I chuckled a bit while listening to this. Its a sad state of affairs when Justin Moore is the "exceptional" singer in a trio of artists.

Yet it's stuff like this which dominates the airwaves and sounds like something someone would have written just for the heck of writing something which many of us could certainly do without in favor of a song of substance.

Wow listening to the album, I'd say Lights of my Hometown has to be a single eventually, that's the stand out song from this album. My Faith In You is also really good. Both are much better than Bottoms Up or this current single.

For all the people who view Brantley Gilbert as a terrible artist/songwriter, PLEASE listen to the album he released today, and get back with me.

For all the people who view Brantley Gilbert as a terrible artist/songwriter, PLEASE listen to the album he released today, and get back with me. Haven't got the album yet but from the preview, it sounds excellent for the most part. It annoys to no end that he records such brilliant material for album cuts and releases the average stuff to radio. On his last album he left "Halfway to Heaven" and "Savin' Amy" as albums tracks and released "Kick It In The Sticks".

For all the people who view Brantley Gilbert as a terrible artist/songwriter, PLEASE listen to the album he released today, and get back with me. I don't view Brantley as a horrible artist/songwriter, but his voice is near the bottom of the barrel currently in this genre. That's not to say that I dislike any singer who has a average to below average voice. If that was the case I wouldn't like Jamey Johnson, which I do. I just find his music to be to abrasive. The first two singles off this album are just plain bad to me. The vocals with the over production and cliche lyrics for "Small Town Throwdown" just don't cut it. I have enjoyed some of his songs like "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" and "One Hell Of An Amen", and to a lesser extent "Lights Of My Hometown". Perhaps he can win some more fans over if his single selections were better but most of his singles have been songs like "Kick It In The Sticks", "Bottoms Up" and this thing. To me he will always have a rock edge to his style of country and with his vocals, there's only so much of a fan I can be. But he needs to stop releasing stuff like his this to country radio or at least curb it a bit for me fully take notice of his capabilities.

HITS is predicting 170-190k in opening week sales for Brantley's album Just As I Am. Love him or hate him, those are great numbers.

Not shocking at all - might even be a little bit lower than I was expecting. I believe every pre-order went top ten, so this definitely felt like it was going to be more like Eric Church than Hunter Hayes.

I actually like every single song and see some great potential singles. Really like 17 again and Let it Ride. I've never really considered myself a fan of his but I've liked a lot of his songs. Decided to buy the CD and I'm really glad I did.

Scratch that last post of mine--new HITS update now has the album projected to sell 200-220k. Does anyone know if the album is up for streaming anywhere? Spotify or some other place online? If so we can make a Listening Party thread, to keep album-related discussion there and "Small Town Throwdown"-related discussion here. :)

Not sure if this works but it does have all the songs available for listen. Say what you will about "Bottoms Up" and "STT", but the rest of this album is top-notch imo. BG is a killer songwriter (couple Brian Davis credits too, he's an under-appreciated talent if you ask me).

Nothing amazing lyrically, but I think this song has a really good, catchy melody. It's really high-energy and gritty, which I think does a lot to make Brantley stand out from the bro-country pack. I have a Southern rocker side to me, so I like the Southern rock flavor that Brantley tends to have.

God, I hate this song. Brantley Gilbert and Thomas Rhett both sound terrible. The lyrics are kinda weird; talking about growing Daisy Dukes just makes me uncomfortable. This is such cliché-ridden garbage with mentions of tailgates, partying in the woods, and long tan legs throughout. The only positive is the instrumentation. The song has a decent rock vibe that's sort of catchy, but that's where the positives stop. I feel like "17 Again" or "Lights of my Hometown" would have worked better as a second single on both a critical and commercial level, especially with "Small Town Throwdown" coming after a similar song in "Bottoms Up".

He's toured this year with Thomas and Rhett's new single hasn't been sent to radio yet and Justin's is ending it's run. Plus it's a rocking upbeat summertime anthem type song that they were confident radio would eat up, and judging by the debut, they were right. Brantley was able to catch lightning in a bottle with "Bottoms Up" and that peaked in the spring time, and they felt they could get away with another type of song like that for this time of year. It also seems like the kind of song that will sell very well digitally which is now a deciding factor I'm sure. "Lights Of My Hometown" would be the leading candidate for single #3. I think you nailed why I don't enjoy this song as well. Brantley's vocals are awful. He's not among the best vocalists in the genre but he sounds extra anemic on this one, and Thomas doesn't sound much better. Justin probably sounds the best, but man when he sings that line "Round here we know how to grow 'em" it creeps me out. Plus the production is just a loud guitar driven mess IMO, and no catchy vibe will change that for me.

What is more exciting than to get three c-level country artists together for a song?

I agree with sabre14. What is more exciting than to get three c-level country artists together for a song? Except Brantley Gilbert is obviously not a C-level artist. His album debuted with 211,000...like him or not, that's A-list numbers. How many artists can do better than that? Not many. That's more than even Blake's most recent album sold in its first week. Eric, Jason, and Luke are the only male artists who have had bigger opening weeks of late. Miranda's album just debuted with about 180k sold--and that's huge for her--but it wasn't as much as Brantley's. I know Carrie and ZBB did well over 200k with their last albums too but I can't find any other recent 200k+ openers, so Brantley is in some pretty elite company here. This is only Brantley's 6th single (since signing with a major label) so the sample size is rather small, but he's got three #1's, another top 10, three platinum hits, and another Gold hit. And "Small Town Throwdown" should easily make the top 10 and will probably be another #1 for him, giving him four #1's in 6 tries, or 5 top 10's in 6 tries. Justin Moore is at least a B-list artist now...his singles climb quite slowly yet, but out of 9 singles he's had 6 top 10's including "Lettin' The Night Roll" which will soon become his 4th #1. Thomas Rhett might be too new to rank any higher than "C-list" but you have to admit he's on a roll, with back-to-back #1's, the first of which ("It Goes Like This") is the only song to ever top 50 million audience impressions at Billboard. The fact of the matter is that these 3 guys have all seen a huge surge in popularity over the last year and with them being label-mates, it makes sense to do this song. It's already at #21 after just 4 weeks. Anytime more than one artist comes together for a song, whether it's Brad and Carrie or Keith and Miranda, there's always a lot of excitement, typically more than there would be if the song in question was done as a solo recording rather than a duet or multi-person collaboration.

I was expecting this song to grow on me, but it just hasn't. It can't seem to make up its mind whether it wants to be a rock song or a country song. I find Thomas Rhett's part to be very short and awkward, Brantley is just kind of there and not leaving much of an impression, and even though I think Justin sounds good on it, I find it to be a little weird hearing a married man and father to be singing "We sure know how to grow them". The songs not terrible, but it leaves much to be desired, especially with the big names on this one.

After getting used to having the "king of bro-country" back on the radio now, I must say that this current single of his sounds more epic than it actually is. This "holier than thou" attitude I get from the lyrics is pretty disgusting and adding Justin's "we know how to grow our Daisy Dukes!" doesn't help matters much neither. I can obviously tell this'll be a #1 hit, but then again I don't listen to the radio much anymore so I may not be around once stations starting playing it at least once an hour.
P.S. I might listen to the iTunes previews of Just As I Am, just to see what this hype is all about.

The "we know how to grow em" line isn't really new though, Tim McGraw says something to the same tune on "Down on the Farm". Not excusing it, just not sure why everyone's so appalled when it's nothing new really.
