Kat5Kind "Lights Of My Hometown": This is a spectacular song! :) That would be an excellent choice (even over "17 Again") I'll admit though that it is yet another case of borderline country (I am being nice to even call it country); and at the beginning it reminds me slightly of "My Hometown" by The Boss.
"Small Town Throwdown": It'd be great to see this crawl to #1, eventually, giving him his 4th number one single (wishful thinking) :). The current block of practically non-moving songs, i.e. songs not really taking off on the airplay chart is quite scary. It would give Justin Moore his fifth so I can put him on the list of those with the most #1s (he would be #123).

This one's had a decent chart run into the top ten, but it's not as big as I thought it would be. The song is at #27 on the iTunes Country chart, making it the lowest in the Airplay top 10.
This will almost certainly make the top 5, but I'm not sure about its #1 prospects. Big songs like "Somethin' Bad", "Leave The Night On", and "Neon Light" might pass this soon if STT doesn't pick up its pace. I just don't think there's much buzz about this song. I only think I've heard it on the radio once, and it feels like it has been overshadowed by some "hotter" releases even though it has had a relatively smooth chart run.

I don't know that I would use the phrase "relatively smooth" to describe this one's chart run. STT has had many slow weeks where it was bouncing around in the 11-15 range. "Somethin' Bad" has been moving slowly as well, but at least that one has had pretty good sales. Here's the Billboard chart run for STT so far: 38-26-22-21-21-21-18-16-15-15-14-14-14-11-13-12-12-10 07/12: +645k (#18) 07/19: +1.310 million (#16) 07/26: +661k (#15) 08/02: +1.518 mil (#15) 08/09: +750k (#14) 08/16: -435k (#14) 08/23: +105k (#14) 08/30: +1.160 mil (#11) 09/06: +667k (#13) 09/13: +585k (#12) 09/20: +1.451 mil (#12) 09/27: +878k (#10) I could've gone back farther, but this one has been a pretty slow mover for the bulk of its chart run. I mean, it seems like "Roller Coaster" and a couple other recent big hits were gaining an average of 500-700k per day for weeks at a time, and Brantley has struggled to do that in a week. STT has basically just been slipping through the cracks, only moving up in small amounts and when other songs go recurrent. It was just bad timing for this one's release. It was released weeks before "Somethin' Bad", "Bartender", "Roller Coaster", "Dirt", "American Kids", "Burnin' It Down", "Leave The Night On", and "Neon Light", and just a few weeks behind such songs as "Drunk On A Plane", "Meanwhile Back At Mama's", and 'River Bank". Brantley and Valory were forced to go the slow route, though, when they realized this wasn't going to be able to compete with any of those other songs. I do agree with you, zjames, in that this will probably be at least a top 5 if not a #1, but only because the label has managed to keep it going upward at a relatively slow rate (and I suppose that's a good job on their part, given the fairly positive outlook here). There is still some competition (Miranda/Carrie, Blake, Sam Hunt, and Frankie Ballard), but not nearly the amount of brand new big name releases that they were dealing with a month or two ago. So, bad timing for the release of this, but the slower chart climb has resulted in this one hitting the top 10 now when the competition is less. STT has a very low sales per spin ratio, but I think it has a shot at #1 nonetheless.

I'm really surprised on how well this track is doing albeit its rough and tough; and genre-defying sound. KUPL Portland, OR gave it 83 spins last week (One down from the week before!). How weird is that! Impressive, really, with a fairly dislike quote of 14.8% on Callout America. Would love to see this to go all the way. :)

I caught the end-part of an interview NASH FM (Blair Garner) did with BG this morning. Brantley was busy shooting a squirrel on his porch. At the end of the interview, Garner mentioned "One Hell Of An Amen". That said, I am wondering if "One Hell Of An Amen" is his next single. That would be a good choice, but I'm hoping for "Lights of my Hometown", I think that could be a big song for him. I'm expecting either that or "17 Again" to be the next single.

I would be so pumped if OHOAA was the next single, though I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't "Lights of my Hometown".

Brian Davis (the co-writer) confirmed as much in a pr piece about his next EP coming out. Davis DID co-write "Lights" too but they specifically mentioned "Amen" in the PR.

This song has absolutely collapsed. It's lost nearly 7.5 million in audience in just the last 3 days alone, so it'll definitely go recurrent on Monday's Billboard chart, where its peak position was #8.

Probably a good indication of how hard they had to work just to get that song to peak that high. I don't think anyone was really crazy for this song in the end aside from some of Brantley's biggest fans.

I'm not really surprised at all that it's freefalling now that it's starting to drop.

I'm not sure this collapsed, which to me implies that the label was still pushing when it started to fall. Brantley Gilbert co-hosted Lon Helton's countdown the weekend of October 18-19, which is usually indicative of a final push the following week. To me, this seemed like last week was the final push for "Small Town Throwdown" and Valory officially pulled the single Sunday. I guess it's a trivial argument, though. All that really matters is that "Throwdown" was pushed for several weeks past its natural peak week and is now free-falling. The run has been quite similar to "More Than Miles" minus the many weeks slugging through the 30's and 20's.

Collapsing, to me, is when a song lingers on the chart past its welcome, and then just totally collapses. And I think that applies here--this one lost over 400 spins and more than 3.1 mil in audience in today's update alone. I can't recall any other song in recent memory losing that much in a single day.

Thankfully the wholesale collapse of this tune as well as 'Dirt', 'Ready Set Roll' and 'Roller Coaster' means that the top ten will be substantially better within the next 3-4 weeks or so, as songs with actual melodies and engaging lyrics continue to rise.

It has been a while since that one, though, and GIAWGT also had a huge final week push to #1 which resulted in such a sharp drop. "Small Town Throwdown" didn't see nearly the gains that GIAWGT saw in its final bulleted weeks.

Ha I guess it's all relative because I think Roller Coaster is a song of the year candidate, and I think Dirt was a pretty solid effort too. Roller Coaster is one of the top songs to sing along to this year IMO.

'Dirt' is easily FGL's best single to date which I guess isn't saying a heck of a lot, but Tyler's voice is of the fingernails-against-the-chalkboard type which makes me really queasy.
The format remains inundated with a lot of male vocalists whom I just can't stand and who constantly revisit a very narrow range of subjects like many Taylor Swift singles, although I certainly have no problem whatsoever with gentlemen with very distinctive voices ranging from John Conlee to Charley Pride to Dwight Yoakam to Tracy Lawrence just to name a few.
Kiefer Thompson's voice is certainly as distinctive as anybody's past or present, but it's also a very tolerable one IMHO.
At least some recent singles by these 'bro-country' folks from earlier this year have commenced losing spins at very rapid rates like everybody else's, although the recurrent charts at both trades are still clogged with them, but it's a start anyway.
Thank goodness for John Dickey of Cumulus Radio; his collaboration with Scott Borchetta in collaborating with the launching and growing of the sensational and supremely LISTENABLE 'NASH-Icon' brand is a godsend for those of us who cherish the late eighties-early nineties time period which launched a ton of format superstars who've essentially disappeared solely because of their age except for Kenny & Tim under this 'bro-country' deluge, and I expect it to do very well for years to come.
