The only reason I think Dierks may hold Billboard is because Tim's first big gain last week came last Sunday (Monday's update), so that falls off, and Dierks is cohosting CC-USA so he should see a gain. I don't know. No me gusta. (Windmills is tweeting me points figures as I type this, haha.)I feel like I'm back in high school math following Windmills twitter page.

Dierks started the week with a 1774 point lead over Tim. Based on the Aircheck Today emails, Dierks outgained Tim by a small margin this week, so between Friday and yesterday, Tim had to make up between 1800-2000 points on Dierks. So I guess we'll see what the PM MB update says...

Could we see a rare BB only #1? Or am I missing something.

it very possibly could be Billboard only #1 for some reason my media-base account hasn't posted the PM update for today yet it's still the numbers we had this morning

The Mediabase chart became official with the release of the third and final update at 5:59 PM (PDT), with Dierks as well as Tim & Faith neither gaining nor losing any spins from the first report at 3:07 AM to the second one at 1:53 PM to the final one.
Congrats to Mr. Bentley on getting a second week in the penthouse; it's a very nice way to open the final 13 weeks and 25% of the 2014 Mediabase chart year, which ends on Nov. 22nd.

"Meanwhile Back at Mama's" came up just 75 points behind "Drunk on a Plane" on Mediabase this week, while "River Bank" similarly came up 61 points behind "Plane" last Sunday, so two close #2 peaks on Mediabase in a row. That makes five #2 peaks on Mediabase so far this year, with four of them coming from songs promoted by divisions of the Big Machine Label Group ("Drunk Last Night," "Don't Let Me Be Lonely," "This is How We Roll," and "Meanwhile Back at Mama's"). It seems "Mama's" would have had a much easier time spreading this 800-spin gain over two weeks and trying for #1 next week, as the song wasn't on its last leg or anything, but after such a huge push done by Big Machine Records this week, there's no way this Tim McGraw/Faith Hill song will be able to keep climbing for another week. With Tim's album due out on Sept. 16, there's a possibility that Tim's label will quickly throw out a new single either this week or next with a Clear Channel hourly airplay "head start."

@buffalo Country so would I just to see who ends up #1 as if Meanwhile Back At Mama's does then it's Tim & Faith's 3rd duet to do so there last being more than 12 years ago when Angry All The Time hit #1 for the week ending January 19th 2002

What would be their second chart topper since It's Your Love? However, Angry All The Time would be a solo Tim McGraw record. Besides, the January, 2002 chart you are referring to has Alan Jackson's Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning at #1.

Buffalocountry is correct; 'Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning?) was the second of three consecutive singles to spend 5 weeks at #1 @ R&R (I'm NOT making this up!!!!!), sandwiched between 'I Wanna Talk About Me' and 'Good Morning Beautiful'.
Toby's tune had ended the two-week stay at #1 @ R&R of 'Angry All The Time' in October of 2001, and Tim found himself back at #1 again on March 1st, 2002, when 'The Cowboy In Me' replaced Steve Holy's tune at #1 for a three week run at the top before 'Blessed' rose to #1 for two weeks.
Toby's followup to 'IWTAM', the mesmerizing-and-then-some 'My List' became yet another 5-week charttopper @ R&R before 'Drive (For Daddy Gene) replaced it in the penthouse and also spent five weeks at #1 as well; those two standouts eventually wound up #1 and #2 for the year at R&R, followed by 'Good Morning Beautiful', 'Living And Living Well' and 'What If She's An Angel?' by Tommy Shane Steiner.

I really don't miss the days of having several songs spending 5 weeks at the top. I'd actually rather have more songs hit the top like today than boring charts of the past, but that's of course my personal opinion. On topic, I think the Billboard numbers will be close, but Dierks should come out on top given the drop of Tim overnight on the Mediabase numbers this morning.

For all the chart experts out there, what are the chances that Tim can hold off Lady A next week? Pretty low I'd guess.

Lame :( Though I guess it's kind of a good thing it got blocked, shows they can't win every time. It does seem weird that two of the years bigger hits, MBAM and "This Is How We Roll", BOTH BM songs, got blocked from #1.

Yeah, he actually lost more spins than Dierks did. That's the big problem with these massive pushes. You'd better get to #1, cause if you don't that likely means game over since it's nearly impossible to maintain the astronomical numbers that you accumulated because of that push.

I'm glad this song got blocked. These massive pushes are so artificial and really ruin the meaning of hitting #1 on the charts. A #2 peak isn't that big of a deal, it's not like 5 years from now no one will remember this song because it didn't go #1. Only us chart geeks truly care lol. But seriously, if any song deserved a 2 week stay this year, "Drunk On A Plane" was that song. The question is, how many weeks can Lady A get? 2 seems likes a definite possibility.

I'll say Lady Antebellum gets two weeks and then Kenny Chesney takes over.

I'm also really against these big pushes, but I'm very disappointed that this song missed out. It seemed like a #1 all along, and not like a song that would need a big artificial push to hit the top. I really don't know what went on here, but it's such a shame that this song had to suffer because of it.

