When this single was first announced, I thought that a top ten peak was on the optimistic, unlikely side. Now after repeated listens and becoming obsessed, I think this can be a surprise smash #1. I know it's not exactly what radio is playing today, but this song is just too good to be ignored. This will be the standout song of late summer/fall. Agree 100%. Definitely my favorite single of the year and I imagine it will stay that way unless Aldean's album later this year has a knockout single (Aldean, Houser, and Chris Young are my three favorite artists today so I bounce back and forth on them lol). I think it's pure country, but still has enough of today's country elements to be radio-friendly. IMO it's Song of the Year this year.

Great song. I agree that this could be the best single release of the year. He nailed it live. Should be an easy #1.

This song is just incredible. I listened to it now and got goosebumps all up and down my arms when the chorus kicked in. Each single this era has gotten progressively better and this one was the first one yet that I've honestly just flat-out loved. What a great song vocally, sonically, lyrically, etc. Hopefully this will do as well at radio as the last three singles because it's by far the strongest song of the bunch, and I'm considering even checking out the album, mostly on the strength of this. That's impressive since I couldn't stand most of what I'd heard from him before this era, in particular his first big hit, "Boots On," which I thought was total garbage.

I knew you would love this one .indulgecountry, it just seemed like a song that would be right up your alley! I was surprised you hadn't commented on it yet I am loving this too, it's off to a pretty decent start and I really think this will be another big hit for Randy. I feel that these are the types of songs that country radio should embrace more--it's well-written and yet it's both contemporary and radio-friendly. I can't wait to watch this one climb the charts! :)

Looks like they went all out for this video. The trailer:
Looks absolutely incredible. I posted a while back when I saw on Randy's Facebook that they'd been in nearby Tucson filming the video. This is from Randy today:

^ Good God, that looks incredible. Looks like a full blown movie rather than a music video. I'm so glad that Stoney Creek decided to go all in on this video and put some obvious time and money into this thing cause it looks fantastic and I can't wait for next Saturday.
I know it's a fourth single but I'm hopeful this can get Randy back to at least the top 5 as I find this one of the best efforts put forth this year musically and vocally.

That video looks killer. Randy and Stoney Creek appear o really be doing his right. My only problem now is I leave for vacation that morning and may not be able to watch it when it first releases. This song has been the bright spot that has me keeping hope for traditional country themes to make their way back into today's country sooner (they will I know, it's just a matter of when). Randy is becoming one of, if not, my favorite artists today.

Yeah, the video looks promising. The song is great....dude has one of the best voices in country music today and it's really showcased in this song. And it also shows how to organically infuse "boots", "winding road", "hat", etc. into a country song.
Martina's probably slightly past her vocal peak but I would love to hear the two of them team up on a song.

Oh my gosh! A real love song in Country music with a cowboy theme? Is this 1990s Brooks and Dunn? No? It's 2014? This song is great!!! I just hope radio has the balls to play this, an authentic Country song George Strait himself would probably endorse!

I love the video! It actually has a Country story and horses, no half naked dancing girls, no partying on tailgates! This is actual real Country music in 2014! What a concept! Of course that means radio will ignore it if I had to place a bet on it.

It may not sell like his first two singles did but it will sell better than "Goodnight Kiss."

I disagree. Songs like I Drive Your Truck and Drink A Beer have been hits on the radio recently and I think will be multiple week number 1 hit. Randy has built enough momentum and I think that this could end up being his career song.

It's only up to 45 after 6 weeks on Billboard. I know Randy's songs have all been slow but steady risers, but this is the 4th single from the album now, and I think multiple weeks at #1 is a stretch. I'm rooting for it though, this song is terrific, and continues to grow on me each time I listen. He has such a powerful voice, and it has such a great throwback feel to it. I hope it starts passing the logjam that exists in the 30's soon.

I can't believe this isn't even Top 40 yet and it's already inescapable on the radio here. I'm hearing it A LOT, and I am very excited to see how this ends up doing in the long run because I feel it could wind up being a big hit. This is probably my favorite song out right now and I get so ecstatic every time it comes on the radio, even though the crappy speakers in my car are not able to do it justice with that epic production. It's just such an immaculate song. <3

Given Randy's past success I'm shocked that it's been this rough so far. But the 30-50 range on the chart right now is one of the most "crowded" and tough situations I've never seen since I've been watching charts. Alot of good songs have died, are dying, or are just having a really rough time taking off. So many "chosen ones" are releasing songs at the same time that are skipping ahead of the pack unfairly. I thought Randy (and Hunter) both were "chosen ones" too that would be moving up with great speed, but so far, not much. After all when was the last time a Cowboy song was a hit? I'm thinking years. I wish I had a radio station like yours Indulge, you comment all the time about them playing newer songs that so many corporate controlled radio stations won't allow til they hit top 20. I haven't turned on Charlotte radio in months. I absolute hate with a passion both WSOC and WKKT.

