Band just released a video on their Facebook page that presumably has a snippet of the lead single of their upcoming album. Cannot wait!

Won't be surprised if my favourite song on the album will be the 3rd single, and the 2nd single will also be better than the lead single, just as was the case with each of the past 4 albums Life Less Frightening > Swing Life Away > Give It All The Good Left Undone > Prayer Of The Refugee > Ready To Fall Savior > Audience Of One > Re-Education (Through Labor) Satellite > Make It Stop (September's Children) > Help Is On The Way

I'll join the "I'm super duper excited!!!" gang too for new material from them. One of the most consistent bands that I've been a fan of over the last 20+ years.

All their songs sound the same, but for some reason it doesn't bother me with this band. They were the alternative chart saviors in 00's.

I kind of just now realized that I tend to like their second singles the best.

I'm worried about their alternative prospects this time arpund no way this lead single will flop on Alternative If this is as heavy/aggressive as a single like "Help Is On The Way" was, I would expect an alternative peak outside the top 10 and an active rock peak inside the top 5. If they go for a more low-fi style of production and go out of their way to sound more alternative by the current definition of the genre, their name recognition could propel them top 5 there, but they'd have to cater their sound to the new alt trends. If they do, then I'd expect an active rock peak outside of the top 10. It's nearly impossible to have a single go top 5 on both formats these days. The only bands I could see pulling it off are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, and a lighter Linkin Park single, and all would have to be lead singles.

I kind of just now realized that I tend to like their second singles the best. Pretty much how it is for me. I wasn't immediate to the last couple second singles but in the long haul they turned out for better. I accused Audience of One as a going through the motions single, but I heard it when it died out and it really grew on me. I like Give It All and Swing Life Away about as much and the 3 Sufferer singles and noted other second singles. That said, the thing I said about the Black Keys applies even more to these guys.

Riff sounds a lot like The Offspring's "Hammerhead".
Remember when people said The Offspring stole from Rise Against on their last album? Maybe this is getting even.

Hope it brings back heavy screaming. If this flops on Alternative because of the pussy indie crowd, I will lose hope in them.

The changing of the tide sucks so fucking much. Why do people prefer gay ass indie, I will never know. Half that stuff should be on AAA or Pop. So many.

Seeing as Rise Against are one of my favorite bands of all time, I have found that the THIRD single is usually my favorite.
SIREN SONG OF THE COUNTER CULTURE: Life Less Frightening > Give It All >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Swing Life Away
THE SUFFERER & THE WITNESS The Good Left Undone > Prayer of the Refugee >>>> Ready to Fall
APPEAL TO REASON Savior >> Re-Education (Through Labor) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Audience of One
ENDGAME Satellite > Help Is On The Way >>>>>> Make It Stop (September's Children)

The changing of the tide sucks so f**king much. Why do people prefer gay ass indie, I will never know. Half that stuff should be on AAA or Pop. So many. Hey man, I think it would help if you didn't just mindlessly bash songs all over the place. I agree with you in some of aspects, in that I also think the current state of Alternative has gone far downhill, and it needs to get heavier again. I also don't know why indie-pop is so popular, and why everyone's so in love with it. But if you're going to criticize songs and call them "pussy" at least back it up with reasons, unless you just look like an ass. Also, this sounds promising. Very Offspring-ish.

I know it's just 30 seconds worth, but that gets me damn excited for new material from them. One of my favorite bands to come out in the mainstream over the last decade, easily.

I think Alternative should be more receptive to rock-leaning songs, as I believe its roots are in rock music. Even in the 90s, when the state of Alternative was eclectic, there were heavier and lighter songs getting airplay at the same time. Nowadays, it's all basically borderline pop, and I don't know why Alternative is phasing out rock and trying to become a second pop format. Like I've said before, not all rock should be restricted to Active.

Mind you, this format used to be called "Modern Rock" (at least on Billboard) and that's the way it should go back to IMO. Nothing extremely heavy (although I don't mind heaviness), and nothing extremely poppy.

There needs to be an alt/rock station in New York City.
I will start it up, and play so much Active material Linkin Park will get into the top ten based on my spins alone.

^ Can you put one in South Florida too? There were three Alternative/Active stations here about ten years ago. Now, none. Ridiculous that the #1 and I believe #8 markets in the country don't have a new rock station. It's unbelievable how many less rock concerts come down here than in years past and end up coming to Orlando or Tampa because they have at least one new rock related station.

Help bring some rock back into Alternative, and pray that it doesn't get flipped to Active. I never understood why NYC doesn't have a rock station. Many other, smaller parts of New York, even where I live, have at least an Alternative or an Active station. Probably because hipsters have taken over the city, especially Brooklyn. However, if there was an Alternative station in NYC that was Active-leaning (like your proposed one ), I think it could potentially help bring heaviness back, because aside from the hipsters, NYC is still a huge market, and could influence others to actually listen to more rock music than indie-pop.

There was one for a like a month and then it got shut down.
There's an AAA in Hudson Valley (#29), but reception sucks when I leave Long Island. It plays some good stuff, but avoids the heavy.
In Smithtown, there's 94.3, which only plays recurrents. The same old recurrents. Every single Incubus/Offspring/RHCP/Pearl Jam/Green Day/Metallica song there is. But I rarely get it.

I live in NC and I have two Active stations and an Alt station, so I have options when I listen to the radio and don't really mind the differences between Alt and Active, especially since Alt has introduced me to a lot of new music that's now some of my favorite artists like Lorde and Phantogram.

I wish there were more overlap between Alternative and Active. Like I've said before, Alternative has gotten way too poppy lately, especially since (I believe) it's rooted in rock music. Also, for the people who only have one or the other, it can (sort of) bring the best of both worlds by having more overlap. And most of these new artists aren't very good anyway.
