The first fifth single release of Blake Shelton's career. Hopefully, the #1 streak stays intact.

don't care for this song at all. kinda like "over" its just meh. would have rather he gone with "Ten times Crazier" or "Country on the radio" or even his version of "grandaddys gun" since aaron Lewis's version flopped. I think blakes version is def a #1

I'm shocked "Ten Times Crazier" won't be getting released. This ones is very "meh" to me.

This is really infectious. I can see the repetition of "come a little closer" gaining a lot of attention a la the "yep yep"s in Dustin Lynch's new song (which are nowhere near as catchy). This should definitely be a #1 single.

I'm shocked "Ten Times Crazier" won't be getting released. This ones is very "meh" to me. "Ten Times Crazier" is the meh song of the album that doesn't bother me. This one is unique and could be something really special. One of Blake's best releases in some time. But I guess I'm the odd one out on this board. I feel like the people who thought MWBY is good. Maybe Blake is just getting unwarranted hate? Or maybe I am seriously overrating this? Anything that will make "Medicine" not be heard again will be pleasant though. Well, actually, with this album, maybe not anything, but pretty close.

I actually loved "Mine Would Be You" and think it's one of his best ever, and actually enjoyed BRH and SBCIYD, so I dont hate him. I just feel this is a boring song.

Well, actually, with this album, maybe not anything, but pretty close. I don't think Blake is getting unwarranted hate. Perhaps some criticism for having his music be incredibly generic and vanilla lately. I know many people, some of whom are in my family even, that feel "Mine Would Be You", and "Sure Be Cool If You Did" are great songs. I think unlike some other's music now and days, it's not a "this music is just not good" critique, it's more of a "this music is nothing special" critique. Outside of this board, I feel like I'm the ugly duckling saying that Blake's recent music is boring and dull. Blake's music right now is the perfect example of whom you talk to, in terms of has his music quality been good or not? For me personally, "My Eyes" might be my least favorite single from this era so far. I just lose any kind of interest during this song. The weak melody coupled with the repetition of "come a little closer" are sleep inducing. I find nothing special with "My Eyes" in terms of melody, lyrical content, or overall sound. It just makes me wish Blake would end this era, so I can have a sliver of hope that he returns to his earlier material with his next project.

We'll see how well I did here. The last Warner Bros. CD to go five deep was Faith Hill's Fireflies CD. That quintet of singles were:
1. Mississippi Girl-2005-#1 2. Like We Never Loved At All-with Tim McGraw-2005-#5 3. The Lucky One-2006-#5 4. Sunshine And Summertime-2006-#7 5. Stealing Kisses-2006-#36

I love this choice! Blake's voice really fits songs about love or songs for a girl. Can't wait to hear this on the radio.

I'm not surprised at all, since all signs seemed to be pointing to this coming next, but I am disappointed. They had much better choices, but the ended up picking one of the blandest songs on the album. I have no doubt this is going top 5, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it miss #1. Then again, I could also see Blake's team working extra hard to get it there, since it would be the elusive fifth #1 from an album.
Since Fireflies was brought up, I have to say that I would so much rather that have been the album to get 5 #1s.

The story will be IF this DOESN'T hit #1. Given all the tempo party songs coming out, it makes sense to go with this instead of Ten Times Crazier, or any of the other songs.
On a side note, when did "meh" become an officially ok word to use in written form? I've seen it a lot, particularly with folks under 25. Couldn't you just say something else like "Boring" or "rubbish"? I mean I get it for chatspeak but perhaps it's just the 'word nerd' in me not wanting this apathetic phrase used in every day vocabulary.

When I google definition of meh this is what comes up: Expressing a lack of interest or enthusiasm. So it is an official word.

Well I don't use the word "meh" myself, but a word I know I've never used is "rubbish". If "meh" is a word that folks under the age of 25 use, then "rubbish" is a word that folks over the age of 55 use. ;)

It's used quite a bit there. I Funny how the Simpsons popularized "D'oh" and "meh"...

This is so generic IMO. I put this in category with over , god gave me you etc. i personally liked "lay low" but figured it would never be single. I'd much rather liked ten times crazier for summer. Hey at least it ain't bro lol

Hey at least it ain't bro lol There's an argument to be made that he hasn't released one "bro" song yet. Some would call "Boys Round Here" such a song but really, that's not Bro, it's actually making fun of Blake and his buddies who don't have much of a worldview.

I'd have to hear this from Blake's mouth before I believed that was the intent with "Boys 'Round Here". To me it definitely seems that the writers wrote that song with "hit" and "multi-platinum" in mind because it's exactly the type of sound/song that radio and consumers are eating up these days (and the writers know that). I think it comes across as a pretty funny song, but not as one with the intent of making fun of the people who live that type of lifestyle.

I think it comes across as a pretty funny song, but not as one with the intent of making fun of the people who live that type of lifestyle. I completely agree. Both Dallas Davidson and Blake describe the song as representative of who they are, without apology. Blake's tone in singing the song is one of smug self-satisfaction, and the proud provinciality of the track has always been at the core of the lyric and why I dislike the song as much as I do. Moreover, the second verse, which is about "girls" "shakin' their sugar" and how they just can't help falling for the "boys' round here," doesn't fit the interpretation that Blake is making fun of himself and his buddies. Anyway, back to the current single. One thing that Blake's ACM performance reminded me is how much I am not a fan of Scott Hendricks as a producer. "My Eyes" is supposed to be a soulful, sensual song, but Blake's studio vocal is so clinical that the song just doesn't register. There is a monotony to Blake's vocal and the underlying instrumentation that results in a detached, overly polished record. This is actually a problem on a lot of the ballads on Based on a True Story -- Blake has very heavy phrasing, and unlike someone like David Nail (who also has a powerful voice and heavy phrasing), he doesn't modulate his voice to better convey the lyrics. Blake's live performance on Sunday was better in the sense that his phrasing was a little more conversational and immediate, and you could feel a bit of the warmth of his vocal. But I have a strong feeling that someone like Chris Young would fare much better with the song. Even then, the lyrics are not terribly memorable outside of the hook. I'm surprised that this was chosen as the fifth single from Blake's album over something with more of a driving tempo, but since I'm not terribly keen on anything from the album, I wasn't invested in another choice.

This is a complete and utter snoozefest, and the vocal is as flat as the song.
No doubt this will be an instant station-changer for me.

Cute hook, great vocals, chorus is a bit repetitive but not annoyingly so. But is Gwen even on this? I can't hear her at all.
