Obviously the Beyonce hype is strong but I'm not sure Pretty Hurts could pull a Halo - Halo was a huge hit and PH stiffed. I think DIL is the strongest candidate for a Beyonce single getting general field attention.
At this point in the year, it'd be absurd for Beyonce not to win. While SS's is absolute Grammy bait, it's simply not good or unique enough to win, IMO. I don't think the suggestion of Frozen getting an AOTY nomination is completely unrealistic but RME if it does. I know it's the only thing people have bought in 2014 and I'm all for impact figuring into the Grammy nominations/wins but this is an award show that is supposed to reward the best music of the year. And even though it has sold more than 1 million more copies than Beyonce, Bey made more impact with better music and an iconic rollout.
Wouldn't shock me to see Fancy get in for ROTY either, but I'm trying to will it being left out. Taylor's is a good option. And Adele's lead single if it comes out in time. Kanye's single could be a possibility if he's leaning more mainstream this time - he isn't in his 04-07 Grammy prime but AOTL did get a SOTY nomination.

I really don't see anything getting AOTY but Beyonce. It'd be the perfect crescendo to a perfect era.
Drunk in Love WILL get a general field nomination IMO.
I hope Sam Smith pulls a win for Record of the Year

And "Chandelier", hopefully. Her performance alone would make the Grammies something to look forward to in 2015.

As of now, I smell Happy, Stay With Me, Chandelier and All of Me as ROTY strong contenders.

Is All of Me even eligible? It was originally released in August of 2013

I think that if the track was not entered last year (this I don't really know) it could be entered, since Tracks from a previous year's album may be entered "provided the track was not entered the previous year and provided the album did not win a GRAMMY." The album was nominated but didn't win, so I guess it could be entered.
It's very complicated. LOL

The fact that Rihanna's "We Found Love" was released in September of 2011 is what cost it the nomination for Record Of The Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards (it only won Best Short Form Video because the video was released after the 2011 deadline).

So if Sia is nominated for a shit ton of award for her albums/Chandelier, do you think she'll actually show up? Or will a sock puppet with a wig accept her awards for her?

Ever since Shelby Lynne won BNA and the ever changing rules, nominations and wins are inexplixable and as I said, sometimes hyperconfusing. LOL

The Grammy's have a history of strange nominations/winners. Jethro Tull's Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album, anybody?

The strict rule is for an albun which already won a grammy album of the year. For the following year, any song (which wasn't nominated yet for the previous Grammy) from that album can be nominated only for Record Of The Year, but not song nomination. Only a live version is allowed to enter solo/duo/group nomination. (Remember Adele's Set Fire To The Rain)

www.billboard.com/articles/news/6244166/u2-songs-of-innocence-excluded-from-next-grammys?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=biz_breakingnews&utm_campaign=Breaking%20News U2's 'Songs of Innocence' Not Eligible For Next GrammysBy Keith Caulfield, Andrew Hampp and Colin Stutz | September 09, 2014 7:54 PM EDT The iTunes-exclusive album's 'commercial' release date misses the 57th Grammy Awards' Sept. 30 eligibility period deadline. Despite the introduction at Tuesday's iPhone unveiling as the most Grammy Award-winning band in history, U2's surprise album Songs of Innocence will not be eligible for the next Grammy Awards. That's because even though U2's new set is now available as a free download to iTunes Store account holders and for streaming on Beats Music, just as its Billboard chart debut is postponed to the official Oct. 14 commercial release date so too is its Grammy eligibility. And with the 57th Grammy Awards' eligibility period closing Sept. 30, Songs of Innocence misses that deadline and will have to wait until next year's Grammy Awards. "The album must be commercially available in order for it to be eligible, and the official release date determines its eligibility in a particular awards year," a Grammys rep told Billboard. "In this case, the album is commercially available on Oct. 14, 2014, so it will be eligible for consideration for the 58th Grammy Awards." Those deadline terms apply to all entries. The source explained, "All entries -- singles, tracks, albums -- must be commercially released, nationally distributed and available from any date within the eligibility period." With iTunes' exclusive rights to the release for more than a month, U2 has received an undisclosed sum as part of the deal and two sources familiar with deal terms told Billboard that Apple will spend in excess of $100 million on an ad campaign supporting the project that will include lead single "The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)." A source close to the band reached by Billboard Tuesday was unaware of the Grammy detail, and hoped to start a dialogue with the Academy on Wednesday. "We’re celebrating this moment, and tomorrow we’ll figure out what this means," said the source. "Invisible," another single the band released earlier this year as part of a Super Bowl campaign with Bank of America and (RED), would technically be eligible for Grammy consideration, however.