Well, it took me a while to get to this thread, because I'm not a fan of Randy Houser's voice, even though I appreciate his songs.
But this is great. Traditional, good vocals -great emotion (much better than his last two upbeat songs which didn't do much for me), hold your lighter up during it song. This would make a great soundtrack for a movie.

I hearing it here on my local radio station and I am lovin' it. I feel like this is 90's country all over again and I could not be more excited about it. I think Randy is one of the best on radio right now and has yet to disappoint me with his single choices. I hope this is HUGE!

Given Randy's past success I'm shocked that it's been this rough so far. Up until this week it was doing pretty good, though. And I still think this is going to turn out to be a really big hit...it's got a high sales per spin ratio already and that video is bound to draw more attention to the song. Randy is coming off 3 big hits but his status is still a non-headliner, and his album sales are under 200k, so this will be another slow climb. None of the numbers point to him being bigger than a 'mid-level' star. Plus he's much later in his album cycle than many other artists and unless you are Blake, Jason, Luke or FGL, it's tough to keep momentum going into the 4th or 5th release of an album even though again, Randy is following up 3 big hits. It looks to me as if this one just hasn't gotten too many adds or conversions this week but I do expect it to turn into a pretty big hit. Stoney Creek has been on a roll lately. I know I was hearing this a good bit when I was still in Phoenix a couple weeks ago.

But I agree on you're assessment of "Like A Cowboy". Randy is not a huge seller, and it's a fourth single with major competition on the chart right now. It's either going to be a hit by slow climb, or no hit at all, and I'm still optimistic on the former.

Well sure, but their 2 hits prior to that were quite the accomplishment for the label, considering that neither "If I Didn't Have You" nor "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About" sold all that well, and the album sales have been pretty dismal. Overall, Thompson Square has had much more success at radio than acts with similar numbers/momentum and I think that's a testament to Stoney Creek's success in promotion. TTW was the wrong single choice and after it got pulled, nothing else was gonna be able to revive their momentum for this album. With Randy I feel that they've made all the right single choices. I don't particularly enjoy the title track but it was a pretty safe song to go with first and it set the album up nicely. I knew the first time that I heard "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" that it was going to be a smash and it indeed became the biggest hit of his career. I might have released "Like A Cowboy" on the heels of that one (I think it would have started off even better following "Moonlight") and then sent out "Wherever Love Goes" as the 4th single, but "Goodnight Kiss" was obviously a solid radio-friendly track and a good single choice as well.

Oh I'm not saying Stoney Creek hasn't been doing great lately. In fact without T2's last two single attempts, I'd say Stoney Creek should be in the running for label of the past two years. They've done an amazing job with Thompson Square, Randy and Parmalee. It's just unfortunate that "Testing The Water" bombed so hard (though they could have just asked me and saved them the trouble as I feared that it would fail to catch on) but you're right, overall they've done great as a label and their promotion staff deserves every minute of vacation they can get, and hopefully they have. ;)

Really hoping this takes off in a big way soon. Kansas City seems to love it already, and I'm hearing it pretty much every time I listen to the radio, which makes me a very happy camper, lol. McCreerian yeah, the radio stations here are definitely quite good all things considered. I'm usually pretty happy with the music they play. Obviously it's not all good because they have to play the big hits too (and most of those lately are the ones I'm not too fond of), but there is good variety that I am thankful for! I don't often buy digital singles -- I'm old fashioned and still prefer to buy physical CDs -- but I might just have to get me this one.

Far too early to tell, but do we think we'll get a 5th single from How Country Feels? There's still quite a few good songs left on the album that would do well on radio.
Of course I'm hoping for many weeks at #1 for this song, so this would be a ways off in the future, just wondering if anyone has any predictions on what should be next.

I'm pretty sure this will be the last single from the album. This song is having another slow, long climb right now, and they won't want to risk losing any of the momentum Randy has gained this album cycle. Most non-A-list country stars never release more than 4 singles from an album. After this song peaks I expect them to wait a 2-3 months, and then come back with a new single for a new album.
