Omfg the album sounds amazing and I'm only 5 tracks in This is gonna be the next Emotion IMO, well hopefully not on the same level of success, since Gwen deserves some more hits in her bag for sure, been long overdue now.

Slant gave the album 3.5/5. Totally agree with them; the first several tracks are much better than the rest.

"Truth" is easily one of the best songs she has released in her career. Wow, those lyrics and her delivery - I'm floored! :o

First listen thoughts:
As much as I like "Used to Love You" and "Make Me Like You", they made me nervous she had become a little generic and lost what had made her and her voice so unique in 2004-2006. So I'm very happy to hear some of that iconic chanting back in full effect throughout the album. Overall, this is a great pop album with high production and a lot of catchiness. Her public persona and public breakup and public rebound make the album really resonate on a personal level because it all does feel true for her and her life. I think I'm going to have to listen a couple more times to figure out the standout tracks but I loved the opening three tracks ("Misery", "You're My Favorite", "Where Would I Be?"), "Truth", and "Me Without You" a lot. "Red Flag" and "Naughty" are going to be guilty pleasures for sure, and she's always served up a few of those per album.

Picked up the Target version today in Brooklyn during lunch. I love the childlike journal entry lyric scribbles in the booklet. I'm pretty excited to listen to this in full when I get home.

"Truth" is easily one of the best songs she has released in her career. Wow, those lyrics and her delivery - I'm flawed! I love the honesty in the lyrics about her and Blake's relation situationship. I really don't wanna embarrass myself No one's gonna believe me, not even myself And they're all gonna say I'm rebounding So rebound all over me!!!In other news: the album is on Apple Music and TIDAL but not Spotify; I wonder how that will affect her first week SPS.

The album is wildly uneven for me, just like her other two, but there are few decent tracks here. I like "Where Would I Be?" the most.

I wasn't ready for this but I always jump to the gun when it comes to clips. I was the same way about Mariah's E=MC2 and MOAIA, two of my favorite Mariah albums, so I just gotta learn learn learn learn learn learn. Anyway, my thoughts:
I get it, Gwen. JR is a damn good producer. He always does his best when he is working with A-list popstars and not the Paris Hiltons of the world, but...8 songs of 16 may be a bit much. He starts to wear on me but he is varied enough...other than Obsessed, the only song I really didn't LOVE on first listen. Not even that bad a song though. Anyway, fucking great album. I love Gwen doing trap. Never thought I would say that. She stays quirky Gwen throughout. I actually forget how weird she is sometimes...truly. The fact that she signs off on all these 8th grader diaristic lyrics and owns them and makes them work for her is just astounding. Even her ad-libs are becoming essential. My favorite of all her albums. I did not know that I needed Gwen and Fetty Wap, of ALL people, together but apparently, I did. Getting Warmer though...O.M.F.G. WHAT?

"Where Would I Be?" is flawless. It is modern but nostalgic, and it sounds uniquely Gwen.

So happy my slightly hyperbolic underestimation was exceeded. She's projected to debut at #1 next week with 68-73k (73-78k SPS), her first solo #1 album.
Love.Angel.Music.Baby debuted at #7 with 309k (4m to date).
The Sweet Escape debuted at #3 with 243k (1.733m to date).

"You're My Favorite" is very Rock Steady. "Where Would I Be?" is also reminiscent of Lily Allen. The rest of the album is very middle-of-the-road for me at this point. Nothing stands out, nothing really sounds bad. I could see it growing on me later. But for right now, tracks 2-4 are the only ones that really have me sold at this point.

Love this album.
After several listens, my ranking:
1. Misery 2. Used To Love You 3. Make Me Like You 4. Asking For It 5. Getting Warmer 6. Truth 7. Red Flag 8. Naughty 9. You're My Favorite 10. Rocket Ship 11. Send Me A Picture
...and the rest. I straight-up LOVE #1-6. 7-11 are very strong album tracks. Where Would I Be sounds like something Lily Allen did better 10 years ago. It's not bad but they could have made it a bonus track, really and moved Getting Warmer into the final track listing. Gwen is past that ska-lite sound anyway. Oh...and BYE to the Red Flag haters. She reminds me of Iggy a little in the verse but I just think it's an interesting song. I love the "You know how to spend it" section the most and the steady synth pulse over the hard beat. The fake strings and the manic laughter too add some theatricality to it.

I miss the days that 309k could only debut at a #7 position. Album sales truly have changed!