U2 could always release a vinyl version of the album and throw them for a curveball, anyway.

Or push up the widespread digital release to the 30th (thus within the eligibility window, and by its fourth week, most of the iTunes downloads will probably have been redeemed, yeah?), then leave 10/14 for the physical release sort of like BEYONCE.

U2 could always release a vinyl version of the album and throw them for a curveball, anyway. It'll probably beat Jack White's record for most vinyls sold in opening week.

(8/19a) I wonder if submissions are way down, or if there are a lot of submissions in this second round. Going from 22k to 13k is a big drop. Anyway, I think the contenders in the big categories are: Album of the YearBeyonce Frozen soundtrack Sam Smith The Black Keys Coldplay Eminem Miranda Lambert Katy Perry Jack White Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga Sia (maybe the Sara Bareilles of this year?) Record of the Year"Happy" - Pharrell Williams "Stay With Me" - Sam Smith "All of Me" - John Legend (if eligible) "Dark Horse" - Katy Perry f/ Juicy J "Chandelier" - Sia "The Monster" - Eminem & Rihanna "Fancy" - Iggy Azalea "Counting Stars" - OneRepublic "Drunk In Love" - Beyonce f/ Jay-Z Song of the Year"Let It Go" - Frozen"Stay With Me" - Sam Smith "Say Something" - A Great Big World "Happy" - Pharrell Williams "All of Me" - John Legend (if eligible) "Counting Stars" - OneRepublic "Team" - Lorde (if eligible) "A Sky Full of Stars" - Coldplay "Chandelier" - Sia I see Beyonce as the front-runner in Album, but none of the singles off the album had the impact of her past Record nominees. I don't see her getting in Album, Record, and Song.

I think Billboard might be a bit premature with that article saying U2 is not eligible.

Surely Lana Del Rey is a frontrunner in this category, in my opinion only Jack White, Coldplay and Beyonce are more definite in this category than Ultraviolence. 10 days left till the cutoff date...

When makes people so confident about del Rey when she didn't get any nominations for her last album? She didn't get into New Artist. She doesn't seem to be someone NARAS has embraced to this point, so until I see evidence of them changing their mind, I don't feel confident predicting her.

Sam Smith will be the Adele of 2015 and sweep, and the Adele will be the Adele of 2016 and sweep everything. Pretty predictable... Especially since they're industry darlings now.

His album doesn't have anywhere near the critical acclaim of Adele's 21 album so I doubt it. I think Beyoncé's commercial and critical success does make her a frontrunner this time around.

Sam Smith seems a lock for New Arist, and I could see him winning Record or Song, but no way he will "sweep." I can't see him winning Album.

I can't see Sam Smith coming close to winning Album of the Year. I'd don't think he'll even get nominated. My money is on Hozier pulling out the win over Beyonce, as long as his album technically ships by 9/30/14. It is a very impressive album, and will be creating a huge buzz in the coming months.
Similarly, I'm guessing Take Me To Church could win Record of the Year.
Song of the Year noms probably go to Let it Go, Happy, All of Me, Chandelier, Stay with Me and possibly dark horse Riptide.
Wouldn't count out a surprise nomination for Vance Joy for Best New Artist. His recently released debut album is fantastic, with a huge and catchy lead single. Best New Artist is probably Ariana's to lose, though.
