He's performing at the BBMAs this weekend, so that'll give the song even more exposure. Can't believe this is already top ten on iTunes while barely scraping at the top 40 on pop radio.

Trumpets is probably the next single. It's already near the top 150 on iTunes.

I hope not. It sounds like they found an old MIDI file and just said "HEY SING ON THIS!"

This is probably going to explode at this format over the next 2 weeks.

I use to like his songs, and definitely liked The other side and Talk dirty, but this is really bad in my opinion

Jason Derulo managed to transition from the dance-pop/electro-pop era from late 2000s/ early 2010s, good for him. :) Taio Cruz, Jay Sean, Mike Posner, Iyaz were left in the dust.
The one that shocks me the most is Taio Cruz, he had those 2 big hits, "Dynamite" was huge, I believe it has sold well over 6 million copies, and then... puff! forgotten.
LMFAO comes to mind as well, altough they disbanded shortly after the mega flop single SFPR as far as I know.

None of them really had a distinctive or established image. I think of the ones you mentioned, Jason was probably the only one to really be memorable in any way beyond his hits (though not that much really). It goes to show that having huge radio hits can only take you so far.

Still always surprised that Higher by Taio Cruz didn't smash, especially coming off two such big hits for him. I still hear that in the club from time to time and always gets a great reaction. Total jam.

28 on Spotify, 8 on iTunes. Radio just needs to catch up, but they'll have to kill Talk Dirty first.

I think it's a question of having the right songs. The truth is Talk dirty is his first billboard hot 100 single since In my head (or maybe Riding solo, i don't know if that got top 10 on billboard), but he was able to make some noise in radio with some top 10 hits and top 20 on billboard, so he keep himself on the radar. The others can't do that. The truth is this type of singer usually have a short livespan at least he is able to trascend or be distinctive like George Michael was. That's not Jason's case wich makes more meritory the fact that he is still around and having hits

None of them have been able to translate a smash single into album sales of any kind. Jason's album sales are laughable for the type of numbers he posts for his hits. 1 monster hit and another in the making and he's only cleared like 70K since release

Does not being able to sell albums automatically make one a bad investment for a record label? No, and everyone who is benefitting from having their name on the publishing for Jason's hits would agree. We're in the age of 360 deals, albums aren't the end goal anymore for many acts. The mentality that being unable to shift LPs automatically makes one a flop act is one that is getting increasingly outdated.

Yes, but for an artist being able to sell albums is a livesaver. It gives you a lot of creative freedom because you are less submitted to the flavor of the month in terms of music sound. Right now there's an oportunity for the singers who only carry singles that it didn't existed in the past, but a couple of flops an you are toast

Well I never said that he was a bad investment for the label, because he can obviously move singles, churn them out, and move on. He'll have a new album out next year, I'm sure, with 3 perfectly crafted hit singles and 7 fillers. Wash, rinse, and repeat. He's certainly not a flop, I doubt think anybody could argue that he is. But I still think album sales are the best indicator of an act's longterm impact on music, outside of the short term financial impact for the label.

Sounds like someone's hungry here lol. Jason was hired as a songwriter initially and if his recording career goes south he can always fall on that. He has writing credits on all of his hits so I don't think he's in danger of filing for bankruptcy anytime soon.

Good for him.
I only think that relying only in singles success is very limiting in terms of creativity, i know he is basically a very mainstream singer, but anyway. You just don't know the kind of music you want to make in a couple of years. At least he is one of the very few singers out there that is a good dancer.
I suppose i miss the George Michael type, someone who is able to make good albums with a very wide range of sounds. Maybe Sam Smith is able to deliver that, his first two singles can't be more different between them

Being an album seller extends one's career, imo. Someone can still be successful on singles (Flo Rida) but being the type of artist that people are willing to invest in on an album basis can add life and time to a career that otherwise hangs on the balance of each single to be a hit.

I like just about all of his single and have purchased all of his full albums to. However I think this song is kind of stupid. I like the verses but, the chorus is stupid. I'm sure after 100's of listen's I'll end up getting used to it though. lol.

So, I haven't heard this yet and I was tardy for the party with Talk Dirty (not listening to radio as a general rule or even owning one) but I heard Trumpets in the club on the Gold Coast and holy shit, do I love that song. It's the first song of Jason's I've actually LOVED and not just tolerated (i.e. all his other singles) or really liked (i.e. Talk Dirty). I really hope that's next.

I'd love this song a lot more if the lyrics weren't so, for lack of a better word, stupid. #hamsammich
As for Trumpets, it was instantly my favorite and it's got over 47m streams on Spotify so I'm hoping his label smartly makes it the next single in the States.
