectly Clear and Sweet and Wild (both fantastic albums) and the style suited her very well imo. Shame she got no love from country radio after her first single.

Congrats JJ, that's so awesome!
Jewel is truly a gifted songwriter, and I think, as OB said, her versatility in songwriting is undeniable. Pop, country, children's music, Christmas music...she can do it all. I'm very excited for this new project. :)

In terms of her pop albums, that's as close to country as she got before she released Perfectly Clear, and it's one of my all-time favorites.

I absolutely love celebrity autobiographies, so I'm beyond thrilled to read that she's releasing one around the time of the album. How the heck do I embed a tweet?? Only takes three steps, and you can read them here. Hope that helps!

07.02.2014 DEAR WORLD Dear World. It is infinitely strange to write those words, especially considering the personal nature of the topic, which is the purpose of my writing today. But the truth is I have lived my life in the public eye since I was nineteen. And while it is intimidating to live a life in the public, it has also been a privilege to make a living with my words, my thoughts, my feelings.
I remember being so frightened by the prospect of living a life in public when I first got signed to a label. I was a damaged and earnest child/folk singer, nothing like the slick and polished personas I saw on TV and in pop culture. I finally made my peace with it by committing to always being honest about who and what I was. I found safety and comfort in beating everyone to the punch, as it were, and allowing all my faults, short comings and insecurities to be as big a part of my story as were my aspirations for being the best musician and person I could be. I never used my art or public platform as propaganda to sell a perfect (false) version of myself to the public, and I am forever grateful for the acceptance and compassion I found in my fan base as I shared my deepest hurts and shames along side my moments of inspiration and truth. The result was that I let myself really be seen for the first time in my life, and in exchange I was accepted just as I was- flaws and all. I did not have to pretend, edit, or otherwise sell myself as something I was not. It was actually profoundly healing. I found camaraderie with my fans as we all began to foster an environment that allowed us to be honest about our flaws, hopes, dreams, fears and the fact that we all feel broken in some way and we are all striving to be the best version of ourselves we can be. It is a journey I am still on to this moment.
Which brings me to this highly personal announcement today. My husband, friend and partner of 16 years and I have decided to get a divorce.
Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together. For some time we have been engaged in a private and difficult, but thoughtful and tender undoing of ourselves. Allowing ourselves the time and space to redefine what we are to each other with love rather than malice.
We have been so aware that it is easiest to use the inertia of anger to leverage two souls apart who have been bound together by so much living. By a child. But we did not want anger to burn the ties that bound us. Instead we have chosen the much more difficult task of undoing ourselves stich by stich, and releasing each other with love so that we may take on our new form: dear friends and devoted co-parents of our beloved son Kase. We have no desire to damage ourselves and each other in the process. Who better than each other to bear witness to the heart ache of redefining our family? And who better as ally, while we learn to redraw ourselves in whatever new shape we find as separate people who are still striving to be the best versions of ourselves- as humans and as parents.
Oddly the very thing that Ty and I sought in coming together is the very thing we seek in separating. We both value growth. And growth became tragically and undeniably stifled as a couple, and we believe we can find it again in setting each other free. We truly believe we can find greater happiness apart than together, and this is why we are taking the enormous and heartbreaking step of divorce.
I share all this with you because I wanted you to hear it from us, instead of the tabloids. I also share it because I have learned in these 20 years of living my life honestly in front of you, to trust that you will all honor and have reverence for how difficult this journey is, and allow us our process as we not only grieve the loss of our marriage, but also as we recreate ourselves in the ashes- for from all death we trust a phoenix rises.
Lastly, a message from us both:
“Our dedication to our son is unwavering and we are both committed to being the best partners in raising our son. Due to the spirit in which we have gone about this separation, we trust we can remain dear friends who hold each other in high esteem, which is so important to us as parents- as we wish only what is best for our son.”
-Ty and Jewel
I want to lend a hearty note of solidarity to anyone reading this who may be struggling with similar issues in their own lives. Separating is a deeply difficult and personal decision. May you martial the courage to find whatever answer is best for you.
Blessings,
Jewel

Jewel said it should come out next year, March/April (Pieces of You turns 20 on February), along with her autobiography.

