It's Taylor Swift; CHR would play any song of hers a lot, at least in the beginning, just based off her name. Whether they keep playing it would depend on the listeners' reaction to it, but an outright rejection just isn't going to happen. SIO's sound is even more left of center than OOTW, I would say. The instrumental sounds like it belongs in a 2006 recording session with Christina Aguilera more than on 2014 pop radio. But it's catchy and took off immediately. No reason why OOTW (which is superior) wouldn't get that same chance from pop radio and probably that same reaction from listeners. I still use the "throw in this song in a playlist with the current top 10" test to gauge what I think a song's chances are for doing well, and OOTW fits with the current pop songs top 10 just fine. Actually, this week's top 10 pop songs is random as hell, so I'd say that OOTW would have an even easier time making it if she released it now because there's no particular sound that is dominant or that would make OOTW sound out of place. 22 is on par with WANEGBT imo, but looking back at its old call scores, the main problem seems to be that its beginning scores were pretty much the same as what WANEGBT and IKYWT had - two or three months into their runs when the burn rate was getting high. Decent yet not overwhelming positivity, but already sort of high negativity...and the negativity started creeping up from the mid-20s to the mid-30s within its first month, while the positivity stayed stagnant in the high 50s. I really believe that had little to do with the song itself and more to do with people burning out on Taylor in general (this was when she started catching the bulk of criticism for her dating life and getting knocks for taking Tina Fey's Golden Globes jab too seriously), and I wonder now if that is why Big Machine chose not to push 22 harder or send any more songs to pop. Her album sales were where they were expected to be and knowing that she would be coming back to pop with the next album, they didn't want to risk wearing out Taylor's welcome early. So if I were to have any concern, it is not for any of Taylor's songs, which likely all are strong enough on their own merits. I'd be a little worried that Taylor's era might end prematurely no matter what her singles are because people burn out on Taylor herself too quickly. I hope this does not turn out to be the case, however. I want a solid, four to five single era. Apologies for not quoting, I don't want anyone to think I'm talking 'at' them but I was just responding to the current discussion as a whole so didn't really know who to quote. Red actually did have a pop single after 22. Everything has changed was released and was a moderate hit

Now I'm hearing that countries that usually sell their albums on Fridays are now selling this next week instead.

It's absolutely insane how they have kept this album on lock. Huge props to Taylor and her team. It's pretty amazing. As much as I want to hear it, I hope it stays under wraps now til the very end since it's so close to the street date. My guess is that the tracklist wasn't supposed to come out at all and be a surprise once you picked up the CD or bought in on iTunes, which would've been a really neat and cool thing if it had worked out that way.

As badly as I want this to leak I am beyond impressed that it hasn't. It will be so impressive if it doesn't leak.

If anyone was doubting Taylor's pop direction, you would feel very wrong after listening to this great album.

Bad Blood sounds nothing like what I thought it would sound like. I can't tell if I like it... The "hey" in the background sounds like the background of Roar :x

"New Romance" is like a better version of what Neon Trees were trying to do this year with "Sleeping With A Friend".

For almost a decade, Taylor Swift has been waging, and winning, a war, smiling all the while. Country music has been — was — a natural enemy for her: hidebound, slow moving, lousy with machismo. She could break the rules and make people nervous simply by showing up. And yet country was also a hospitable host body. She faced almost no direct competition there, and it’s a genre that embraces success, grudgingly if need be. Most important, country gave Ms. Swift context. It made her a transgressor, which means even her most benign songs could be read with mischievous intent. From the outside, she looked like a conquering titan. But from the inside looking out, even as the genre’s biggest star, she was always something of an underdog, multiplatinum albums and accolades be damned. That she would one day abandon country has long been clear. It’s a big box, and a porous one, but a box all the same. “1989” (Big Machine), though, her fifth album and the first that doesn’t at all bother with country, manages to find a new foe. Full of expertly constructed, slightly neutered songs about heartbreak, “1989,” which is to be released on Monday, doesn’t announce itself as oppositional. But there is an implicit enemy on this breezily effective album: the rest of mainstream pop, which “1989” has almost nothing in common with. Modern pop stars — white pop stars, that is — mainly get there by emulating black music. Think of Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber. In the current ecosystem, Katy Perry is probably the pop star least reliant on hip-hop and R&B to make her sound, but her biggest recent hit featured the rapper Juicy J; she’s not immune. Ms. Swift, though, is having none of that; what she doesn’t do on this album is as important as what she does. There is no production by Diplo or Mike Will Made-It here, no guest verse by Drake or Pitbull. Her idea of pop music harks back to a period — the mid-1980s — when pop was less overtly hybrid. That choice allows her to stake out popular turf without having to keep up with the latest microtrends, and without being accused of cultural appropriation.www.nytimes.com/2014/10/26/arts/music/taylor-swift-1989-new-album-review.html?_r=0This review is misleading. This is about the least "urban" time we've seen in music since...ever?

Blank Space, Style, All You How To Do Was Stay and I Wish You Would are really good. I'm listening to Bad Blood now and I'm a bit underwhelmed.
