It's completely unnatural. The reason songs move up the charts is base on call-out scores, listener feedback, and song quality (though that is clearly becoming a non-factor lately). This "on the verge" thing is just Clear Channel making their stations PD's add and play the heck out of a song for no good reason other than they told them to because they have a deal with Dustin's label (BBR). And programming based on call-out scores is, to me, no different than this initiative. Or listening to what their consultants say. I may not like corporate programming on a local level but if we're going to have it, might as well have this, too. These charts are just a tool of what is getting played at radio. They're not really anything more than that. To me there has never been ANYTHING 'integrity'-based about the charts other than they're a cool tool to see what's 'popular' with RADIO stations, not with the audience listening to the radio (though that certainly is more reflective). This is why the so-called "Mongrel chart" is perhaps the more true view of what is 'popular' and what songs aren't. I'm not saying the chart is integrity based. In fact I agree with you about that. I would like to think it is, but that would be naive. This is not the same as listener feedback or call-out scores at all. I don't even like defending the call-out and market research aspect of country radio because it's flawed to me, but at the very least it takes into account listener feedback. This takes that out entirely. This to me makes the song quality or what makes a good single out of the equation. Basically CC decided ahead of time that it didn't matter how this tested or how many fans enjoyed "Where It's At". They already decided it would be a hit single and that most country fans would hear it ahead of many other songs on the charts that will unfortunately never be heard. That's another problem I have; it's pick and choosy. What about "Clockwork", "Us Again", "You Sound Good To Me", "Baby Come On With It", "Looking Back Now", "Famous", etc.? Those labels and artist probably are trying like heck to land this deal next month, while most will just have to live and die by each day with watching their song try and become a successful single. Unfortunately chart performance matters to labels and artists. The higher it goes up the singles charts, the more stations it lands on, therefore more people hear it, and if it gets successful enough the artists album will be released, and more revenue will come from that along with increasing single sales. The iheartradio's "On The Verge" is just an E-Z Pass for a single that doesn't take any fans feedback into account. It's just the label and CC cracking a deal behind the scenes that allows their song to bypass the normal chart run and instantly become a hit. I don't want to accept this as a fine practice just because it's corporate country radio and it's not going to get any better so why not have this too. That's like saying well I'm already eating unhealthy and my blood pressure is high, so I might as well eat some dessert with my dinner cause at least it will taste good. Improving my health?..nah, it's already too far gone anyway". Now obviously I'm comparing completely different things there, but to me accepting this because corporate country radio is already seedy is just giving up, or at least that's what it will be like to me. I'm not trying to change anybody's mind about this including yours Matt, but I can't help but feel disgusted when I hear of this.

I have a problem with the "on the verge" it if it's tied to $$$. That's payola plain and simple. If you can't buy your way into the program, then I don't really have a problem with it. Both choices are by relative newcomers on non-major labels (BBR is certainly a very strong label thanks to Aldean, but it still doesn't have the corporate backing of the majors), so I don't see that as a bad thing.

There's nothing that says anybody is paying for anything here. Only that songs were submitted and Clear Channel's programming gurus selected the songs they have for these first two initiatives. The initiatives like this are also likely tied to old school research and consultant info. They then pick the song and give it some extra spins. That doesn't mean that DL or Craig Campbell won't play some radio shows sponsored by Clear Channel but that's no different than any other artists who travel and play 'free' listener events.

This is shooting up the iTunes charts. It's the #5 country song and #31 all-genre song. I really didn't expect this to take off this quickly. I understand it's part of "On The Verge," but it's still only #33 on today's Mediabase update and already selling better than every song on the chart besides the monster songs from Brantley, FGL, and Luke, as well as Eric's.

Well, it was only sent to iTunes on Tuesday, so that's why it's flying up so quickly. In a week or two it'll probably fall back into the 20's/30's on the iTunes country chart before starting to climb again.

This is way different from the first album. I like how un-"bro" the lyrics are despite the modern production style. There were some "eh" songs on the debut and "She Cranks My Tractor" burned out ultra-fast, but this seems like it's got legs.