Billboard Interview - Jewel is interviewed about her new song, "Home To Me," for ReThinkHousing.org, and they discuss her upcoming album. I copied and pasted the interview below.
It's been almost 20 years since Jewel's iconic debut, Pieces of You, introduced the world to her singular talent. But the singer-songwriter hasn't forgotten her roots, and she's certainly never forgotten the struggles she endured while attempting to make her way in the world as an artist and human being.
So it's fitting that Jewel has teamed up with ReThink, an initiative asking Americans to rethink their perceptions of public housing. In addition to releasing "Home To Me," a free song that finds her reflecting on the importance of a real home (you can stream it below and download it for free at ReThinkHousing.org), Jewel spoke with Billboard about a variety of topics, both public and personal.
Jewel shares her thoughts on the misconceptions about public housing, her own experience with homelessness, why her upcoming album reminds her of her debut, and what she thinks about Miley Cyrus' formerly homeless VMAs date.
It's not uncommon for someone to claim people in public housing units are just "lazy" or "coasting by." Why do you think some people look at it that way?
It's a lack of education. People need to know how it happens and how it works. As a kid, my best friend in Anchorage grew up in the projects and I was over at her house all the time. They worked really hard, but her mom was a single mom, no education, trying to get herself back through school and cleaning hotel rooms in her spare time. It doesn't pay great. Try to get yourself through school supporting a child on that. So public hosuing provides a safe place for a lot of people to get back on their feet -- which a lot of families and parents do. A lot of people don't realize there are hard-working families who are one paycheck away from homelessness every month. If something goes wrong -- their car gets wrecked, their child is sick, an unforeseen payment comes up -- they're in serious trouble. These aren't lazy people.
What do you think the main misconceptions are about public housing?
We know that over 80 percent of Americans believe that our fellow citizens are entitled to safe, affordable housing. But over 50 percent don't want it in their neighborhood. There's a lot of stigma about who lives there. I think there are a lot of incorrect misconceptions about who lives in public housing -- that they get a free ride, which isn't the case. They pay rent, they pay their bills -- it's just controlled so that it's more affordable. There's 2.2 million in public housing now, but the need is even greater because the economic conditions we're in. In places like Washington, D.C., there's 80,000 people on a waiting list for 8,000 units. It's overwhelming. But some are really successful. Somewhere in Wisconsin they have one of the highest graduation rates, because they assure as part of public housing, you have to graduate high school and be involved. They have almost an 80 percent high school graduation rate, which is so far above the national average it's not even funny.
You've dealt with homelessness in your past, while living in San Diego. Did you feel stigmatized?
Certainly. I used to wash my hair in the public restrooms of Denny's and women would give me really filthy looks. Men were predatory. I can name example after example. I was turned away from so many places. You couldn't get a job because you're too young and you can't put down an address or P.O. Box. I remember one time I saved up money street singing for a manicure, which is a really funny thing to do. But I wanted to have a nice, cute, clean, girlie experience. So I found where you could get free food at happy hours -- I never drank, but I found out where you could get free wings and things like that at bars. So I saved my money and went in for the manicure, but they wouldn't see me. They turned me away.
How did "Home To Me" come about?
I based it on letters submitted to ReThink, people talking about why housing matters to them. People forget a house is more than what you're filling it with. I think we get so material focused when we do have so much money, that people forget what home provides: Safety, and a chance for education that you don't get otherwise.
Miley Cyrus recently brought a formerly homeless youth to the VMAs, and let him use her acceptance speech to give voice to the 1.7 homeless youth in America. What did you think of that?
That's awesome. Good for her. I didn't see it, but just from what you're telling me, I love to hear that. Most kids who are on the street are there because it's safer on the street than in their home. Again, there's a stigma that these are bad kids or something -- but no kid just wants to not be in their home, unless it's not safe. You're just condemned to making money illegally, because you're too young to make money legally. It's this awful loop in the system. They're vulnerable -- you can't get a job when you're 15, it's really hard. Very compromised.
"Home To Me" is a political song -- does that indicate the direction of your 2015 album?
This song is a throwback to Pieces of You, but it didn't influence my new album. I was already planning on making the new album a bookend to my first album.
How far are you into that album?
I have 30 songs, so I'm actually trying to decide if I'm going to do a double record or whittle it down to 14. It reminds me a lot of my first record. It's very raw and genre-less in the way that Pieces of You was. It has heavy folk influence but there's country and pop-rock influences as well. But my hope is to keep it raw and unproduced -- I'm not looking at radio, I'm not looking at singles, I'm not focusing on genre, I'm not focusing on a label. I'm going to go completely independent on it and release a record I love.
^^^ Personally I'm hoping for a double album!

A double album would be good. I have a feeling this might flop though, but obviously I think its more of a release for her hardcore fans as a treat for sticking with her since her debut.

Yes, Jewel yes. I love how this new album sounds and I would probably be ok with her just releasing all the songs and letting us decide what we like.
