I would love to see Meanwhile Back At Mama's hit #1 for a variety of reasons: 1. Tim McGraw would move to #10 on the all-time list of those with the most #1s. Poor Reba McEntire would get pushed to #11. 2. Faith Hill would also move up to #60 from #63. She would have #1s during the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s (like McGraw). 3. Hill would have top tens on three labels: Warner Bros., Curb, and Big Machine.

I hope the studio version sounds better than Tim sounded last night. I like Tim, but wow...that was rough.

Maybe in top 5 of songs he's ever recorded. Solid production and very traditional. I love it. Jaren Johnston must be getting filthy rich... Anyone notice how many songs he's cowritten lately? Singles and album cuts. It's crazy. I think he cowrote 3 or 4 songs on riser alone

Doesn't make a lot of sense why it says Featuring Faith Hill, yes she's on the song, but she's singing harmony and you can barely hear it, with Tim on lead vocal.. Of course, maybe this song will boost her career because over the past 9 years, since "Fireflies" she hasn't had anything new out and the last two singles released were very poor stalling in the top 30....hopefully a new record is out soon

It's no different than Blake Shelton's "My Eyes" featuring Gwen Sebastian.
As for this single's radio success, it hasn't even been officially sent there yet.

I immediately bought this song after hearing it on the ACM's, and I absolutely love the recorded version as well. It's such a refreshing sound from Tim, especially since we've been hearing lower quality stuff (imo) like Southern Girl and Looking For The Girl lately. I really hope this is an official single! Any word on that?

Does it have to go to radio to be considered a single on the board?

Does it have to go to radio to be considered a single on the board? Generally, that's the unwritten rule we follow, but with this song I am ok with leaving the thread open, since a) it's available for purchase, b) he performed it on the ACM's, c) it's likely to be on his upcoming album, and d) there's really no other place to discuss this specific song. We have a thread for "Lookin' For That Girl" of course, but I think it's fine to leave this one open for a while to see how this plays out.

It is officially the new single as reported above. Add Date is Monday.
Also, Tom Douglas and Jaren Johnston are the writers. Jeffrey Steele isn't a writer here.

In a perfect world Two Lanes of Freedom and Nashville Without You would've been singles over Truck Yeah and Southern Girl. :/
It was so weird loving THIS, but hearing Looking for that Girl for the first time on the radio today. Is it beginning to rise a lot faster? I just wish they'd put a fork in it like (gasp) Curb did IABDPWY for Southern Voice. I might not remember accurately, but I don't remember Pleasure free falling before Southern Voice was sent out. I always felt like they panicked and sent SV out immediately.
End rant, I just love Tim and wish he'd release the actual RIGHT singles from his albums. TLOF proved that WASN'T to blame on Curb.

ClevelandRox, as rsmatto stated a few posts above, Big Machine apparently has put a fork in LFTG and decided to release this to country radio, impacting Monday. Big Machine giving up on a single without putting up a massive fight to get it as high up the charts as possible? I'm shocked. "Lookin' for That Girl" was doing fine on the charts. Sales and research were also fine. It's pretty strange that they'd just pull the song like that.

Yeah it's very odd that BM would pull a single that look like another sure-fire #1 hit in the making the way it was rising. I guess there is a first time for everything from them.
4/14 is turning out to be quite the add day: Tim, Blake, Brad, Scotty, and Frankie!

The contrast in comments about LFTG on social media and in iTunes reviews compared to the comments about Meanwhile Back at Mama's is striking. I've never seen so many negative comments on Tim's Facebook page and I'm glad they didn't ignore it.

Not gonna lie, there's been so much hate for LFTG I didn't read the comments above me, I just replied with hearing that I heard it earlier and definitely prefer this. Last I read was LFTG was gaining suddenly, but I guess BM is listening to us! And thanks churchchoir for not being rude about my eff up. :)

Wow. In the beginning me along with many others wanted "Looking For That Girl" to die a miserable death on the charts so BMLG would pull the plug on it. But just as it's starting to make a chart run and just as we've conceited to it ever being pulled prematurely...what do ya know But I am really surprised that "Meanwhile Back At Mama's" is being shipped to radio. And being shipped so soon. It actually doesn't make a lot of sense business wise, especially with it's gains recently in audience and having surprisingly good call-out scores. Wonder why they actually decided to make a dream come true? Definitely made my Friday night. :) Thank God.

Yeah, business wise I don't get this at all. "Lookin' For That Girl" was actually doing quite well at the moment. But musical quality wise, this is a great move. The worst single of Tim's over the past few years followed by the best? I'll take it.

Yeah it's very odd that BM would pull a single that look like another sure-fire #1 hit in the making the way it was rising. I guess there is a first time for everything from them. I wouldn't say this at all. Despite a few recently good weeks, LFTG spent way too many weeks in the 20's to look like a surefire #1 to me. It needed 12 weeks just to crack the top 15...definitely wasn't climbing nearly as fast as "One Of Those Nights", "Highway Don't Care", "Southern Girl", or even "Truck Yeah". As for call-out scores it seems to be doing well with the "bro" demographic but I've seen some sites showing it not testing very well with females. All in all, LFTG had about 3-4 pretty strong weeks but the other 8 were pretty darn slow with little to no progress. As it sits right now, it's only up 68 spins in the last 7 days, and it's #15 on Billboard but the gap up to #14 Justin Moore is more than 6 million. I also must note that Tim licenses his music to Big Machine (through his own McGraw Music 'label') so it's likely that this was a joint decision between Tim and Scott Borchetta. If they felt like sending out another song would be the right move, they'd no doubt take it, and they apparently feel that way about "Meanwhile Back At Mama's".

I'd take credit for the change - perhaps the "conversation" I had with Tim had more of an impact than I thought - but I'm completely perplexed. Extremely pleased, but completely perplexed.

I think Meanwhile Back at Mama's was picked for the ACM performance because of the unprecedented and overwhelmingly negative comments on Tim's social media pages about LFTG. So I give you credit, Riley. :)

I sort of get the impression even Tim McGraw didn't like LFTG. Even if it was selling/testing decently, I guess in the long-run with all the negative feedback the song received Tim and his label felt that even if they were able to push the song into the top 5 in like 25 weeks, Tim's radio career as a whole would be damaged since radio obviously wasn't enthusiastic about playing the song at first.

Perhaps Scott Borchetta and BMLG figured with the fact that "Looking For That Girl" got to the top 20 without a huge backlash and the relatively surprising success of the single, that ending it's chart run just before anything damaging could have been done to Tim's radio career was the best course of action. I get the feeling that they thought that the song would have started to slow down very shortly anyway. So with this new song with Faith waiting in the wings, and the ACM's on the doorstep, there was no better time to debut the song to the public. Now that I've had a day to process this decision, it's gradually making more sense to me.
In the end, "Looking For That Girl" might have exceeded some expectations at radio and feedback (though there was still plenty of negative backlash but not as much as I expected). And that prematurely pulling the plug on the song by a couple weeks preserved Tim's long term future at radio and that throwing out a song the fan's and country radio wanted, would help win Tim back quite quickly in their eyes, and just maybe make us forget that LFTG ever happened (even though it still managed a good climb into the top 20 of the singles charts).
