From the lyrics this reminds me of, "It Ain't Pretty," from the Golden album, but instead of sulking at the bar, Hilary is living it up.

I'm pretty meh on the song after reading the lyrics, but hopefully the melody and production will be interesting.

I really like what I hear from that sample. It definitely sounds very Pop-ish, but it's very catchy. I can see this getting stuck in my head for a few days. While I like the new direction their heading, I hope they don't completely abandon the slower style songs and ballads, because they've had some really good ones in the past. I nice mix of upbeat and slow would really do them well in my opinion.

Wow, nice snippet. I'm one of those who like sing-songy lyrics and this really seems to fit the bill. Looking forward to it :)

Interesting description, it sounds promising. Sounds like they wanted to do a complete makeover with a new producer, which can lead to great results sometimes. I wonder if they picked a single with Hillary on lead because those tend to sell well for them. In any case, I loved the spark from their earlier singles; it'd be nice to hear that in this new music. It's just a well-written, nicely performed song. It has more of an 80s pop/rock feel to it but also has interesting moments in it. Like "Compass," it's something fresh and different for them and after getting a little too one-note with the power ballads and trying to replicate "Need You Now," they've done well to work with fresh producers who challenge them as artists.

I like this. Refreshing sound and Hillary sounds really nice here.
I hated "Compass" because the production was so overbearing, but this stays in that territory without becoming too cluttered.
I could see this doing much better at radio/digitally than their recent singles, too.

"Bartender" and "Compass" have the same feel, but I would agree with them that this song is darker. I like it. I wasn't totally intrigued by it, but it's pleasant and I'm looking forward to the rest of the album. The last era certainly wasn't handled the way I would've hoped, but they have been providing us with a lot of music lately and I don't want to complain about that.

I like this so much more than "Compass", or anything on "Golden" actually (with the one exception of "It Ain't Pretty)! Not in love with the rock influences, but it's great lyrically (chorus is fantastic), so I'm sure it will grow on me.

They were just announced as performers for the American Idol finale next Wednesday, so this'll probably be debuted.

From their site: Lady Antebellum serves up the television debut of their new single “Bartender” on Wednesday’s American Idol finale. The band will join John Legend, Aloe Blacc, KISS, Demi Lovato, Jason Mraz, and more in crowning Caleb Johnson or Jena Irene as the newest American Idol. Tune in on Wednesday, May 21 to see the performance and the winner crowned.

Wow. This is exactly what "Downtown" should've been, and their best lead single since "Need You Now."

I really like this song, and I'm so not a Lady A fan. I heard it on the radio and was impressed. Just bought it.

Not bad but it angers me to no end when they do songs of only her singing. They sound best when her and Charles get equal singing time. Thus why I'll like Gloriana much more always.

If you look at sales history and chart history on singles where one sings lead over the other, Hillary's have always done better. And I know it isn't a popular opinion but prefer her lead singles over his.

I love this. I really enjoyed Golden, but this feels so much more instant than anything on that.

And it goes for all band singles, actually. If you're a band, and marketing yourself as a band, you all need to share equal singing parts on released songs. Lady A has found what works though.

While this is true, a large part of the reason that the Hillary-led singles sell better is because they seem to be the lead singles. She sang lead on "Need You Now", "Just A Kiss", and "Downtown", and those naturally sold better because they were brand new, lead singles from their respective albums. Other than their debut single "Love Don't Live Here", Charles hasn't sang lead on a lead single.

It's a nice enough POP song. However, there's not even a real attempt to make it sound country. I think "country" is about dead (or already is). Kind of sad and I'm not even a big country fan but this generic pop/rock music on the country format has now about rooted out all traditional country. Well, on to the future I guess....

I like this song, but there were a few remaining album cuts from Golden that I like better, and would have preferred one of them to have been released over this.
It'll be really interesting to see how this ends up doing. It's off to a decent start, entering the chart at #43 tonight. It's notable, to me at least, that it entered much lower than Brantley Gilbert's second single, but that features other artists, and I imagine had some sort of radio deal. I think this song and album are very important in determining where Lady A's career goes from here.

I seriously doubt that anyone should have remotely expected this scintillating song to barrel onto the charts as a ton of 'bro-country' bundles of bombast tunes, including Brantley's latest (600+ spins out of the gate) have been doing ad nauseam for the past couple of year Given the staggering musical overhaul at country radio over the past 24 months as both Lon Helton and Sean Ross have pointed out, and especially Helton's discussion in tonight's edition of Country Aircheck alongside the unprecedented changes on the 'Power Gold Top 100 chart' in tonight's edition, 'bro-country' is the current 'flavor of the month' these days at country radio--it would appear that you either like or can't stand it.
Hopefully the collaboration between Scott Borchetta and the folks @ Cumulus Radio will be a fruitful one, since the format could really use a blast of listenable and intelligent product, and if that means a splintering of country radio much as the overindulgence of vulgar rap music caused top 40 radio to self-destruct, with plenty of help from the 'country boom' of the late eighties led by Billboard's top three new singles artists of 1989 composed of Clint Black, Garth Brooks & Lorrie Morgan.
Anyway, 'Bartender' is going to be an absolute smash; it's extremely listenable, it actually tells a story in an easygoing pace without overwhelming and demolishing your eardrums, and will certainly go down as another great snapshot of life in a local watering hole, whether the tune is a snappy and frisky one ('Felt Good On My Lips') to a soul searching and downright brooding tale ( the instant classic 'Last Call'), or something in between, and certainly substantially more enjoyable for me than a huge percentage of the songs out there, and especially in the top ten right now.