The chart of late has had very very few songs that have perked my interest, but this one has really been played a lot more lately on my local station and it is firmly stuck in my head in a good way. There is nothing special about the lyrics, but I'm hooked. Glad to see there are others drawn to the "yep yep" part as well. Not sure I will go out a buy it, but I definitely look for it when I am channel surfing.

Anyone else notice that this is now listed as "Where It's At (Yep, Yep)" on the chart?

Anyone else notice that this is now listed as "Where It's At (Yep, Yep)" on the chart? Yeah, I noticed it as well. I believe Matt had it that title from the get go on Roughstock when he reviewed it. I think I'll go ahead and change the title since I've seen it on multiple credited places.

I wasn't a big fan of any of Dustin's singles from his last album (especially that damn tractor song), but I absolutely love this one. So glad to see it doing so well!

I'm still not a fan of this song as I find the vocal delivery from Dustin to be uninteresting, and the production to be too hip/hoppy for country radio. But that stupid "Yep, Yep" has finally gotten stuck in my head, which I'm sure was the whole point of this song from the get go. This song came on the radio yesterday before parking at a grocery store and every single time I went for a new item to put in my basket, all I could think about was "Yep, Yep". Go for some apples (Yep, Yep). Get a bagel (Yep, Yep). Get some milk and a pop (Yep, Yep,). Grab a shampoo, cause I'm pretty sure I'm out (Yep, Yep). It wasn't until I finally got back in my car and got to hear another song on the radio that it started to leave my brain. Does this stupid song get stuck in your head?....Yep, Yep.

This song has actually grown on me a bit, although I do think Dustin's voice is much better suited for songs like "Cowboys And Angels" and "Hurricane". This just doesn't quite seem to 'fit' his vocal style. Still, it has more of a summer flare to it rather than a 'bro' flavor, and for that I am thankful. It sounds more like something that Joe Nichols or Randy Houser would've cut for their most recent albums. The lyrics are sub-par but they aren't terrible, and it doesn't objectify women or run through a bunch of 'backwoods' cliches. The chorus is a pretty good earworm but I think the lead-up to the chorus is a bit lacking. Also, I might be the only one who doesn't really notice the "yep, yep" part. I mean, I notice it I guess, but it doesn't really stand out to me any more than any other parts of this song. I hate that it's apparently included in the title now--not blaming you, sabre14 I just think it looks really stupid including it in the title so I hate that Broken Bow/Billboard apparently decided to make that official. I'd rather it just stay "Where It's At".

Met Dustin this past week at CMA Fest and saw him perform a few songs from the new album... He's definitely on to something here. I can't wait to see what's in store for him this year.

I just realized that Dustin has now his second top 10 single. His first was of course "Cowboys And Angels" in 2012. "Where It's At" climbs to #10 on Mediabase this week and most certainly will on Billboard as well with Jake and Tyler going recurrent. He of course had just a tad bit of help there with "On The Verge".

I find this one really growing on me. It's nothing substantial, pure fluff, but the key to fluff is to not make it grating. This one does that, easy to listen to.

There's two new songs for download on iTunes, they're called "Mind Reader" (Really Good) and "Your Daddy's Boots" (Pretty good also).

And the lyrics are subtly anti-bro-country — it ain't in the truck bed, it's wherever she is that's "where it's at (yep, yep)". I think the interesting production and Dustin's great pipes are what make this song pop.

Album is up for streaming on iTunes radio! It's definitely a very solid sophomore effort. I have grown to love Dustin so much over the past few months. One of the better male vocalists that are currently popular and I hope he continues to find success with this album.

Does anyone have a way to link to the iTunes radio channel for us to make a "Listening Party" thread? Or can you even do that?

I guess I'm just really late to getting around to this song, but after hearing it endlessly on radio I can for certain say this song isn't where its at for me. It's a shame because "Cowboys and Angels" was such a great song, and he's followed that with the dreaded "She Cranks My Tractor and this underwhelming tune. As I stated in a previous post I have no desire to ever hear this song again once it has run its course at radio. I for some reason think of Thomas Rhett when I hear this song and could have seen him recording this. I'm not sure if the powers that be at Broken Bow are partially to blame for the choices of Dustin's releases, but I was expecting much better from a voice as good as Dustin's.
