and I also hope the album isn't one long plea to Paula because if GHB is any indication, it will get old and fast. Well, good luck with that now!

So, they're really releasing this album in 3 weeks?

It's looking like it's going to be the opposite of BL.

It's looking like it's going to be the opposite of BL. Which means another Love After War bomb.

I think it's a good idea for him to revert back to his older sound and not record/release a bunch of "Blurred Lines" clones, but this album should not be coming out in less than 3 weeks. I wonder if his contract is up at Interscope or something...
His career trajectory has always been fascinating to me because of how it yo-yos. He goes from, like, extreme highs, to low lows.

Hopefully it's more The Evolution of Robin Thicke and less Love After War. Both dedicated to her but one had way more oomph.

I loved the bossa nova style at first, but at this point, I'm totally worn out on it from him. It's like he has dozens of interchangeable songs.

Even if he ends up back together with Paula, this will remain completely pathetic and honestly kind of scary.

Hmmm.... I guess as usual, my stance on things are the opposite. I'm hoping he goes back to HIS style of music and stop chasing the charts. If this album brings him back to Earth then bring on the Keith Sweat begging. His begging for forgiveness has got to have some BITE instead of the usual love and sex these men do. I have all his albums except Blurred Lines not because I thought it sucked but because after the huge single, I simply lost interest.
My complaint is that I hope these are fully realized songs because Get Her Back sounds incomplete to me and it meanders as if he got bored himself midway during creation.

^^^ I agree. I understand he gained new fans due to the hype of BL but I wonder how many of those fans even knew he existed before then? Also contrary to popular belief I LOVED "Love & War" better than that crap he put out last year attempting to appeal to the masses and "Mission" alone distroys everything on that album. I hope he's able to capture the magic he had on Something Else and Sex Therapy cuz those were stellar albums.

From the moment BL smashed, I was hoping he wouldn't try to recreate it or chase more obvious pop hits on his next album since I, too, prefer his soulful style the most. However, I also didn't want another album full of stripped down, interchangeable ballads that fail to stick out from his catalog and do little to resonate with his audience, both old and new; that was the main problem and contributing factor to the failure of LAW - the material wasn't bad but it was nothing we hadn't already heard from him repeatedly.
He had a whole new audience to his music captive and I was hoping his next album would show them his natural artistry at its best. If this was TEORT Pt. II that he was about to release (as in an extension, not a retread), I'd be more than supportive. For people not familiar with his back catalog, however, I feel Paula may end up sounding like one long (read: boring) R&B apology coming from a guy who publicly turned into a douche after he became a Pop star (and I say that from several people that have made comments about GHB to me and had no real knowledge of his music outside of LWY and BL).

I'll take some funk-like tracks like "Ain't No Hat 4 That" on this. But hopefully he goes back to his old style, Blurred Lines was pretty bad. Except for like 2 songs.

i liked BL (the album) a lot. i don't find the album to be that out of step with his discography as a whole; it commercialized his sound without taking him too far away from it, and i was ok with that. i generally like or love most of his back catalogue too, though, so a return to form would also not get any complaints from me. i just think it's unfortunate that no matter what he released next, the view of it was going to be 'tainted' in a sense by his post-BL implosion - like what Shooter said, people will look at this as some long, overly done apology after letting pop stardom go to his head, but if he attempted more commercial material** people would probably have turned their noses up at it. frankly, i don't think pop stardom did anything except exacerbate some issues that were already there.
**by commercial material i am talking about the upbeat stuff. there's no reason why he couldn't release an All of Me or (another) Lost Without You type of song that could be huge for him. Got to Get Her Back just isn't that song.

If he could pull an All of Me type track out of himself at this point, then I'd be impressed.

Then again, it seems like "Get Her Back" may not really get pushed outside of Urban AC anyway-- so I'm curious to see what his follow-up sounds like.

I'm going to check out Blurred Lines so I can get a better understanding of the situation. He's never been the best with single selection so maybe it isn't a more commercialized version of Sex Therapy as I have assumed. I feel like him naming his album Paula is a testament to the undercurrent of all his albums that Paula is his muse. I don't expect it to be all begging but moreso an expose on the marital issues they may have had and why he's to blame. He's competent enough to use all this publicity and spin it in his favor. I just hope that he does. Those last few songs on Evolution showcase the BITE that I'm really expecting out of this. Maybe I'm being too optimistic and ambitious but this could be his "Share My World".
Love After War wasn't bad at all... just bloated and boring/corny at times. A lot of great material lost in a sea of filler that just needed someone to fish them out with a better presentation. I loved his Whitney tribute but he's been covering that song since Evolution.

None of this really bothers me. He's made his career writing romantic R&B music, about love, sex, etc. Paula has been his muse on several albums, something he's never hidden. Of course their split is going to effect his music. I don't understand what's so funny or disastrous about this album being called Paula or it being about their marital issues. It's consistent with his past work.
HOWEVER, the roll out is a sloppy mess and this album is looking like a flop out of the gate. Also, he needs to be more careful with how he presents himself. He doesn't need to come off looking like a sad-sack stage five clinger.

So I checked out Blurred Lines (Deluxe) on my good sis Youtube and I'm pleasantly surprised. Its not merely as pedestrian as I assumed. Its really just an urban dance album with heavy borrowing from the late 70's and 80's without being pastiche. It gives me Hall&Oates meets Jamiroquai with a little Sylvester thrown in for kicks and giggles. I really love Ooh La La, the Kendrick collabo and Ain't No Hat 4 That. There's one more towards the end but the title escapes me from first listen. The worst songs are actually 4 The Rest Of My Life and the Timbaland song (Robin is the wrong artist for it). Nothing veers too far from Wanna Love You Girl and Magic which are some of his best uptempos in the past. He could definitely incorporate that into his new album.
His best album cover since the Bush administration. I think I'm going to enjoy tracks 6-12, those titles seem promising.

I'm curious how hard Interscope is going to promote this.
In other news, he told Steve Harvey that he wrote the entire album in about a week.
