Sigh. This video is sad because it only perpetuates the stereotype that country music is only about drinking/partying, fighting, big trucks, and "daisy dukes". What an awkward video. "Lights of my Hometown" better be next to make up for this dud.

To be fair, I guess that's exactly what I should have expected from the video for a song titled "Small Town Throwdown", but man that was really bad. I really can't blame Brantley for having this song on his album because this is the kind of music he makes. I just wish this wasn't a single, though like I stated earlier in this thread, I understand why they went with this second, as it's a safe bet for the rest of the summertime for a hit, especially with two other BMLG artists lending vocal duties (slight chuckle for those last two words).

This does add to my notion that Brantley either eats steroids or wakes up with a dumbbell on his chest, his arms are jacked, especially compared to the other two. Video is nothing special, did have some funny parts in it though.

I like this song. I don't think a "bro" song like this implies to listeners that country music is ONLY about chucks trucks and beer. There are plenty "deep" and meaningful songs on Brantley's album and releasing a song like this and even Bottoms Up exposes him to a broader audience of everyday listeners. I don't blame BG for releasing the last two singles and I'm sure that he will follow them up with one of the other stellar tracks on the album.

I'm really hoping for 17 Again to follow this one up. I do like this one beacause it manages to showcase the three singers talent unlike The Only Way I Know.

As of like December, "I'm Gone" was the front runner for for the next single.

You know those songs that you don't like at first that you hear again and again and then eventually you start really enjoying it? This is that song. Brantley's had better songs, but at least this is catchy.

Sorry for the double post. I'm curious what others think - as far as recent country songs that feature a trio of singers, which do you prefer - this or "Thats the Only Way I know"? I'm suprised to say this because I like Eric, Jason, and Luke way more as artists than I do Brantley, Thomas or Justin - but I really have grown to enjoy this one way more than I did "TTOWIN"
I will admit I found the video amusing too (yes it was stereotypical, but amusing nonetheless)

Not a masterpiece but still mildly enjoyable. This on the other hand, is a turd.

That song had a lot of grit to it, and was a sort of anthem type song, was good for motivating. I think it also just sounded better too. "Small Town Throwdown" does nothing for me.

I prefer STT to TOWIK for the sole reason I feel Eric's part was a waste and it would've been better served to have it just be Aldean/Bryan or Aldean/Church. Song felt like it was giving Eric the short end of the stick in the amount of lyrics to sing.

Yes, that is one of the reasons behind my discontent with TOWIK was Eric's part - came too late in the song and it felt like an afterthought to me. I do think he nailed what little part he had in the song. Frankly Luke's part was not some of his better work, and I do like Luke's older songs. Jason sounded good, as always.

Personally, I think both songs are utter garbage. Both are completely generic lyrically, uninteresting vocally, and come across as very in genuine imo. I believe this song's existence is entirely based off "The Only Way I Know" coming before it, too. It seems like a very obvious re-tread to me.

I haven't liked this song at all, and I didn't care about TOWIK either.

The first 5 times I heard this song, I hated it. It clearly has worn me down.

TOWIK is marginally better than this, which isn't saying much - they're both station changers. This song, though, is one of my most-loathed of the year. Damn ear-bleeding loud mess.

I just saw the video for this song for the first time and wow, it's even more obnoxious than the song. I didn't think that was possible.

Honestly, I had a good chuckle out of the video. It's so corny and over the top that I found it hilarious. Still despise the song.

Wow. I thought this song was dead after that last 10 days. Guess they want that Top 10. It's probably already there (or close) on building chart. Tight between Chase, Miranda/Carrie.

Today's update on Mediabase seems unnaturally strong for "Small Town Throwdown" (up 105 spins and 574k audience impressions). I suspect either some radio stations have finally started to convert the single to heavier rotation or maybe a final push is going on, which would be a surprise to me because I still expected this Brantley Gilbert record to come pretty close to #1 even though it has had several bad weeks. Musical events seldom peak so "low" on the charts, and there's no reason why this record should be struggling as hard as it has as of late. I have read some speculation that the bigger market stations feel alienated by the "anti-city slicker" lines of the second verse. This could explain why Valory Music would feel it's a hopeless fight to keep the single treading water in the teens for many weeks, as stations that feel alienated by the lyrics wouldn't be likely to convert no matter how long the record label kept pushing.

I think the big update today is likely a combination of the label giving it a bit of a push, but also just some radio stations naturally moving this into top 10 rotation now that Dierks, Tim, and Brad have been shedding a lot of spins. I agree that this isn't all that close to being done, but it really has not been a very strong seller. All in all it just doesn't seem to be moving the needle that much--not a lot of buzz, sales, or strong listener reaction one way or the other. It seems to just be kind of "there" for a lot of people, radio PD's included.

I can guarantee that the only reason this song was released as a single is due to the inclusion of Moore and Rhett.

It's deifintely one of the three worst songs in the Mediabase top 40 alongside Burnt Rice and Jason Aldean right now; if they all went recurrent by the end of this week I'd be delirious.

Marv you make me laugh. I don't dislike this song as much as some of you, but I've heard better from Brantley. Lyrically it is pretty uneventful, but musically I find it to be tolerable. I watched the video and thought it was very amateur. Hoping next single is 17 Again, followed by MBG+R.

Hurry up and peak so we can get something like Lights of My Hometown. Also, the video for this is funny. Off topic but holy crap his arms are huge. It wows me every time the cmt video channel plays it. (Not the video, just his arms!)

Kat5Kind "Lights Of My Hometown": This is a spectacular song! :) That would be an excellent choice (even over "17 Again") I'll admit though that it is yet another case of borderline country (I am being nice to even call it country); and at the beginning it reminds me slightly of "My Hometown" by The Boss.
"Small Town Throwdown": It'd be great to see this crawl to #1, eventually, giving him his 4th number one single (wishful thinking) :). The current block of practically non-moving songs, i.e. songs not really taking off on the airplay chart is quite scary.
