I'll just wait for Cody and Pipa to come in with WHY YOU GIVE THEM AIDS I THOUGHT YOU HATED INDIE BREAKING BENJAMIN M/ No, I get it. You used to love indie, but then you put ideologies ahead of your own ears, so now you hate it.

I hate to disagree with the majority, but I found this rather mediocre, just like all their other singles. Another band that I haven't been able to get into. And they're one of the less poppy indie bands overall too It is true that Young the Giant is more rock based, heh. But these guys and Cage the Elephant just haven't impressed me like some other rock leaning indie bands have.

That's not true. The indie songs from pre-2013 were better than the indie songs post-2013. It was just a coincidence that I was a chart follower in 2013. Stop reading too much into things.

I actually think 2013 was a pretty great year for indie. There's only one song in the Alt year-end top 20 I don't like. And it's by *GASP* a veteran artist.

"Apartment" is the only single by them that I didn't really care for. It will probably stay that way too since I love everything on Mind Over Matter (the album).

As for year end top 20's, I'll go by how many I charted since 2010
2010: 18/20 (Back Against The Wall, Again) 2011: 18/20 (Changing, Panic) 2012: 19/20 (Too Close) 2013: 18/20 (Come A Little Closer, Sirens)

My Body: C+ (Volbeat did this song better IMO) Cough Syrup: C Apartment: C It's About Time: C+ Mind Over Matter: C
So while I don't hate this band, I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them.
Year end Top 20s:
2010: 15/20 (In One Ear, Back Against the Wall, Mountain Man, Again. I'll give 1/2 to Animal and Lay Me Down.) 2011: 16/20 (Shake Me Down, Sail, Cough Syrup, My Body) 2012: 14/20 (Ho Hey, Little Talks, Tongue Tied, Too Close, Not Your Fault, Kill Your Heroes) 2013: 11/20 (Sweater Weather, Come a Little Closer, Out of My League, Mountain Sound, Trojans, Ways to Go, Royals, Harlem, Stubborn Love)
Yeah, noticing a downward trend for me too.

I wonder how Alt would take Volbeat's cover of My Body if it was a single.

I wonder how Alt would take Volbeat's cover of My Body if it was a single. I doubt it would chart in the Top 40 because ::gasps:: it's a nu-metal band :o

I'd say just straight up Hard Rock (with little but of Metal). But I'd be ok with just classifying them as "great".

lol Volbeat DOES NOT do "My Body" better than YTG.
That's like saying Limp Bizkit does "Behind Blue Eyes" better than The Who.

You really can't compare Young the Giant to The Who (or Volbeat to Limp Bizkit for that matter) Though for the record I do like Limp Bizkit's cover, though I'd like it a lot more if the bridge wasn't terrible.

Not much to work with, since they are a relatively new band, but here goes. My Body: B Cough Syrup: A Apartment: C It's About Time: A+ Mind Over Matter: A+
"Crystallized" is also damn good, but not a single yet.

no grades from me since idk, but I don't mind YtG. I liked this era's singles better than last era, but that might have something to do with every single commercial using My Body a year or so ago. I still hear that song in my sleep, the overplay pushed me from indifference to dislike pretty quickly.

I'm disappointed to see how little people like Apartment. It's tied with Cough Syrup as my favorite Young the Giant song, personally.

This is pretty much done, but I'm happy with it's top 15 showing after it looked like it was gonna completely bomb just inside the top 30. All in all though this was a poor choice considering "Crystallized" was available.
It looks like "Anagram" might be single #3, they just shot their typical 'In The Open' video for that. I'm still hoping for "Crystallized" though.

But seeing as how "Apartment" only reached #26 last era following two Top 5s, I'm not particularly expecting a successful third single this time around.

Yeah, I'm don't have high expectations either, although it should be noted that this album is much deeper than the debut was, and most of the songs on it are better than "Apartment". The big difference is that the self-titled debut had two perfectly-tailored-for-radio hits (both of which were stellar works of art IMO), while "Mind Over Matter" is full of strong album tracks. I'm still hoping whatever gets released next, whether it be "Crystallized" or "Anagram", can at least match the peak of "Apartment"
