Brice Long of "Anywhere But Here" and "It's Only Monday" fame, is a co-writer.
He also helped pen "What I Can't Put Down" by Jon Pardi.

Glad Randy's going with this. It likely won't hit #1 because it's a ballad but anywhere near the Top 10 would be great for what is likely the final single from the album.

great news! this is one of my favorites. I really didn't care for "goodnight kiss" at all.

Great song. I guess we could say it's the fifth single but did the Kristy duet do anything? I liked that one. I know it was promoted as her single, not his and they changed the vocals to suit that.

Great song, I just wish the production didn't get so damn loud. The whole song is such a throwback, even if it doesn't sound out of place sonically in today's country climate. Randy's played it remarkably safe to score some big hits off this record, nice to see one of the best songs getting run at radio. I few years ago this would've been a sure fire #1, but I'm not sure a power ballad without a whiff of bro can hit #1 these days. Still, should have no trouble hitting top 10 and keeping Randy's momentum going into his next record. If it does flop, well then I've once again underestimated how bad the state of affairs has gotten at country radio.

It only made it as high as #57 on the BB country airplay chart, so no, it didn't really do anything at all.

For lack of a better term, this startling song is extraordinary, and I'm absolutely delighted that country radio is going to sound a heck of a lot better over the course of the rest of this year thanks to this mesmerizing tune and a couple of other standouts; 'How Country Feels' was arguably the most underappreciated CD of 2013 except for those of us including yours truly who played the you-know-what out of it when it was released, and still give it a spin from time to time.
With some 30 or so weeks remaining in Billboard's 2014 chart year, on top of Randy's steady yet methodical rise into the upper echelon of country radio's most appreciated artists, this will undoubtedly wind up in Billboard's year-end top ten as one of the very biggest singles of the year, and for a gentleman who finished a very respectable 8th among the format's most played artists @ Mediabase last year, don't be surprised if he finishes higher on this year's year-end airplay rankings when thy're released in mid-November.
He certainly deserves it with what unquestionably has to rank as one of the very best 'paying your dues' stories in the realm of country music over the past decade, not too far behind Little Big Town's lengthy trek into the format's upper echelon; perseverance pays big-time if you want it bad enough, and these two standout artists have certainly proved it without question IMHO.
Here's hoping his career 'blows up' over the course of the rest of 2014 and all of 2015 with his next CD, after placing two singles in last year's Mediabase year-end top 20 in his breakout year at country radio.

Audio:
This is the perfect single choice. I can actually hear steel guitar! :O
But seriously, they couldn't have picked better choices for singles from this album. I wish "Goodnight Kiss" hadn beaten out Jerrod's "Drink To That All Night" for the Billboard #1, but oh well. I'm not particularly fond of "How Country Feels" but nearly all the other songs from the album are great, and I can understand why they went with HCF as the first single.
LAC should go at least top 10 and I can even see it doing better than "Goodnight Kiss" did. Since it's the 4th single it might not have quite as much momentum (despite following up 3 big hits) since the album has been out a while, but I can still see this doing well, even if it takes 30 weeks or so to peak. I think it will be a big seller--again, probably outdoing GK there--and I can see it getting all the way to #1, but if not I'll take another top 10.
If there's a 5th single from the album (at this point I doubt it, but you never know), I would like to see Stoney Creek release "Wherever Love Goes" with Randy listed as the lead artist. I think that song has "hit" written over it but it clearly wasn't going to do much marketed as a Kristy Lee Cook single featuring Randy. But for now I am ecstatic about the choice to release LAC.
It's crazy how Randy's career has gone. "Boots On" was huge (and I still hear it quite often) but his label at the time, Universal South, decided not to release a 3rd single from his debut. Then came "Whistlin' Dixie" which stalled just short of the top 30. Universal South merged with Show Dog and Randy's 3 singles for Show Dog-Universal peaked at #49, #53, and #54 respectively. Then he signs with Stoney Creek and scores a huge #1 hit, followed by an even bigger #1 hit, and then a solid #1 MB/#2 BB hit with "Goodnight Kiss".
That really shows how much Show Dog is struggling.

I am so excited to start hearing this on the radio. What a phenomenal song. Love the lyrics and the delivery. Hope this is a big hit. I probably should have picked up this album. I've liked all 4 singles.

This.
This is a good first step in getting back to real songs about real things. Amazing vocals, it is well written, well produced - Country(ier) Music.
This is not the change that I was talking about in another thread... that will be here soon. Very soon, and it will spell the end of Bro-Country.
But, this is a step in the right direction.
Great song.

