Iyaz struggled to get hits after Replay. I think Solo did quite well, but after that he only had a few smaller hits like Pyramid, So Big, The Mack (in the UK), then disappeared. Jason managed a long stream of hits. In My Head and Ridin' Solo were arguably around as big as Whatcha Say. Then from his 2nd album he had Don't Wanna Go Home and It Girl which did well, then his current album had The Other Side which did well too, and now Talk Dirty which was massive. Jason has managed to keep his momentum going, whilst Iyaz didn't. That's what I'm saying. He's somehow managed to score hits for the past 4 years even though everything about him screams generic flash in the pan. Meh, things don't always work out the way people on music forums want them to. If you would have said 4 years ago that Jason Derulo would still be scoring big hits around the world as a lead act while Kesha would be in rehab and getting her biggest success as a feature these days, you would have been torn to shreds here. Distinctiveness is a trait that is way overanalyzed anyway by some. Yes, it is important, but far more important is to have material that is likable to the public in that moment in time. Jason's team has managed to do that.

Hopefully this will tank on iTunes after the new release effect wears off. Would serve him and the label right for trying to so blatantly ride off the coat-tails of TD's success with a regurgitated mess of an imitation. Sad thing is he had other hits to fall back on. Hopefully Trumpets and/or Zipper still get released.

I would at least want "Kama Sutra" to be released to Rhythmic. That would be the PERFECT crossover hit.

This essentially has not much airplay. It's doing way better than TD was doing at this point. This could shape up to be his 2nd #1. On Billboard or Mediabase? It would be his fourth on MB. SUNDAY PUBLISHED UPDATE:73 60 JASON DERULO Wiggle f/Snoop Dogg 236 130 106 0.792 I was referring to the Hot 100.

Okay so I'm listening to this for the first time and it has the kind of zeitgeisty try-hard lyrics that will make everyone say they hate it despite the millions of copies it's obviously selling.

So this is top ten on iTunes already. This is the song of the summer, there's no question about it. I'm feeling Call Me Maybe, Blurred Lines, California Gurls type teas coming from this song's performance already.

It's entirely too soon for you to be making statements like that with such certainty. Goodbye.

I remember when she first got popular most people were certain she'd have a Madonna-type career.

I try to hate this because of those lyrics and that wiggle in the hook and stuff...but it's hard as the song is so infectiously catchy, especially the verses.

wow, I'm surprised this is taking off so fast, especially because it sounds so similar to Talk Dirty. Maybe it won't last, I just can't see it being a "song of the summer" since it's just a worse version of TD. Maybe everyone's just getting excited a little too early.

I just can't see it being a "song of the summer" since it's just a worse version of TD. This is exactly right. But it's showing all the signs of being a multi-week #1. Then again, so did "Say Something."

I gotta say I just do not agree with the accusations of him being 'Generic'. He's got a lot of commercial appeal, he's a great singer, dancer, and he's just that ultimate black-male-popstar. His persona by the way, (at least pre-TD) has always been the sensitive black guy. That's not a niche that's being filled by anyone else. Taio Cruz I would say is the one who screams generic and flash-in-the-pan, and look what happened to him.

I gotta say I just do not agree with the accusations of him being 'Generic'. He's got a lot of commercial appeal, he's a great singer, dancer, I used to think that he was really generic early on as some of his material seemed like it had been engineered in a way that really any artist could have recorded and released it. I think his second album, though a commercial disaster, had a few good songs on it and served as a transitional record. And then everything just worked out well for setting up the new album. I didn't realize it until I looked at the credits but he is listed as a co-writer on most of his songs. While that input could be limited to just a few minor changes or lyrics, but that's something extra which adds to what he can do. I think the material on the new album was much better overall.

I must disagree here. He's a great dancer, but his voice is disastrous live. I believe he was hired on a songwriter, and he can write some catchy tunes. Props to him for that.
