He's certainly long past the pinnacle of his career, but I don't think he should "go away." He's still one of the few reliable male artists that'll release songs not relating to the current state of country music's infatuation with stereotypes assembled in every possible lyrical rhyming scheme known to mankind.

Idk, only one Brad Paisley song is head and shoulders above all the rest for me, and that's 'Online'.

Well it happened today. I started singing along to this song in my car. I still think Brad can do better, but at least it's better than his previous two singles. My biggest problems with this song are still overproduction and the fact it's much too short. I'm praying to the heavens he delivers another 5th gear or Time Well Wasted album.

I can think of several artists who could use a CD stocked with scintillating tunes on the level of 'Time Well Wasted', and so can a lot of the rest of us!!!!!

That was the same thing that Brad said about the tragedy that was "Wheelhouse." I won't believe it til I hear it either. And if it's not TWW or 5G quality, I'm not buying!

EVERY artist thinks their next album is their best ever. It's just the confidence required to be an artist. The problem they face is if they evolve (like Brad clearly has), they'll lose many of the fans that got 'em to the Dance anyway.

I like the intricate production here. The melody also sounds radically different from anything else he's done before. I also liked how different some of the melodies on Wheelhouse were. Something feels kinda early 90s about this with a modern edge.

Something feels kinda early 90s about this with a modern edge. I still think the production is overdone, but the melody and instrumentation are really good to me (better than some of his other fun songs recently like "Water". Though I actually enjoyed that one for the most part). The hook is good as well, though most of the lyrics have a been there, done that vibe. Overall I'm liking this one with each passing listen. I still want this song to be longer. Come on Brad, I'm not asking for a 1:30 outro. Just 30 extra seconds will do just fine.

Not a bad chart run so far: 29-31-23-20 Yep, and it was greatest gainer this week as well. It's already out-peaked "I Can't Change The World" (#22) and it'll easily blow past the peak of "The Mona Lisa" (#19). I could see this doing as well as "Southern Comfort Zone" and "Beat This Summer" did, but I think Brad is going to need some 'meatier' stuff on his album to really show that he's at the top of his game, and to show that he could still be a regular visitor to the top 10.

This one is kinda fun, and kinda fits with summer right around the corner. I'm actually kind of surprised my all the negative sentiments on this one, especially with the other choices on the radio right now. I understand expecting more from Brad, but it makes sense that he's going to try and cater to what's popular right now. Simply put, there are probably only a few artists who are going to release different sounding music on purpose regardless of if it's popular - Strait, Jackson, Corbin, Chris Young, and maybe Reba.

I never realized that Brad has been having issues with Sony. From tonight's Country Aircheck Weekly:
Am I understanding this correctly? Does the bolded part mean that Brad is asking to be let go of his recording contract with Sony?
The article does go on to say that Brad has released 5 albums with them since the audit began, but if the suit was revised and refiled recently, perhaps Brad is looking to leave the label..?

^ Perhaps that's an option that Brad is weighing right now with no final decision having been made.
But either way I had no idea there was this turmoil going on behind the scenes with Sony. Pretty odd timing for this to come to light with a brand new lead single being in it's infancy.

"Moonshine" sees Paisley adapting the modern technology of EDM and dubstep to the classic country formula."
I don't like the sound of that at all! Looks like I won't be buying this Paisley album either! Dubstep and classic Country mixed together makes as much sense as a Peanut Butter and Pickles sandwich!

I'm sure it's going to be a slight influence, and I think we even see it already on River Bank. I don't think he means Skrillex is going to be on the album and the beat is "Going to drop". I think they just plan on using similar technology being used to create more effects with the instrumentation, maybe add some to the intro's of songs. I doubt they're will be a full on mash up between the two genres.

I heard a DJ the other night who mentioned that the music video was coming very soon and he couldn't wait 'til it went public--he said he'd already seen it and was dying to talk about it, but he'd sworn to keep it his lips sealed until the video's official release. Just an interesting comment I thought I'd pass along.

Just an interesting comment I thought I'd pass along. Here you are: I actually prefer "River Bank" to last year's "Beat This Summer" (a similarly safe summer release) by a healthy margin. The latter was probably better-produced (the production effects on "River Bank" seem unnecessary), but the songwriting here is better-developed. A hook like "laughing all of the way to the river bank" is signature Paisley in a good way, and the hook is supported by other details in the song that build on the idea of not having much (at the bank) but having all that they need to enjoy the moment. The melody and Brad's delivery are jaunty and engaging, and all things considered, I find the song pretty likable despite it being a sign of Brad playing it safe in order to shore up his place in the current market. I agree with dm2081's assessment of the EDM/electronic comment in relation to Brad's new music. Brad is quoted in the Billboard article saying, "When you hear a banjo through stutter edit, it's the coolest thing you ever heard. I have a song that's a basic love song, it's got a great groove, and I cut this guitar part that gets distorted when I turn the nob up. I would say to Luke, 'Oh, that should've been done 20 years ago, but they couldn't,'" and the article goes on to say that "River Bank" is an example of his new approach. Like I said, I think the approach can be distracting, but on the other hand, I think it worked well enough on "Outstanding in Our Field" on Wheelhouse. I don't think there is any real risk of Brad trying to merge Nickelback with a hip-hop beat as Florida-Georgia Line has, or casting a dance-pop song as "country" as Jerrod Niemann has. From what Brad told Lon Helton, we are probably safe from any guest rapper appearances on his upcoming album, although Emmylou Harris will apparently show up for a collaboration, which sounds promising. I'll hang my hopes for the album on that prospect, because the degree to which Brad's other comments about his album have focused on fun/beer/partying suggest that he is taking a break from more adventurous and substantive topics for a cycle.

Cute video, and I just now realized that the chorus is a play on the phrase "laughing all the way to the bank." I'm not very bright.
