Was hoping this would get a better update this week (come on New York), but it's absolutely still in play.

This has been stuck in my head the past few days.
Not surprised to see this struggling on alternative because this is a straight up pop song to me.

Feel like this week's update is of significant importance. It *NEEDS* to get added by a New York station already.
And there isn't much competition this week. The key NYC stations have already added Hideaway, and the only other songs impacting are "We Are Done" and "All About That Bass."

Only 4 adds this week :(. It did get B96 and Hits 1, but it's hard to spin 4 adds as a positive
I'm really hoping the "high" part of the song isn't deterring stations; but I don't know what else it can be. I can't see hearing this song and NOT thinking it's a great pop song.

It's the "high" part, it has to be. It's definitely a pop song, we'll just have to wait and see, if people request it, not much radio can do but play it although I have a version with "high" edited out and it was just...bad.

Like I said before, the lyrics of the original version make it basically unplayable for pop radio. The remix is where it's going to be at if it has any hope at all on pop, and even the "stay high" lyric might give some PDs pause.

VH1 randomly edits the word "High" when they air the video yet keep everything else.

Why does Radio care about drug references There is a radio edit of Fancy that cuts out "give a" instead of just "fuck". Programmers are not going to play anything that is going to piss off their key demos.

The remix is where it's going to be at if it has any hope at all on pop, and even the "stay high" lyric might give some PDs pause. The remix repeats the one part that is likely causing the greatest reservations at radio.... The rest of the song feels on par with something like Ke$ha's Tik Tok. Edgy, but not anything uniquely inappropriate. -- Two things worth noting: - Its greatest # of impressions are coming from Hartford's 95.7. Hartford is definitely welcoming when it comes to new songs and politically liberal, but it's not SO much different than New York demographically. So I can't see something resonating there but freaking out people in New York (so this would be a decision made by higher-ups rather than regional PDs). -- KIIS, which was one of the first to add this song, is barely spinning this at all according to Mediabase. That would actually reflect a lack of requests/lack of audience interest - which is more concerning than speculation over whether the content is objectionable.

I hope to god they don't choose to air the remix, I like it, but the original is what NEEDS to smash.

Edgy, but not anything uniquely inappropriate. But why would a drug reference piss of their demo? I didn't think it would - I laughed when people told me I was wrong to pick this song as a breakout hit due to the drug content. But I'm grasping at straws trying to figure out why this isn't popping like crazy. Radio is very Euro-friendly right now and also very new artist-friendly. It also doesn't seem to have trouble latching onto something like Hideaway, which is from a similarly unknown, quirky female pop singer. And note that *ABC* censored Kacey Musgraves' use of the word "joint" during the CMAs in the fall. So there's still a mainstream reservation about marijuana. Contemporary slang and veiled references seem to get through, but Tove Lo is being very blunt about it getting "high" in this song.

Programmers are not going to play anything that is going to piss off their key demos. I guess the issue is whether the key demos for Top 40 see getting high as objectionable. I could see AC or Country audiences struggling with that line, but the people that listen to Z100 or 92.3 AMP? Really? But, to your point, I know at least one radio version of Fancy also edits out the word "retarded." And country singer Chase Rice can't even say "fine ass." So censors are still nuts.

Because people are oversensitive assholes who care too much about "political correctness" when in reality they're taking away something that isn't a big deal at all. It's the same reason why words are deemed "profane" in the first place. It's fucking conformity and sheep mentality.

In what might be a first since this song started to take off, the original is now beating the remix on iTunes. #96 vs. #98.
Still could really use a nice New York radio add next week (actually, I guess it is on 92.3 - I must have missed that in the weekly updates. Needs Z100 though).
