I'm surprised pop radio stations are warming up to this. I'm glad and I wish dancepop would go more into this 80s direction, than that AVICCI style, but it seems strange , cuz this is opposit of what usually catches on on pop radio. Still, its a good sign. This one reminds me of Early Madonna. When she was doing the club scene in New York.

Maybe pop DJs are more confident to play it since they can see how well received it's been everywhere else in the world (although that hasn't helped other songs, so I don't know). Great song though, so I'm happy for her. Her next single is great too (although I don't think it'll be as big a hit).

US Shazam Chart:
11 (16) Hideaway
Wish this were higher on iTunes. It's on all the video channels now.

I still don't like the song but at least i don't have the bad reaction that i had at first (the same with Stolen dance). Radio is really supporting this, but if the song won't start climbing on itunes like Rather be did, i don't think that support will last

Radio is really supporting this, but if the song won't start climbing on itunes like Rather be did, i don't think that support will last Don't know if I agree with this. For starters, I wouldn't say the Clean Bandit song quickly exploded as far as the airplay-to-sales conversion goes. It took a while to get going. On top of that, Rather Be was an On the Verge song that stations were forced to spin - so they needed to see proof it was resonating to keep spinning it. I'm pretty sure Hideaway is getting the spins organically, so radio programmers legitimately like it. I also don't know that it's selling TERRIBLY - it's in the Top 70 - and it's not like we don't see radio playing songs that aren't selling. The Afrojack song never sold and went Top 20. The Demi song isn't really selling and went Top 10. Rita's song is *REALLY* not selling and recently had a huge boost to #23. No one is buying the FGL & Jason DeRulo remix, and that's moving as well. You then have songs like Echosmith's Cool Kids, which is starting to sell, and still getting fairly modest updates at radio. Tove Lo's "Habits" has greatly oversold based on the airplay it's received. Hideaway also has the boost from the incredible video - that gets people buzzing about the song even if they're not buying. Not worried about this at all. Maybe not a Top 5 or even 10, but it's going to be considered a success when all is said and done.

Rather be had a deal that make the airplay bust out of the blue, but that airplay (one can argue if the song would exploded without the deal, and i frankly think no) reflected inmediately on sales. Hideway is getting big updates for a while, and it's true the song climbed (well, it needs to climb for sure because it was selling more or less the same that Waves with 5 times its airplay) but the climb is very far from being at the same level that its airplay.
Cool Kids and Habits have an alt vibe, in fact both songs are in the alternative chart. I don't know if define them as crossovers because it's not the typical case of an alt hit crossing to pop. The sales not always translate on big airplay, we have the recent case of Human wich reach itunes top 10 but it was ignored by radio, but if you get airplay and that doesn't reflect on sales, the airplay usually drop after a while unless you are a big name like Katy Perry or a new radio darling like Demi Lovato.
Of course at this rate it could go top 20, like you said other songs that didn't do that much at itunes did it first, but it won't be further. And even if this is her first song chatting, this was very big on UK and other countries before wich surely helps to get some early airplay. It received a goo amount of adds on its first week (something that didn't happen with Waves to put an example of a song that had similar success in europe) so it got radio support from the beginning

It sounds like the club music from 89-93. Her vocals on this remind me of some of (La) India's freestyle tracks ("Lover Who Rocks You"/"Right From The Start").
