Frozen, look...
Nice for Shakira. It's a better opening than Loca.

#2 debut for Shakira would be good but I'd like the sales to be a bit higher. At 75K, she's going to debut lower than She Wolf which is her worst selling album worldwide. That can't make Roc Nation, Live Nation or RCA happy.

Where will Frozen be post-DVD-release week? Maintain at 200k? 150? 100?

I think those are solid sales for Shakira, all things considered.

That can't make Roc Nation, Live Nation or RCA happy. I don't think it's fair to compare 4th quarter sales in 2009 to 1st quarter sales in 2014, especially considering the precipitous drop in overall album sales since then. In my opinion, those numbers and its chart placement are actually pretty damn good.

#2 in the US is nice for Shakira, no matter what sales are.

Pretty good sales for Shakira, but I do wish they had a better lead single to open it. I love the second single, but can't imagine it being a hit either. Maybe they have just given up on her getting radio play, but the whole Rihanna feature seems to argue against that.

I don't think "Empire" is going to sell albums.

'Frozen' Likely to Chill for 8th Week at No. 1, Shakira Aiming for No. 2
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | March 26, 2014 9:18 PM EDT
The "Frozen" soundtrack should continue to loom large at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week -- securing its eighth week atop the list.
Industry sources suggest the album will easily outpace the likely No. 2 album, Shakira's new self-titled set, which was released on Tuesday, March 25. "Shakira" might sell around 70,000 to 75,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, March 30.
The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on April 2.
If "Frozen" rules for an eighth week, it will become only the fourth album in the last 10 years to spend at least eight weeks at No. 1. (Adele's "21" spent 24 weeks at No. 1 in 2011 and 2012, Taylor Swift's "Fearless" racked up 11 chart-topping weeks in 2008 and 2009, and Usher's "Confessions" ruled for nine frames in 2004.)
Assuming "Shakira" debuts at No. 2, it will mark the entertainer's highest-charting album yet, surpassing the No. 3 peak of 2001's "Laundry Service."
In total, Shakira has tallied four top 10 albums: "Laundry Service," "Fijacion Oral: Vol. 1" (No. 4 in 2005), "Oral Fixation Vol. 2" (No. 5 in 2005) and "Sale El Sol" (No. 7 in 2010).
Shakira's latest album was led by the single "Can't Remember To Forget You," featuring Rihanna. It has so far peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and at No. 23 on the Pop Songs airplay chart.
Johnny Cash's "Out Among the Stars" will likely follow Shakira with the next-highest new entry, with around 35,000 sales. The album consists of 12 recently rediscovered recordings from between 1981 and 1984.
Since his death in 2003, Cash has notched three top 10 albums: the greatest hits set "The Legend of Johnny Cash" (No. 5 in 2006), "American V: A Hundred Highways" (his second No. 1, in 2006) and "American VI: Ain't No Grave" (No. 3 in 2010).
Other albums heading for high debuts next week including Memphis May Fire's "Unconditional" (30,000 estimated) and Kari Jobe's "Majestic" (20,000 to 25,000).

By the way, do they also factor in Shakira's Starbucks sales into that estimation? Starbucks normally doesn't sell CD's, so HDD might not have factored that in.
Also worth mentioning, SW was released on black friday.

Starbucks sells albums year-round, but they keep an extremely limited selection. I don't think HDD includes them in projections, but I believe the Billboard Building Chart does? I could be wrong.

You are correct. Starbucks has been selling albmus for years! Wasn't Alanis Morrissette's GH a Starbucks exclusive?

It wasn't a greatest hits, it was an acoustic version of the "Jagged Little Pill" album.

Frozen is unstoppable! Shakira's sales are okay I guess. I would liked to see her debut at #1.

YOUR TOP 15: Frozen will spend its eighth non-consecutive week at #1 as the Disney soundtrack remains strong in the week following the DVD release. Next week, the soundtrack will likely have to concede the top spot to Capitol's 5 Seconds of Summer. The Aussie popsters' debut EP is expected to open in the 150k-200k range. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
Frozen (Walt Disney) 150-160k *Shakira (RCA/Sony Latin) 75-80k *Johnny Cash (Legacy) 45-50k *Memphis May Fire (Rise) 30-35k Pharrell Williams (Columbia) 24-27k Kari Jobe (Capitol) 21-23k YG (CTE/Def Jam/IDJ) 21-23k Lorde (Lava/Republic) 20-22k *Erica Campbell (eOne) 19-21k *Barry Manilow (Stiletto) 18-20k Rick Ross (Def Jam/IDJ) 17-19k Skrillex (Big Beat/Atlantic) 16-18k Divergent (Interscope) 15-17k Now 49 (NOW) 15-17k Aloe Blacc (XIX/Interscope) 15-17k
*Debuts
In a related story, meteorologists believe that 5 Seconds of Summer replacing Frozen at #1 could lead to sleet in the Midwest. (3/27p)

^ Kari Jobe is a debut, as well.
With these projections, Frozen will easily pass Luke Bryan's Crash My Party to become the #4 album released in 2013.

Disappointing #s for Shakira and ouch at Beyoncé selling <15k.
Lorde is doing really well. Pure Heroine will go multi-platinum.

Frozen be shifting those units.
If Shakira's numbers hold, that will be similar to the debut of alternating mentor Christina Aguilera's last album.

Shakira is in a unique situation in the US. Almost all pop stars focus on the US, then the rest of the world can follow along if they'd like. Shakira's focus often is outside the US. If she's ever going to have big numbers in the US she's going to need to be a constant presence here.
For Shakira those are solid numbers. Shakira. is her first #1 album on iTunes and #2 on billboard will be her highest charting album.
What I care about most is longevity. If she can get a big hit out of the album it will continue to sell well.