Or hopefully somehow radio will start outlawing all such songs that have Girl, Roll in the song title/lyrics LOL. Wouldn't it be cool if a committee of people decided if a song got played on the radio or not? I hope you are right mus1cr0w

Great song. I don't know if it's going to do extremely well on the charts, but I won't ever change the radio when it comes on.

These vocals are so powerful and the writing is fantastic. Definitely one of my five favorite songs released so far this year. I really hope this becomes another big hit for Randy and possibly gets him some more CMA/ACM awards. He's definitely due at least a Song of the Year nomination for this amazing single.

Probably one of the top 5 songs released to radio in the last yeah and half and the only one on that top 5 that really has a chance of being a hit. Absolutely no reason this shouldn't be a number one on all charts. Maybe even a too 40 cross over hit as well. It's a song other musicians Can really relate too. Reminds me somewhat lyrically of Turn The Page by Bob Seger and What you gonna do with a cowboy by Chris Ledoux. Just the general theme of those songs. Really excited about this song and should put some country back in country radio.

Doesn't have a pop sound to get spins on Top 40 radio. It's a good throwback song though, I hope it can do well so we can get more songs like this.

This is a pretty powerful song that I think a lot of people will appreciate once they hear it. You're getting "top 40 cross-over" confused with the Hot 100, I think. GIAWGT did indeed peak at #43 on the Hot 100, but that doesn't mean it got any cross-over airplay (and it didn't...it got 0 cross-over airplay). The Hot 100 is compiled by all-genre airplay + sales + streaming. So since it did well with airplay at country radio, along with sales and streaming, it got to #43 on the Hot 100. It didn't get any airplay at any other formats, though. Very few country songs do. "Cruise" did, but that's been about it recently. And just to show how idiotic the new Billboard Hot Country Songs chart is, its methodology is the exact same as the Hot 100. All-genre airplay + sales + streaming. Should probably be country airplay only (+ sales and streaming, if they continue to insist on merging them all together into one big 'points' number).

Even though I wish Billboard had just one comprehensive Country Songs chart, I get why they split it into the Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs. If you look at the Hot Country Songs, it probably gives a more truthful indication about which songs are the most powerful. I follow both charts, and I'm more concern with the Airplay chart myself, but I rarely ever listen to the radio these days, I go straight to my iPod. The way I see it, the Hot Country Songs gives a better indication of what the fans really prefer or care for. That is why Follow Your Arrow could peak at #10 on the popularity chart, but only 43 on the Airplay. Personally, if you're an artist in today's world, isn't a #1 on the Hot Country Songs probably better for your career than a #1 on the Radio chart? It's certainly debatable. At least songs don't take 30 weeks to peak of reach #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

At least songs don't take 30 weeks to peak of reach #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. There are some positives about the HCS chart, but I find that it puts way too much emphasis on sales and streaming. Those are great numbers to track and all, but they take away from a chart that is supposed to be genre-based. The cross-over songs, the ones that don't fit into any one single genre, are always, always going to sell better and put up bigger streaming numbers than a straight-up country song. With sales and streaming, half the numbers could come from people who largely listen to pop radio but maybe like 2 or 3 country artists (likely Luke, FGL, Jason, etc) and don't care about or have any knowledge of any other country artists. So they'll go out and buy those 'country' songs but does that make them the biggest country hits? I personally don't think so. So for a genre chart, I just don't think it works to add cross-over appeal-influenced numbers (sales & streaming) in with genre-based radio airplay numbers. And mixing in airplay from Pop or Rock stations makes even less sense. The Hot 100 already ranks the biggest cross-over hits that started out only in country. I think implementing that methodology in with a genre-based chart only serves to erode the identity of that genre. I love following sales, both for singles and albums, but I think adding those numbers together with airplay makes little sense. I prefer to track them separately.

The video for this was shot this past week in Tucson, Arizona. From Country Aircheck Today (5/5): » Whatcha Gonna Do With A Cowboy: Stoney Creek's Randy Houser (second from left) visits KIIM/Tucson's (l-r) Shannon, Max and Porkchop while in town to shoot the video for "Like A Cowboy."

I heard this today on The Highway, and I must say that this sounds fantastic on the radio. The strong powerful vocals with the great chorus makes this a refreshing song to come through the speakers.
I really enjoyed "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" because of how catchy it was and the fact it was the perfect spring/summer release, but "Like A Cowboy" is right up there for my favorite Randy Houser song.

When this single was first announced, I thought that a top ten peak was on the optimistic, unlikely side. Now after repeated listens and becoming obsessed, I think this can be a surprise smash #1. I know it's not exactly what radio is playing today, but this song is just too good to be ignored. This will be the standout song of late summer/fall.