Mr. Borchetta got a taste of his own medicine which he richly deserved after all of his pushes as well as the unprecedented crash-and-burn performance of 'WANEGBT' after that equally ludicrous and totally unnecessary 'artist integration launch', and the fact that this wonderful tune missed the penthouse by a mere 76 points certainly should have erased the doubts of all of the newcomers forever that the charts have become the plaything of just about every label on Music Row, and that this reprehensible practice which has absolutely exploded during the last 3-4 years solely to get a ton of bogus number ones needs to be stopped, but I'm not holding my breath that this nonsense will go away.
Capitol Records has been Nashville's #1 label airplay-wise for five successive years, and Dierks Bentley is certainly a huge reason for that streak; he's definitely one of the most respected artists in the realm of country music and yet I've somehow felt that he's somewhat underappreciated, because everybody I know who's ever seen him in concert has unequivocally stated that he's a real a**-kicking performer, and his most recent pair of CDs spend a lot of time in my car's CD player and certainly in my computer.
I would hope that this standout song will snag multiple Grammy and CMA nominations; thanks to the bro-country disease which has inundated and polluted the airwaves, it undoubtedly towers over the overwhelming majority of tunes which have filled the airwaves this year, and the top 10 singles of 2014 is shaping up to be the worst such cluster of the past 35+ years IMHO, and the year-end countdowns are going to be really gruesome to listen to, even with a superb storyteller such as Bob Kingsley mikeside.
I'm definitely looking forward to Tim's next single, and I heard on the radio yesterday that the deluxe edition of his forthcoming CD will have 18 tracks on it, which is absolutely wonderful.

I will echo Marv's sentiments in one area, but not necessarily for Drunk On A Plane. Dierks Bentley deserved to win awards for his Up On The Ridge CD. How many artists do you know that take that kind of risk, only to come back better (and bigger) than ever before?

Jeez, I didn't even need to peek in here to know that this song was getting pushed at radio. I haven't gotten in the car once without hearing this song at some point during a drive. I love it and think it's extremely well done, but radio's seriously killing it for me.

I really don't know what went on here, but it's such a shame that this song had to suffer because of it. I agree with this. It's very disappointing to see this song miss out on #1, after such a smooth ride up the chart. It really felt like a #1 all along, but I think this is a case here of Big Machine getting a bit too trigger-happy. For whatever reason they lined things up for the big push last week (perhaps they thought it was a better week to push for some reason? Idk) rather than spreading those gains out over 2 weeks and trying to be #1 on Labor Day weekend. My guess is that they didn't expect Capitol to fight so hard for a 2nd week at #1 on Mediabase for Dierks; I'm guessing that Big Machine expected the standard situation to go down here--they'd let Dierks get a 2nd week at #1 on Billboard, but Tim could steal away the Mediabase #1 and everybody would be happy. The other possibility is of course that maybe they thought it'd be easier to do battle with "Drunk On A Plane" rather than "Bartender". But no matter how I look at it, it's just disappointing. Today marks MBAM's 19th week on the Billboard chart, so it's not like it was getting long in the tooth or anything like that. The sales haven't been quite as red hot as those for Dierks, Kenny, and Lady A, but all in all this has been a strong performer for Tim. This is a well-written, actual country song, and it's approaching 500k sold (should be there in a little over a week). Congrats to Dierks--I love his song as well (and I can't escape hearing either DOAP or MBAM on the radio right now)--but I was really hoping that Tim could get a #1 here. It's really hard to blame Dierks, though--I think Big Machine just goofed here. They amped up airplay by 800 spins this past week, and if they had spread that out over 2 weeks (maybe a 300 spin-increase week, and a +500 increase for this new week), they could've snuck in a week at #1 between Dierks and Lady A.

This is #1 on Billboard's Indicator chart tonight. So not the main chart, but at least they will be able to call it a #1 hit if they want to. Better than nothing, but not what they (or I) were hoping for, I'm sure.

Better than nothing, but not what they (or I) were hoping for, I'm sure. And they only missed out on the #1 by about 430k to Dierks. Like I said yesterday, if Big Machine had kept the push going for just one more day (yesterday), it wouldn't have taken much more for them to come away with a Billboard-only #1. I know that Tim had a pretty big update last week Sunday, but even if they only managed a 400-500k gain in today's MB update, that might have been enough for them to eek past Dierks for the Billboard #1 tonight.

Echoing a lot of posts here...as much as I enjoy "Drunk on a Plane" and as much as these pushes make me roll my eyes, I'm disappointed that "Meanwhile Back at Mama's" didn't hit #1. Not so much for Tim and Faith, but for the songwriters Tom Douglas, Jaren Johnston & Jeff Steele. I don't think that it was a foregone conclusion that this one would succeed in the current radio environment, and I would have loved for a song with a more traditional sound to connect and reach #1, to make the point that it's still possible. But the songwriters will still pick up healthy royalties from this song's airplay, and I agree with Marv that they could be in line for CMA/Grammy/ACM nominations too (and maybe some wins, as weak a year as it has been in mainstream country).

this mornings all access/media-base update puts Meanwhile Back at Mama's at #1 giving Tim and Faith their third #1 as a duo and first since Angry all the Time did so for the chart ending January 19th 2002 can't wait to see Hot Country Singles this would be their first #1 since the chart was re titled for the week ending 4/30/2005
